No, the rule has always been you fill out the full roster during the draft and do the direct replacement at the end. Sorry

This process feels more torturous this year than normal. I've agonized over my last 4 picks and all of those(except the one I just made) the other person I was considering went the very next pick.

I don't think we started earlier than usual but there feels like there's way more things in doubt

I agree. I feel it's partially because we just had a WJC and that has altered some of the timing we're used to. Also, Elite Prospects is now only posting full rosters. They used to list everyone in camp and then just eliminate guys as cuts were made. This is making things an awful lot harder to research.

No Russia makes the player pool shallower as well, though we had that same issue this summer.
