Heading to Barbados in 4 days... first time ever in the Caribbean. Can't wait.

If anyone has been before let me know what were any cant misses... aside from the beaches and the rum!

Was on a cruise back in 2005 that stopped at Barbados for the day. We went to some indoor shopping market thing and then went to what I'm fairly certain is this exact place: The Boatyard Beach Club I was 19 at the time and didn't really like anything about the cruise or any of the places we stopped, except that Boatyard Beach Club. It is legit just a beach, some fun water things, and a restaurant bar thing. Those type of places exist all over the place now so it isn't too unique, but that is all I want out of a day in the Caribbean.

We had stayed at an all inclusive resort in Jamaica the year before and I didn't leave that resort once. My parents and sister would go out to Dunes River Falls and some of the other "excursions", but that ain't my bag. Give me some great weather, a beach, a chair, and someone bringing me food and drinks all day.

I've been trying to track down ADA/Handicap accessible playgrounds for my son here in Delaware. There is like no equipment or anything for him to use outside of the oversized swing chair that still requires him to be lifted into to enjoy. I've emailed/contacted State Senators, Parks Department, County officials etc...nothing. They mentioned parks that are being redone, but when they parks get redone they dont even have anything outside of the swing.

I recently saw two articles printed about parks being redone and they big push to add 8 pickleball courts on a multi million dollar investment...repaving basketball courts etc... I emailed the county about that asking if they could cut the damn pickleball courts down to maybe 6?! i mean do we really have 8 seperate pickleball games going on at the same time in the same county parks? what a waste of money.

I forwarded them links to playground equipment made for community playgrounds that is inclusive and would allow for a kid in a wheelchair to participate and play. There's a company called Miracle Playground equipment that has a ton of options..i sent the state/county the brochure...nothing.

Then i see they announce that our State Capital Playground in Dover (2 hours away) was redone and they are touting how it is ADA accessible, has handicap accessible features etc... I saw pictures of the playground, and there was nothing different then any other playground. No features that appear accessible...i emailed the person on the press release and here's the response i received:

"Mr. Danko, thanks for contacting us about the ADA compliancy of the Capital Park Playground. Although this playground is not an all-inclusive playground it does offer ADA compliancy with components. The engineered wood fiber fall surface is ADA compliant. The entry component is a transition station that allows kids to transition from a wheelchair to the lower deck and transition from there to the remainder of the play unit."

Wow you have a flat surface instead of mulch...that doesnt mean that kids in wheelchairs can play or participate...just means they can roll around on the flat ground while the other kids play.

Some straight up bullshit and false advertisement

We have a parent in my school district with a very similar situation. Apparently we put one of the swings you had mentioned at his kid's school, but he can't even use it so he just watches other kids play on it.

I'm not sure where the situation is right now, but apparently he was actively working with our school board members on a "redesign playgrounds" committee of some sort. They had gotten into pricing everything out, but we have 10 elementary school playgrounds that would need to be done. Since they couldn't afford all 10, they did nothing. Once again letting perfect be the enemy of good.

That’s bs. I never realized it but you’re right, other than the one swing, there’s no option. Take the letter you received to the news. That might get you some traction.

I want to be very clear that if any of you had @‘ed me and assumed that I knew what those dumbass zoomer terms @kudymen posted meant, I would have blocked you.

Can’t imagine anything more insulting than that.
You’ll have your own slang when you reach that age
