Non-human biologic?
Better than non-human botanical.

This just felt off to me, so I went to do some research because I love libraries and books.

It turns out this is old provincial governmental policy being poorly written and implemented. The reason the cutoff is 2008 is because books are re-evaluated after 15 years. You have topics such as computers, sports, and other of the time material that needs to be culled for relevancy reasons. This is why the shelves were empty, as all of those books had to be pulled for the review. As part of this process, because mistakes happen on operations of this scale, exactly one copy of The Diary of Anne Frank and The Very Hungry Caterpillar were removed. Not all of them. And they were returned when the mistake was noticed.

As always, the story in the headline is half the story at best and leads you down ridiculous roads.

*Edit* The "you" here is not specifically you. I should have said "us" instead.
Books are cool and all, but did you see those mummified alien corpses?!
