Imagine having players of McDavid and Draisaitl stature on this team....

What impressed me about Edmonton, is they played with an urgency and they are always attacking. They didn't mope at 4-1. I don't think they are good enough to win in the playoffs but they are pure excitement. Who knows, maybe their offense is good enough... They can be the STL Rams... the greatest show on turf
I saw the same thing. All they needed was a power play, and they got themselves going. Oilers will never be out of a game this year with an offense like that.

I was actually sitting there impressed with McDavid circling at the blueline.... thinking, 'damn he's agile and quick'... then he tore it up.

Sometimes you just have to tip your hat. It's Conor McDavid. It never should have gotten to 5-4. We allowed them back into the game and he showed us why he's the greatest talent to play hockey in history. NO ONE can do what he did.
Yeah I mean there’s nothing you can really do about that. 1 on 4 you should be able to stop even him but he was so ridiculous in that play you do have to just tip your cap.

And if we lost 1-0 on that goal I’d have no problem. The fact that it was a goal to tie the game at 5 after our goalie gave up at least 3 other stoppable goals is infuriating.

I hope us having a tough schedule to start the season is the reason this team is struggling so much. I can understand getting pinned in our own zone by the Oilers top line but they got walked by everyone that entire third period. The top two lines still can't maintain offensive zone pressure or create anything unless it's off the rush and the second line is consistently the worst line game after game. Kakko has zero points and rarely ever gets the puck passed to him and somehow he's still on the same line. The only improvement from last season is Shesterkin allowing us to find ways to sneak in horrendous looking wins. I love that but it seems to have masked the problem that the rangers have had only one good game so far this entire season. I have to think the team picked a date on the calendar to give the players time to mesh and I thank Shesterkin for the points he's given us so far, but we're getting closer and closer to that date. After tonight we have a favorable travel schedule and the top two lines are going to have start showing signs of Gallant hockey if they plan to stay together.

I mean...all of the players on the ice just relaxed once the puck went out of the zone, Rooney tried to go for a change and didn't even realize McDavid had the puck and was about to attack. Everyone said "phew the puck's out" and sat back and gave him the opening to do what he did

It was an amazing play but I'm furious at the Rangers for giving him that opening. It's inexcusable, that entire game after going up 4-1 was inexcusable. No attempt to make plays or manage the puck. Just slap at it, swat at it, ice the puck instead of passing to a teammate, no attempt to put pressure on or keep possession, just terrible inexcusable hockey from a supposed NHL team. It was f***ing embarrassing.

I'm usually trying to be patient with the team and realize it's a process but games like this just make me mad and question why the f*** these players can't do what 90% of other teams in the NHL do and why we're paying Panarin $11 mill per year to lose puck battles and constantly turn the puck over and why the highest picks this team has had ever both look like busts and can't play with anyone on the team

At this point, Kakko is always the 1st forward back on defense. He's the 'Center' of that line in a traditional sense. How about we put someone else on that wing with limited offensive capabilities? Goodrow or even Hunt would work.

Panarin and Strome go East West ALL DAY unless Kakko is on the other side of the ice... then... 'it's too risky'.

OR

we break up Strome and Panarin. It's not working.... and I'd put Kreider back on the right where he's scoring off the rush with his snap shot and speed.

Panarin Zibs Kreider
Blais Strome Kakko
Laffy Chytil Goodrow
Hunt Rooney Reaves

on the plus side I do think Zibanejad has been looking better and him and Kreider are decent, I'd still give Kakko a shot on that line though and stick Goodrow with Panarin for now

I was actually sitting there impressed with McDavid circling at the blueline.... thinking, 'damn he's agile and quick'... 'he looks faster than our team just skating in a circle'... then I was happy and sad at the same time.

'stick check'. I dont think people realize how good McDavid is. 'Just hit him'. He's faster and more agile and does things with the puck never seen before. There's physical limitations. This isn't a video game. He's just better than you. If you attempt to initiate contact he could go right around you. There's no 'right' option. We could have grabbed him and threw him to the ice... that was always an option

I have no problem with gallant there. His point more or less is that this kid barely played, did fine, and he's getting singled out. The focus is disproportionately on these kids compared to the minutes they play and their roles on the team.

McDavid is a generational talent so a lot of that is luck not only to win the lottery but in a year when a special player of his caliber comes along. I still think our fans need to be a bit patient with Laf and Kakko and not get all bent out of shape because they aren’t setting the world in fire right away

Thing is. No one tried to hit him. Better to try and fail than never try at all.

I guess things even out in the end, as the saying goes...we stole points in Ottawa & Toronto, but dropped points these last 2 games.

I like our record (6-2-3) especially having played almost 3/4 of them on the road, although not many divisional games (2). So I'll take those points and be happy, especially since many our top players have been very average at best, so far

What annoys me though is I don't understand the strategy to get Laf & Kakko going? I understand and agree that they need to play better, no denying that, but you can tell their confidence is so low right now, that it seems like they will never succeed playing this way.
Coaching is a big part of a player's development, especially young, highly touted draft picks, and how they're used.
I won't get into how other, previous first and second OA guys get tons of playing time, PP time, OT usage, etc...I'm looking at putting these guys in positions to succeed.
Why is Kakko playing on a line with Panarin and Strome who like to dangle and play an east/west game and pass to one another all the time?
Why is Laf playing on a fourth line, who's job is to make sure they don't get scored on, by dumping pucks out and just wasting time, never mind creating offense? Explain why after playing barely 9 minutes, he's out therc in OT, against McD & Drai? Maybe it's me, but that's not a position to succeed!

Georgiev...wow! He was a sound ,technical goalie when he started with us, but now he's just a mess positionally. On top of that, he's not very mentally strong either...bad combination for an NHL goalie...

I get it. Looking back, it's a lot easier to say 'I should have done this'.

In reality, you get somewhat stunlocked because you never experienced what just took place. This wasn't Chytil trying to dangle... It happened at lightspeed against our 2 'least agile' defensemen

That statement had nothing to do with Laf or Kakko.

but I still have hope Laf can turn into a Draisaitl type player.

P.S. Shesterkin is our Draisaitl or McDavid. He is pivotal piece to our success. It's unfortunate he can't start 82 games, but HE WILL play every game in the playoffs..... when it matters.
