Eggs, good pretty much any way they're prepared, assuming they are prepared well. Anyone in the Montgomery/Berks/Lancaster County area in PA who's never been to Shady Maple for breakfast, you need to go. I like scrambled eggs, but never thought, "Wow, these are some damn good scrambled eggs!" until I had them there. Ketchup on scrambled eggs is fine. Ketchup on breakfast sausage is wrong. Use syrup, it's right there.

Ketchup on a cheesesteak is fine once in a blue moon. Fried onions with Cooper sharp is the gold standard, and for Christ's sake people, season your beef. If that means you have to actually ask for salt and pepper when you order from your regular spot, do it. Your welcome.

As mentioned, the roll is imperative for a good cheesesteak, or any sandwich (maybe even hot dogs?) for that matter. There is legend around here (might be true, I never looked into it) that conditions around Philly like altitude and water content, make for the perfect roll. True or not, it underscores the importance of a good roll. Last cheesesteak take, I love a good cheesesteak hoagie.

I haven't watched his videos in a while, but I paid for his site at one point. Love his philosophy. He made a comment once about cheap disposable products and how we are cheapening our own lives, or something like that. Definitely resonated with me. And yes, he could save time, but that's not the goal.
It’s not so much I have an issue with his use of tools or him himself. It’s craftsman like him that will see this video, make what he’s making and then go and charge $600 for what is essentially a plain wooden box that might be able to hold a few pieces of mail. . It’s handcrafted and artisanal!
I know he’s in it for the craft and the box was an example of his work. I completely get that.

The box can also hold eggs

Longhots. I’m sure you don’t have them amongst your multitude of peppers.
Longhots can range between 1000 SCO and 20,000 SCO. It’s all completely random. Use a pepper in that range that’s not overpowering in taste.

I have Cayenne in that range, but they have a sweet taste, which I, frankly, only like when put in tea. Then there's Brazilian Starfish (~15-20k SHU), but then I'll have to make separate Cheesesteaks for me and others, haha. [Heat tolerance among my family is in negative values].

Maybe...I was there in 2012 so it may have changed a bit.

I stayed near Sendlinger Tor. We were a 5 min walk north to Marienplatz.

It was fun, at that time, I had recently graduated from college. I had taken 4 semesters of German, and it was put to the test. It doesn't help that they speak a ridiculous dialect, not what I learned at school. My grandmom came from Germany, so I met up with some of my relatives there, too.

We were also near Sendlingen Tor [3 min walk]. Not saying it was not fun; I was mainly there for half-marathon anyway, not scenery or vibes; just sharing my observations :)

As a media buff, I'm often apprised of what some of the better newscasters are doing in various cities.

One of them is Jim Gardner.

I had seen clips of him before and loved his demeanor and delivery -- he's the type of understated pro who sounds authoritative no matter what story he's delivering.

Dec. 21st was his final broadcast after so many years on the job, as some of you who follow mainstream media are all too well aware. A friend sent me a video of it.

From the police escorting Gardner to work, to the viewer tailagate greeting him, taking photos with him and him spending time with the crowd, to colleagues offering their best wishes during the newscast at different junctures, to finally him talking directly into the camera and delivering a goodbye message that was both professional and emotional at the same time -- what a classy way to close the books on a great career.

I doubt the next anchor will have anything close to Gardner's impact with most now getting their news from different platforms that don't even involve a newscaster. End of an era, I guess. Good luck to him.

Jim Gardner was indeed an institution, even more so than the venerable Larry Kane and Big Al Meltzer. The one indelible memory I have of him was the broadcast immediately following the death of weatherman Jim O'Brien. O'Brien was the Tug McGraw of local news - outgoing, vibrant, and had his own show, Primetime, and even did Dialing for Dollars. He was ubiquitous, with an impish Irish grin, and zest for life. Well, that zest cost him his life when he died in the early 1980s when his parachute didn't open. I believe it was for a sequence on Primetime. Gardner, O'Brien, and pre-fraud Don "Tolly" Tollefson (Sports) were the three amigos on the Philly broadcast news scene. Gardner was a pro's pro during that broadcast, but when the show ended, there was no outro music and the camera freeze-framed on Gardner's face, his eyes closed and face on the verge of being twisted up in grief. Jim Gardner was all of us that day, and I, for one, will miss his consistency, professionalism, and his humility.

Ok, so, knocking on the door of 1,000 posts, some things have come clearly to light for me:

- I initially came here for Flyers talk...and now I haven't talked Flyers in years
- The intellectual humor here is off the charts. It's really a vanguard of online discourse
- I love animals but loathe photos of animals
- Most everyone seems in on the joke, no matter what that joke is
- We're almost all white guys (mea culpa, Chinatown)
- The first thing I do when I wake up is check this site (porn not included)
- I never want to meet any of you in person. I have a proud reputation of being an idiot and cannot let the veil drop to show you how much of your master I really am
- I trust the "sources" here to break news - with realistic analyses - ahead of other places
- I never type "lol" - I am categorially against it

I'm sure there are other things, but that's a solid recap. I really want my #1,000 post to be deep, meaningful, and something I can look back on and say, "Yeah, I posted that," while puffing out my chest and giving the royal wave.

Get ready for a masterpiece...
I was the token Chinese guy on my bus in high school. Sidebar it was fun times because we had almost an hour sometimes to shit stir before any of the stops were made.

Side sidebar, do you like fancy hockey stats such as Corsi and Fenwick?

I confess that's never really reached me. It's funny because as a Reporting Analytics manager, I find myriad ways to look at data, but when it comes to my sports, I'm a back-of-the-hockey/baseball/football-card guy, because that's how I grew up and I just settled in. Hell, I'm lucky I can grasp OPS. When Ulf Nilsson had a "Record Breaker" card for Topps/O-Pee-Chee for "Highest Shooting Percentage in a Season," in the late 1970s, I was dumbfounded. What the hell was THIS all about? Even when Stolen Bases were finally added to the backs of Baseball cards, I had to readjust myself.

This is probably an allegory for HFboards and the Flyers.

Somethings never change.

Close enough. You're in.

My morning eggs consists of sauteed sliced mushrooms and scallions..some airfried red potatoes and then the sunny side egg with a little shredded cheese and some Trader Joes Jalapeno sauce on the side.

The prices have been eggsorbitant for sure..
