It’s not so much I have an issue with his use of tools or him himself. It’s craftsman like him that will see this video, make what he’s making and then go and charge $600 for what is essentially a plain wooden box that might be able to hold a few pieces of mail. . It’s handcrafted and artisanal!
I know he’s in it for the craft and the box was an example of his work. I completely get that.

I hear you. Around here people pay a lot for "Amish" crafted things, thinking they are getting something like Sellers makes. In reality it's basically just a brand name, and any half decent handyman could make most of it for a fraction of the price.

The biggest rip-off these days is what people charge for "live edge" pieces. I went to a higher-end furniture store with my brother and sister in law a couple years ago. They wanted my opinion on the quality, and it was an excuse for the four of us to go to Troegs brewery after. The furniture was very well made. Solid hardwood, dovetailed drawers, solid joinery all around. Pricey, but worth it.
They also had live edge coffee and end tables priced north of $1200. The legs were just simple metal legs. Slab of wood and metal legs screwed on the bottom for over a grand. Madness. I put this bar top in my buddy's basement. That slab cost us $70 at auction.

I've got the NBA on. The Child doesn't know if she wants the Warriors or Nets to win because neither are animals, so she is rooting for the basketball.

Her big project today was her naughty/nice list.

Nice: Nearly everyone she can think of.

Naughty: Daddy, Mommy, George (a boy at school who hit her at recess)

I told a former coworker she was counted as Nice, and she offered to buy the Child a car. The Child then spent the next half hour high on power again, gloating about how it will be a shiny racecar that she's gonna drive one hundred fast. At some point I may need to tell her she isn't getting a car.

You need to teach her not to watch NBA basketball.
This is the way.

If I start watching Smackdown again will they stop killing the leopards

You stopped after The Rock left, didn't you?

Ok, so, knocking on the door of 1,000 posts, some things have come clearly to light for me:

- I initially came here for Flyers talk...and now I haven't talked Flyers in years
- The intellectual humor here is off the charts. It's really a vanguard of online discourse
- I love animals but loathe photos of animals
- Most everyone seems in on the joke, no matter what that joke is
- We're almost all white guys (mea culpa, Chinatown)
- The first thing I do when I wake up is check this site (porn not included)
- I never want to meet any of you in person. I have a proud reputation of being an idiot and cannot let the veil drop to show you how much of your master I really am
- I trust the "sources" here to break news - with realistic analyses - ahead of other places
- I never type "lol" - I am categorially against it

I'm sure there are other things, but that's a solid recap. I really want my #1,000 post to be deep, meaningful, and something I can look back on and say, "Yeah, I posted that," while puffing out my chest and giving the royal wave.

Get ready for a masterpiece...

Congratulations! You've come to right place.😉

As a media buff, I'm often apprised of what some of the better newscasters are doing in various cities.

One of them is Jim Gardner.

I had seen clips of him before and loved his demeanor and delivery -- he's the type of understated pro who sounds authoritative no matter what story he's delivering.

Dec. 21st was his final broadcast after so many years on the job, as some of you who follow mainstream media are all too well aware. A friend sent me a video of it.

From the police escorting Gardner to work, to the viewer tailagate greeting him, taking photos with him and him spending time with the crowd, to colleagues offering their best wishes during the newscast at different junctures, to finally him talking directly into the camera and delivering a goodbye message that was both professional and emotional at the same time -- what a classy way to close the books on a great career.

I doubt the next anchor will have anything close to Gardner's impact with most now getting their news from different platforms that don't even involve a newscaster. End of an era, I guess. Good luck to him.

Gardner is a Philly legend. The most amazing thing about him is he looks exactly the same now as he did in the 80's. I think his hair was more grey than white, but other than that? Ageless.

used to live about 5mi. away from shady maple. Don't go on prime rib night the meat is far from prime. Breakfast is great though.

That's disappointing. I've never been there for dinner and never heard anything about. Everyone I know that's been there goes for breakfast.

Finally got an Amazon Prime so I’m just starting out “Man in the High Castle”. Big fan of these fictional what if modern war type movies/shows.
I could not stand that show. It’s a soap opera disguised as historical fiction.
Sneaky Pete(I think that’s Amazon), terminal list, jack ryan are all great shows.

A surprisingly good series on Prime is Reacher, starring Thad Castle from Blue Mountain State.
Reacher was another one I couldn’t remember the name too. Very good show.

"Jack Ryan" is good, and the new season just came out or is coming out soon. The rest of their slate is ... woof. Be especially careful when you hear people tell you to watch "The Boys" - it's really, really shit, like it belongs on the WB, but people for some reason cream over it. There is an extremely hot actress in it though, the one with blonde hair.

It’s for the “I can’t believe they did that” factor. It’s an alright show at best.

Some of the other themed nights are good, just the prime rib night isn't worth the price of the poor grade of meat.
