Lias is a really thick kid and he absolutely hammered some Tampa guys in the offensive zone last night.

Honestly, Micheal Haley has been fine too. I know the talk before the season was you can do worse than Haley but he still sucks (which he kinda does) but he's been good defensively and I'd rather him over that dumbass McKegg.

I want Lias to get more time but the 4th line has been good lately.

Lias just seems like a guy built to be slotted into a nice middle 6 role. Especially as a long term 3C if Chytil keeps playing the way he did yesterday. Howden deserves a demotion to the 4th line.

McKegg falls down like every time he's on the ice. the MSG ice doesn't seem great, but he flops like it's his business. No balance at all lmao. That's something you never see from like, Panarin, unless he's completely off balance.

I'm disappointed Howden has not, at all, built on his great game against Buffalo. He should be at his best against a team like Tampa and he was invisible on a night where the majority of the team was noticeable.

Another great thing about having Fil was that you could noticeably see how much faster he was than every forward on this Rangers team not named Kreider, and he was good with his puck pursuit. Rangers have been lacking a lot of speed at forward(and defense) this season, especially when it's Zib - Strome - Howden - Lias at center ice. Even on the wings, we don't have enough guys who can blow by defenders with speed or use speed to their advantage, but Fil is a great skater.

And on top of Howden playing like absolute crap, Kakko is stuck with him so we're effectively having our 2OA pick dragged down playing with him. Again, think Fast should be slotted on that 3rd line and Panarin should be playing with Kakko.

Panarin's played with the most skilled guy on his team besides himself in Chicago(Kane) and Columbus(Dubois), so why not with the Rangers too? Kakko is definitely our most skilled guy, excluding Bread.

Kakko hasn't done enough to earn those minutes and Fast has been a good addition to that line. He retrieves pucks.

Sure but if this is a "development year" we should be giving rookies / young players extended looks instead of deferring to vets, otherwise what exactly are we developing?

I don't disagree with the fact that Kakko shouldn't be on the top line and it's mostly his own fault but I think this logic is self-defeating.

Well in fairness, you also don't want him drinking from the proverbial fire hose if you don't need him to.

Development isn't just about throwing a bunch of young kids to the wolves and hoping they improve with minutes

I mean this is very much guy vs guy though when it comes to the goalies. There are only 2 of them and 1 net. When Georgiev is significantly outplaying hank and he is, and the team is also better in front of him and they are, it’s not just about stats it’s demeanor it’s calming influence on the team it’s screaming at an 18 year old for a turnover Goal against when you’re winning a game 3-0. (Hank did this)

It’s time for Georgiev to be the starter. That means the lions share of the load. Hank will still play but he shouldn’t be playing 2 or 3 games to every one Georgiev plays. Not anymore.

just like Staal shouldn’t be playing too pairing mins ( or frankly any at this point)

Except that 1) No, Georgiev has not outplayed Henrik and 2) in 2019 most competitive teams rely on a tandem that nearly splits the regular season 50/50. Two of three VEZINA FINALISTS last season played 46 games. The two goalies in the Stanley cup final played 46 and 32 reg. season games.

But also, I just want to double back to point #1, because it's important.

it's not but it is about putting them in positions to succeed where they can exhibit their skills and attributes.

like I don't quite understand how skilled players are supposed to strut their stuff playing with grinders if that's not their game. I have much less of an issue putting a Howden or Andersson with Smith/Lemieux/Haley than I do a Kakko or Chytil.

He has absolutely outplayed Henrik I’m not sure how you can say otherwise and he has been outplaying him since last year

is it possible to discuss a player not playing well without HF crying "WHIPPING BOY!!!" in unison?

It's not warranted is the problem. He has played fine, he isnt supposed to be a superstar, basically a 3rd line + pk guy. He was miscast as a 2c, he is closer to his potential than most on this team. The fact he is higher in the lineup than Andersson isnt his fault.

If Mika is back for Saturday

Panarin Mika Fast/Kakko
Kreider Chytil Buchnevich
Lemieux Strome Kakko/Fast
Smith Howden Andersson

those would be my lines. I see pros and cons of 24 and 17 playing on either line so fine either way.

Because it's not true. I can at least look at the stats and identify this, what're you bringing to the table?

And before you say watching games: I'm also doing that and coming to the same conclusion. Hank has been very good. We've been getting slapped across the ice since the season started.

I like ADA as much as anyone here, but his Future is toasted as a Ranger.
No it isn't

Besides Trouba, ADA is literally our only proven commodity on RD right now. Prospects are great until they aren't. Fox has looked great so far but its been 10 games.

Out of that group, I agree that ADA is probably the leading candidate for a trade, but its far from being set in stone.

And I don't see the issue with criticizing Howden's play. The guy has had one good game, and has been completely useless otherwise. Lias has deserved the 3C spot over him for quite a while now. I'm not bashing him, I want the guy to succeed. Just think Lias deserves better than the 4C spot that Howden should really be occupying.
