If the market is as desparate as they were last year at the trade deadline for a 3/4C who plays special teams and wins faceoffs, Boyle could definitely get a second. A third is way more likely, however.

The likes of Boulton, Martin and Carkner on the ice all night?

Sign me up!

all it takes is one shift, so that's what? 30-45 seconds?

The three guys combine for approx. 25 minutes a game.

11+ from Carkner
10+ from Martin
3+ from Boulton

We have no one that will check Boulton

We have no one that can even check Martin in that regards.

Like I said, I know that guys like Asham are a dying breed, but they are not dead yet.

I was against paying prust that contract when he got it, but the way it's looking now (and i'm not on the cliff yet) i'd rather pay him the million more than asham. He can actually play hockey and throw down.

You're right, he has. But should we judge 9 games over how he has played through an entire season? On top of that, he doesn't have his pk partner in prust and didn't have any sort of training camp to learn the system with his new partner.

He's not making excuses...we shouldn't either.

He's played like garbage.

Sitting a game isn't going to hurt him and if he is the reason we are winning and losing games, then the problem is alot bigger than we want to admit.

I'm not against him sitting a game for a kick in the butt. If this is anything more than that, i'd be pissed.

Prust is certainly the type of guy you don't mind overpaying, but with the CBA ending and cap uncertainty it makes sense why they didn't.

The Rangers are giving Miller a real good look playing with players who can play and not wasting him on the 4th line giving him 5 minutes. Miller comes up. Boyle plays less than 10 minutes. Torts calls out a group of players. Boyle is a healthy scratch. The Rangers brought up McDonagh and then traded Rozsival.

The Rangers traded a 3rd for Boyle when was basically an AHL player. He isn't worth than a 3rd after he established himself a legit NHL player? The Rangers would probably want a player in return. A defenseman. A younger cheaper forward.

Guys that USED TO be like Asham aren't a dying breed. They're the new breed of tough guy, and it's great. Brandon Prust, the modern age Asham. The problem is Asham has been bad this season and it looks to me like he's no longer effective at what made him more than a goon. Not to mention he's a mercenary who's played for every other ATL division team.

We're not magically going to get run more with Asham not in the lineup. They didn't stop Kreider from getting nailed by Orpik. Rupp couldn't stop Sauer from getting nailed by Dion. I'm sick of these useless enforcers wasting roster spots. Asham needs to start playing like a decent 4th liner in other aspects of the game before I stop throwing up everytime I see him.

No one mentioned in your post got 'run'. They were all perfectly legal hits. Its hockey, not golf.

Asham is there for guys who get out of hand and need to be tamed, or to spark the team when they are slacking.

Yup.

Alright, then. Where was the goon squad when Orpik knee to knee'd Stepan last season? Or anyone to jump on Carkner when he leapt on Boyle in the playoffs? Or when dirtbags like Marchand and Lucic are throwing little cheapshots and low bridges at guys? Or hell, when Malkin tomahawks Staal in the ****ing head?

Nowhere. They failed to spark the team (except in the winter classic) and they failed to tame anybody. They've been useless.

I actually like that about him.

He knows who and what he is and is willing to do that for for the highest $$.

These are not the guys you have to worry about resting on their laurels once they sign. The job description they have prevents it.

Asham is a guy that is going to come in, forecheck, finish his checks and police things. He may not be the best as what he does, he never was but he has always given an honest effort.

I know how I feel; great. Nice guy, strong effort (generally); bad hockey player. Let's go on a streak and keep him out of the lineup.

Bad hockey player? I completely disagree. He's sure as hell not right in the top 6, but he's not a bad hockey player.

He was an AHL player who was a former 1st round draft pick, being unestablished and holding a value based on potential, they were basically paying the third to take a chance on him living up to his 1st round potential. He clearly has not and now that he is defined to his playstyle it is more likely he is actually worth that third based on his actual ability rather than potential.

Except an honest effort from him in his age 34-35 season is not good. He's past his prime.

Get me a guy who's like Asham was when he didn't suck. Get me a Brandon Prust. But please, stop acquiring guys who were never good at hockey (John Scott, Boogaard), guys who are past their prime (Rupp, Asham)...and especially both (Brashear )

I understand why they didn't sign him and at the time i really was against paying that money for him. But now, in hindsight, i don't feel great about it. We are only 9 games in and for the first time in a long time, i have confidence in this team and feel they will be fine. That being said and again, i'm not on the ledge, but right now, i feel we should have payed prust that extra million bucks.

Again. Yup.
