I think inspired play from Miller, Cally and Kreider will get the team playing hard. I'd put Stepan with Nash and Gabby and Richards with Kreider and Miller/Cally.

“@AGrossRecord: Looks like full morning skate for #NYR. D Dan Girardi (undisclosed) on the ice after not practicing yesterday.”

We need some really good players to make some really good plays.
And we’re not getting really good plays from our really good players consistently enough.
- John Tortorella

He's obviously talking about Bickel.

Going to MSG for the first time ever. Pretty big expectations for the game and if course for the Rangers to win. If you spot a big guy in a Tikkanen jersey in section 226, that'll be me.

Enjoy it man! :yo:

Why is Bickel in there instead of Eminger? What is the obsession with Bickel? So stupid...

“@AGrossRecord: Dan Girardi off ice early at #NYR morning skate, not participating in line rushes.”

“@AGrossRecord: Ryan Callahan participating in line rushes on J.T. Miller's right wing with Chris Kreider on the left.”

Does that mean G is not going to play?

Sounds like it...

Quick update from a full Rangers’ morning skate at their practice facility.

All 23 Rangers were on the ice to start but Dan Girardi went off before the line rushes started, a good indication he will miss his second straight game.

Brian Boyle, instead of practicing with the top 12 forwards, was being used as an extra defenseman, a good sign he, too, will not play tonight.

Ryan Callahan did participate in the line rushes as part of the third line, a pretty decent indication he might be able to go tonight.

So it looks like Girardi and Steve Eminger out on defense, though nothing is confirmed.

Lines:
Marian Gaborik-Brad Richards-Taylor Pyatt
Carl Hagelin-Derek Stepan-Rick Nash
Chris Kreider-J.T. Miller-Ryan Callahan
Arron Asham-Jeff Halpern-Darroll Powe

“@stevezipay: Boyle and Bickel still on ice with coaches, appear healthy scratches”

Wow. Torts' boy in the doghouse. Although Torts' boy is definately Stu Pickles at this point. Don't know why he's in over Eminger.
Eminger-Gilroy? Could be worse.
Bickel-Gilroy? Oh god why???

Top two lines just look like one of those random Renney generators. Torts throwing everything at the wall and hoping something sticks.

Love the look of the third line on paper. All america, in your face with some offensive flair to boot talent. Now THAT'S an NHL third line.

I'd have sat Asham instead of Boyle as well, but the message is sent. I'm an admitted Boyle hater, I think he's way overused on this team. But he's a guy I think will respond well to a one game benching, and I'm excited to see how he responds on Sunday, assuming he gets back into the lineup.

Gotta suspect Asham drops 'em in this game. Probably with Matt Martin, much to Boomer Esiason's delight ;)

Coach trying to fire up Boyle
Good thing by Torts IMO
One of the moves I can really agree with

If Miller sticks - he (Boyle) will probably be moved done to the 4th line long term
Which I think would be a great thing for the team as a whole as we could then roll 4 lines and spread out the icetime better

Asham - Boyle - Halpern - Powe fighting it out for spots on the 4th line sure looks better than it did one week ago I must readily say.
This lineup is now showing some real likability

Call up Mashinter if we need a heavy

Ferriero and Palmieri as likeable callup options

Once Girardi is back - I would waive Eminger
If he clears he can get some serious minutes in Hartford and stay warm helping out the abysmal D they have down there and be a good callup option as well.
Then I would seriously try to find that #6 D we have all been talking about.
For a midlevel prospect & mid round pick. Maybe when Burns returns to the San Jose lineup - which should be within 7-10 days?? Then they gotta get rid of "someone" it seems... :naughty:
Hopefully enough roster movement until the deadline
Thereafter we should see what we are lacking - if anything - to give us serious depth until the end of June
Rental UFAs at the deadline only please - unless a crazy deal appears - or unless we deal Boyle for a similar contract and upgrade adding more than him - but I do not see that happening really...
