Wow
I know we need probably several years of good rain to make up for what seems like a lifelong drought

But I REALLY h8 the inconvenience rain causes in my day to day I can't imagine living someplace like Seattle

Portland was awesome, rained most of the time but it was never really "cats and dogs" more like "kittens and puppies." I lived there back in the late 90's. Spent plenty of time in Seattle (had friends that worked at Valve) and it was pretty similar climate-wise. August was amazing, but the rest of the year was dreary and raining soon if not currently raining. When it rains every day you get used to it. The days there when it rained particularly hard (like an actual storm) were just as much of a pain in the ass as a stormy day here due to decreased vis etc.

Today's storm is supposed to be a storm, not just rain. Flooding sucks and having a bunch of rain all at once isn't good for anyone really. We need several consistent years of rain, but not all in one day.

Yeah not looking forward to the drive back home after work today...
Sounds like it's not so much the amount of rain that's the issue, but given the amount of rain already this month the ground is already super saturated. The wind speeds and those Eucalyptus trees are also danger.

I was too young to remember this, but supposedly 100+ trees fell in Golden Gate Park when we had really bad winds like this in 1995.

I wasn't in SF yet, but can confirm the last time it rained like f***all with really high winds a shit load of trees went down in GGP/my hood.

IIRC GGP arborists have been working to properly thin/shape the trees the past few decades to better handle wind.

I go out there about once a week or so. I never noticed any "shaping" but maybe they're so good it's not obvious, so the tree doesn't get all self conscious. 99% of the people I see doing work out there are volunteers.

I saw you'd last posted and assumed someone died. hah

My asshole neighbor refuses to trim their big ass magnolia that looms over my garage

I swear if this storm powerbombs that tree through my roof I'm gonna drop the gloves

That drive back on 280 was pretty redonk. Going 55mph but still two episodes of brief hydroplaning.

Should help but it’s moreso the shallow roots rather than the shape or size though.

@sharski send contractor repair bills to them

Sharski be all puttin' on the foil like:

When I was in community college and still living at home, I had to ponder this poem for literally several hours before I understood wtf Robert Frost was talking about well enough to write a paper about it

Once I had to actually maintain my own house and deal with neighbors myself, that's when I REALLY understood it

Keep you and yours indoors and safe.

Yup! We have excellent drainage and an "over-engineered" house. Jeep has fuel and emergency clothes/supplies in case we get evacuation orders. That will only come if the hills start sliding. Fingers crossed!

You're gonna need a bigger boat!

Also, don't forget to bring a towel.

With this next system being bigger, maybe! Now at 7.88 inches. Expecting at least another 4 inches overnight.
