Toronto scored a total of 10 goals in the 5 game series with Columbus last year and started the Montreal series with a sterling, 1 goal effort tonight.

1.8 goals per game over their last 6 playoffs games is not nearly good enough for a team with this offensive talent. I don't want to hear about the trap, clogging up the neutral zone or running into hot goaltenders. Other high powered scoring teams are putting the puck in the net, at will, in their respective playoff series and they're being led by their stars.

It's time for Matthews, Marner and Nylander to step up and match the production of guys like Mackinnon, Rantanen, Landeskog, Huberdeau, Barkov, Kucherov, Point, Svechnikov etc... Those young stars are leading the way offensively for their squads. Ours have no excuse not to execute and produce at an incredibly high level. They were shut out twice in 5 games last year and held to 1 goal to start the series tonight.

Not near good enough. Do better.

The Leafs have 4 5v5 goals under Keefe in 6 playoff games. His system is pure garbage for offense.

And yea the players, Marner has played 1 playoff game in his career that was worth an 11 million dollar price tag that i can remember.

More offence will definitely be required going forward. To do otherwise is asking for too much out of the goalie for too often. I'm happy they didn't concede much. Game 1 obviously had its bigger story though.

Seeing the level of intensity the teams were playing at before the Leafs started their series honestly brought it all back to me.

I like to think it'll be different, but it's been proven multiple times that our stars hate being in high intensity games. They refuse to embrace the grind.

I hated this game too, but this series is far, far from over. With that being said, our star players need to start performing in spite of heavy checking, it’s been too easy to shut them down by playing super physical. Hope they can turn it around in game 2 - I do think there’s a decent chance they can.

It ain't just these past six games, it's these past five years.

2016-17 to present.

Regular season goals per game, 3.30, 3rd in NHL.
Playoffs goals per game, 2.46, 22nd in NHL.

Totally unacceptable.
Their more recent performance has been worst

2018-present

Regular season goals per game; 3.41, 2nd in the NHL
Playoffs goals per game; 2.15, 4th worst among the 25 NHL teams that played in the postseason during this time period.

But of course, the blame will somehow be put on Andersen or Rielly (the new whipping boy now that Andy is on the bench). Its time for these team's superstars to step up, look at the numbers Kucherov and Mackinnon have been putting up, it shouldn't be outrageous to expect one of the Leafs' superstars to have that kind of run after half a decade of playoff attempts.

No, we don’t shit on our star forwards when they underperform in game 7s and such. Just our goalies.
What really got to me was the reverence Price was being given for his performance last year against the Penguins. You know who else had a .936 in last year’s playoffs and isn’t being offered the same? Frederick Andersen. Different set of standards.
Score a damn goal boys. I can’t believe one of them got away with the “not ready” excuse last year and I certainly do not agree with Nylander getting only 16 minutes this game.

we have 4 stars:
1 is done (Taveras)
1 was great last night (Nylander)
2 were ok relative to what they are capable of (Marner/Matthews).
- Matthews worked and got some chances, but he needs to covert, good but not productive isn't enough
- Marner also worked hard, but I don't know what it is, doesn't take practice seriously enough maybe? or just has a hard time adjusting to the pace of playoffs? but same as last year he wasn't ready for game 1. Plays died on his stick all night.

We are already a top heavy team and with Taveras out we are going to need beastly performances from Matthews/Marner, neither has shown they can do that in the playoffs yet - They need to figure it out for us to have a chance.

How many posts did we hit? Considering the circumstances I think we played alright. This team is going to turn it around, I have faith in the boys.

No more excuses, they have to show enough class to finish. Mackinnon has 7 points in 2 games and Huberdeau has 7 points in 3 games. Landeskog and Ratananen have 5 and 4 points respectively. Guys like Barkov, Kucherov, Point, Svechnikov, etc are all better than ppg so far.

We need to be scoring 3-5 goals per night and Matthews, Marner and Nylander need to all be better than 1 PPG the res of the series. That's what other teams are getting from their star players.

but but but.. i was told by the smartest hockey minds on this forum that Andersen has sucked for two years... how can both statements be true?

Or Huberdeau... Or Landeskog... Or Barkov... Point... Or Svechnikov... Or Letang...

There are a ton of guys out there that are tearing up for their respective teams right now.

It's hard to not be predictable when your star defense men shoots little baby shit soft shots, We will go nowhere with this dude.

Rielly played better last night but I don’t understand how he could be in the league for 7-8 years and not improve his shot even a little. Shooting has to be one of the easier skills to improve. Surely can’t be a lack of work ethic???

It's far more than stats, here.

Freddy can't make the big saves when it matters.

Worst, he even allows the most deflating goals at the worst times. Being a clutch goalie is more than stats.

Playoffs Andersen:

Dubois' deceptive wrist shot sneaks past Andersen - Sportsnet.ca

vs

Playoffs Price:

That is the main difference between them.

uh he has. He's been the worst goalie inevery playoff series he has played in. The fact that our offense has been trash doesn't absolve freddy.
