Hilarious how easily a good solid forecheck throws this team off, make the obvious pass and get the **** out of the zone

At least Cali and Hags didn't aimlessly throw puck at each other/the net hoping someone would deflect one in all night tonight.

I hate to admit it, but social and political stances make a huge difference. I'd be considered progressive even in Brooklyn, so a place like South Carolina doesn't exactly mesh well with me.

And I go 2.839/Gallon with my supermarket rewards card the other day.:naughty:

Kinda silly. My aunt lives in Indianapolis a city in a state that voted Republican all but one election since the 60s I think. I hung out with some college students there and couldn't tell the difference. For the most part people are people in larger towns. Maybe they're different in the boondocks.

I'd hate to continue to go OT, but

1. College students tend to not be locals. And if they are, well, they tend to be exceptions, not the standard.

2. People are still people. But there's a divide in values so wide that it often feels like another country. But, that's the bible belt.

I'm still amazed they managed to bring the 'canes to the Carolinas.

Bolded: :)

It's true that if Sather can work his trade magic, we have to stand back and let that happen. If he can find a way to rob a team like Colorado blind, well that would just be fantastic. Hell, a UFA and Brassard for one of their top 6 would be attractive. Or just as good, Winnepeg. Ladd, Wheeler, Kane are all targets.

But how drunk does a GM have to be to bite on something like that? Probably drunk enough to end up in a hospital before pulling the trigger on the deal, I think.

Interesting that you brought up Winnipeg. Two weeks ago, it was beginning to look as though they would obviously be sellers. The romance in Winnipeg was starting to wear a bit thin. Claude Noel was an interesting and intellectual coach, and he got canned. Paul Maurice comes in and it is a 180 degree change in how that team feels about its roster. Evander Kane is happy, nobody is thinking let's get rid of any of those guys. That type of up and down feeling will happen around the league, things change.Granted, there was a lot of conjecture and guessing going on. I doubt that there were any verifiable overtures from Winnipeg related to them entertaining possible trades of Jets key players. Another two weeks of a downward spiral, and that would probably change.
A Cup contender loses a core guy, and Callahan would look pretty good. Could the return to the Rangers be a very good player who fits the need (and other pieces, such as a contract going back) because right now this other team needs a seasoned vet to go balls out for the playoffs?
I am just hoping that Sather sees any possible need perceived by another team as an opportunity to do the right deal, and advance the Rangers chance for success in the future, and not place undue importance on playoff success this season.

I still see far too much hesitation from this team. We always look for a pass that isn't there instead of hammering it at the net and hoping for the best. It seems like other teams do that to us. A lot. Get the puck to the net and try and hammer it home.

This team still looks like they want to score pretty goals instead of ugly goals. I guess the main reason is we don't have enough guys that go into the dirty areas. I don't think they played horrible tonight; but against a good defensive team we simply don't have the shooters to capitalize on the few chances they gave us.

I visited their house, they lived in a suburb of Indianapolis. Anyway, I don't want to continue talking about this and going OT.

Another option to inquire is Chicago. Even as a rental, that would make their right wing depth Kane, Hossa, Callahan, Shaw. I have no idea what we'd look for in return, but their drafting as of late has historically been, well, outstanding.

A lot of intensity for an inter-conference game.

I think that was just the Blues making sure it was a bounce-back after what happened in NJ. I'm happy that our guys pushed back, but STL just wanted this one that much more

Sadly, this will not happen.

I was just using the Jets as an example of how things can change in perception of which team is in 'trouble' and over which the vultures will circle and look for a deal. Who is in play, and all that.
What you mentioned about the Hawks is exactly the type of thing I could see happening. I won't pretend to know what the Hawks could offer the Rangers, or what their cap situation is , but I could see the Hawks wanting Callahan.

NEW YORK – One of the strongest elements of the Rangers’ game let them down Thursday night at Madison Square Garden, and because it did, they’ll be heading into the NHL Stadium Series at Yankee Stadium losers of two straight in regulation for the first time in nearly six weeks.

The Rangers’ power-play – lethal for most of the season – had a rare off-night. After scoring in eight of their previous ten games, on Thursday it put up just its fifth goose-egg since the holiday break, on three chances.

Was out and just caught the end of the 3rd. Would someone be kind enough to enlighten me with a short synopsis of the game? Curious how Klein looked. 2-1 ain't that bad, I though St. Louis was gonna come in and destroy us after losing to the Dovals.

With how St. Louis takes away space and plays such solid defense it makes you wonder how the Devils put up 7 goals on them. They must've been looking past that game.

STL plays the way the Rangers always tried/wished they did. Shattenkirk is what MDZ would be if he ever stepped up. The end. Next.

IMO, a very scrappy game with both teams D not giving a lot of space or time to the forwards. The Blues established a strong forecheck early and did a good job of making it difficult for the Rangers to move the puck out of their zone and through the neutral zone. The teams traded half chances early (Rangers probably had the better chances). Blues 1st goal started with a horrible pass from Girardi to Nash at our offensive blueline. The pass caused a turnover and the Blues took it deep, our forwards and D over committed and pass went off Steen's skate and by Lundqvist.

Nash scored a nice goal in the 2nd to tie it. It started with a poor pass from Stepan to Nash who sent it deep, McD pinched in and pushed it around to Stepan who feed a much better pass to Nash. We had a few more looks but couldn't get anything by Halak.

Started the 3rd on the PP but looked pretty ordinary. Nash took a soft slashing penalty soon after and Shattenkirk buried a shot straight away. We created a lot of rebounds from Halak but didn't have anyone getting in front to get them. Cally had a golden opportunity late to tie it but hit Halak in the chest and there was one late chance off a faceoff with 7.1sec left but it was no good.

Overall a very defensive game (many called it boring, I say it looked like Torts hockey). They pressured us really well but we still created some good chances, just couldn't convert. Outside of the 1st goal, I thought our D was really good. Staal and Stralman were the standout pair and Klein looked really solid, he was good at getting into the passing lanes and made some good reads on the PK.

Sounds about right.

Thanks man.

I think Staal Stralman played their best games in a LONG time last night.

The Rangers are 4-3-1 in their latest long home stand. The Islanders,Avs and Oilers are the remaining games after the two outdoor games. At Pitt two weeks from today is the last game before the Olympic break. Its also roster freeze day in two weeks. 12-13-3 at home.

I went to the game last night and sat by the Blues end in warm ups because the Blues rarely come to NY. That's a very good team. Their goaltending stinks and they aren't as good as the three California teams. Very good team. Backes is a monster. Last time I saw him was during the NHL lockout when he was walking to a NHLPA negotiating session at the hotel on 43rd and 8th. How do the Rangers get a player like that? They have to draft him(get lucky)and be patient.

This is how the islanders beat us. Houston: we have a problem

One of the boringest hockey games I can recall. Literally what happened in this game that was new or exciting?

They got them up ice and to open up.

I only saw a bit of that game, but STL was a bit unprepared to play that style too. They were a little naive. There are almost no team like NJ in the West nowadays.

I agree, Backes was all over the place last night, Rangers had no answer. Blues are a very good team, but their goaltending and lack of a go to guy will cost them IMO. But make no mistake, they're a team nobody wants to face in the playoffs, they might lose but they'll take a piece of you as they go down

.

Are there any teams that actually thrive under a solid forecheck ? We've done the same to several good teams this season and they all ended up looking like we did last night
