It's going to be a long season, but hopefully there are enough games like tonight where you can pick out enough bright spots in a game we probably should've lost. Some random thoughts:

The gap between the top line and the rest of the forward group is hilariously large.

Kreider/Strome/Kakko may have shown something in camp to the coaches, but it clearly isn't translating to games. It's just 3 individuals kind of existing on the ice together. Some sparks of something with individual efforts but just no cohesion at all.

Trouba had a monster game. It'll be huge if he can be that guy consistently going forward.

Hank was mostly excellent. Kept the team in it even if that 3rd goal was a softie.

Howden had the kind of game I expect him to have. Unspectacular but played his role and scored a greasy goal that ended up being the game winner.

Andersson had some good moments but looked bad leaving Scheifele uncovered in front of the net for a goal. Lost his man a number of times in his own end. In his defense, that's a lot to ask of a young player.

Kakko started coming on at points during the game. You can tell he's going to be a hell of a player.

This team badly needs someone to step up and be a viable 2C.

Skjei was trash.

Staal generated a heck of a lot of offensive chances... for both teams.

ADA was kind of a mess. Looked bad letting Ehlers blow by him to set up Wheeler.

Hajek was all over the map. Said in the GDT he couldn't field a pass but then had some young McDonagh-esque moments with the puck on his stick.

What exactly did you expect? They have had practically zero game time together. The lineup as a whole has 4 new guys on the team, plus Hajek( a few games last year) and Lemieux(about a month). They are going to need some time together to build some sort of chemistry. This is why I felt that instead of playing scrubs who had no chance of making this team Quinn should have played a more complete roster during the pre-season.

If Trouba puts up points, he's fine on your top pair as long as he had defensive coverage.

Hopefully one of Miller or Hajek can provide that.

Thought Scheifele was unbelievable for Winnipeg. Dominated a ton of shifts in our zone

Scheifle and Wheeler basically run that team. Very solid core
They’re a better team than the Rangers right now for sure so it’a no surprise they dominated at times

Strome is just not that good. He was hot last season and unfortunately, we didn't move on that hot streak.

Panarin could carry his own line, but this group has chemistry. Some nerves, expect them to play better as the season progresses.

Hajek needs to keep his head up. Should come with reps, but he's getting killed. Just his 6th NHL game.

Please find more time for Andersson. He played well in limited minutes. Get him in Strome's spot soon.

Could see McKegg get into next game for someone like Namestnikov. He was not good. Even got demoted in the 3rd.

Hank was good, except for that Wheeler goal. I'd play Georgiev next game. Hank was shelled tonight, but stood up to it. Not sure he can do that over 60 games, so rest will be needed. Congrats on 450 Hank. Could get 500 by the end of next season

Donnie enjoyed the game

Other teams usually have more than 1 forward line and defenseman/pairing that aren’t a complete mess

Remains to be seen. If we were to lose Trouba for any time, that would be death. But I believe we have plenty of depth pieces that are respectable - or better.

Unrelated, Lemieux is a f*** hole for punching a guy in the throat after the whistle, in a 3-3 game. I would sit him.

People really complaining Lundqvist let in softies? You can argue the 3rd but come on he was the POG and the reason we were able to stay in it.
And didn't Lias win all of his draws?

Was surprised to see ADA get burnt 2-3 times this game ending up in very good scoring chances and a goal. Hopefully it was just his timing and not lack of effort or speed
His D still needs a lot of work. People really underrate the D side of being a Dman around here so ADA has gotten hyped a little too far.

That line had their way with us the whole game. They obliterated us in every zone.

Thankfully they’re like the second best line in hockey (IMO) so it’s whatever.

Was at the Garden for this one and while it had its ups and downs, the hype and atmosphere were electric.

This game could have gotten out of hand if it weren’t for Hank. The guy was solid and robbed some of the best players in the NHL point blank today. Stellar game. He really seems in the zone so far.

This team will have its good days and bad days and we have to stay patient with the youngsters. You could feel the nerves especially in the first.

8 - unreal, physical, absolute bomb of a shot
10 - so nifty, needs the puck on his stick and just slows the game down, but can wire it at any time. Game changer.
93 - this guy is hitting 90+ this year
23 - was very impressed
25 - was not impressed, but it’s 1 game
77 - flat out beat a couple of times, need to see more, but he needs to be better defensively
76 - an ok performance, nothing to write home about
28 - don’t think he even played a shift in the 3rd. Wasn’t very visible. Wonder if he gets some AHL time during the long NYR break. 21 - goal made up for a subpar performance. But again the kid is young.
24 - guy is going to be such a beast. Like Panarin, he needs the puck on his stick. Needs a center who can get him the puck, not sure that’s 16. Can make the argument he should be on the 1st line, but then there wouldn’t be a 2nd line at all. Kid is a player.

If Buchnevich had converted that sweet setup from Strome, we'd be saying he had a decent game. No he's not a 2C but he's not worthless. Not his fault we have no one for that 2nd line spot, i like him more as a 3RW

Loved how we ended up settling down as the game wore on.

But God does strome suck.

Skjei is a complete waste and is over hyped.

DeAngelo showed why he needs to play for his long term contract.

Buch was horrible.
