Just finished the game, Rangers definately had problems with Wheeler and Scheifele. The amount of high quality chances the Jets had wont cut it for the rest of the year. Weirdly enough, Hank got most of the great chances and let that long ass shot by :P

Zibanejad, Trouba were the best Rangers.

Just finished the game. Better late than never takeaways:

- We are going to have a vicious powerplay as long as we don't make a habit of playing PP2 for 1:50 of it.

- We simply don't have the personnel to play a defensively responsible game. I see many run and gun games in store this season.

- Lias very, very predictably, got the least ice time of all forwards. I don't understand why Quinn has a bee in his bonnet about him, but I'm just going to have to get past it; because this will be the reality for the season.

- Hajek and Fox shouldn't be a pairing. Maybe swap Lindgren and Hajek, or maybe just re-work our pairings.

- Zibanejad and Panarin are going to be beastly. And with guys like Trouba, ADA, and Fox to spring them from the backend, they could become one of the most feared duos in the league.

- Hank is too stubborn to go gently into that good night.

- This is going to be a fun season!

If Buchnevich had converted that sweet setup from Strome, we'd be saying he had a decent game.
I think that'd be wrong, though. It's pretty shallow to only look at points scored, he constantly was coughing up the puck and didn't accomplish a whole lot, also had some poor passes under no pressure on mid-ice. He consistently looked like he does not belong anywhere near the top line. And this would be the case even if he had scored a hat trick.

I missed the game (I live in Sweden so I tend to miss them due to that) but how did every new acquisition do?

Grade 1-5
1 - bad
2 - ok
3 - did well
4 - impressing
5 - wow

Kakko, Fox, Panarin & Trouba. Help me out boys/girls.

I saw the highlights, Trouba's goal was such a beauty! Finally a bomb on the point!

Zibanejad should've been named Captain. I expect that to happen within 2 years, he's ready now IMO.

Fox - 2

Panarin - 4
Trouba - 4

Would've given Trouba a 5 but a lot of his attempted breakout passes ended up being turnovers.

I give the Rangers credit for a hard fought victory. But I have to say, we need to do something on the blueline, or we will not come away with many wins the way we played tonight. We will not win by double shifting Brady Skjei. I don't know how anybody can believe he is a top line D-man. And to double shift him is a recipe for disaster. Yeah he made one or two good plays, but his overall game sucked. His lying down to break up plays has got to stop. His no look chips up the boards without being pressured, is inexcusable. He doesn't look like a top line D-man and yet the coaches double shift him. This has got to stop.

That said, the team worked hard to play good D. They weren't that successful, but the effort was there. There were hardly any odd man rushes. Maybe 2 not sure. But overall they played a simple, and smart game. Good game to build off of. We just need to solidify 3D pairings.

Zibanejad was a monster out there. Buch was not effective on that top line. If he doesn't step up, Kakko will replace him. The rookies Fox And Kakko had impressive efforts. And sophomores Lias and Howden also held their own out there. Our youth didn't hurt us. Why Hajek had his ice time reduced, I couldn't say. Need to watch the game again. But overall, it seems our youngsters will be alright.

It is only one game, but getting a W is always a good start.

Oh,.. and I will tell you now, we will badly miss Kreider's speed when he leaves.

Big win for this young group. I was worried when they kept giving up tying goals, but they stuck to the plan and kept working. Never bad to start the season with a W.

Now that was a fun game to watch! Aside from the fantastic first line the other forward lines did exactly what they need to continue to do. The defense was pretty poor but I’m going to chalk part of that up to nerves. I’m not going to give the same pass to Tony D. He looked absolutely brutal out there. On the Jets second goal he just simply skated next to the Jets forward, never even tried to make stick on stick contact and was just content to stay about 4 feet away from the forward without even slowing him down. That’s not defending and there are far too many examples of him just refusing to defend all over the ice( he lets guys stand in front of the net without tying up sticks, he lets forwards come in on him and does not even try to slow them down, he flies the zone when his d partner gets the puck leaving his partner the last man back with the puck and no support.) These are basic hockey things and I really am tired of hearing how he “really wants to defend this season.” I hope he gets it together because he has tremendous ability but if this is his best effort to “defend” than it’s going to be a short stint for him back there on the blue line I suspect.

Give up 4 goals and still finish with a .915 save percentage, about says it all for Hank.
Voted him as 1 of 3 stars, 450 wins to boot, that he had to wait all off season to get.
Trouba amazing! Even though I knew all the hype of people here wanting Trouba and willing to trade just about anyone to get him. Watched him play many games with the Peg, but never really was "that" impressed. Maybe I just caught his bad games.
Mika the obvious other choice. Panarin an honorable.

Moving forward.......anyone want to take a guess as to how many games the Rangers will score 6, and Kakko NOT being on the scoresheet?

I would say a big fat ZERO.

I'll give Smith credit. He's not very good but what he's being asked to do is hard and he's been willing.
He knows he screwed up 2 years ago, was given a real hard slap in the face by being sent down.......NEVER wants to go down that road again, so now he is "willing" to do anything and everything..........good on him, for trying to make to for what he "owed the team". Imho.

Super fun game to watch.

I was can see now why so many people wanted Trouba. It’s only one game but he does a lot of things well. Easily a #1.

Lundqvist let in a few softies. Eh.

I feel like the rangers were trying to troll HF with Howden, Staal, and Smith all scoring.

Panarin is 100% as advertised.

I’m fine with Quinn shortening his bench in the 3rd and not playing Andersson. It’s one game. If it’s happening regularly after 10 games, then it’s a problem. Until then, meh.

This team is going to be frustrating to watch. It’s also going to be fun to watch.

Same here. Mika, Trouba, Henrik. My HM mighty have been Staal for breaking the seal and mucking like a G. But Panarin was impressive, too.

Staal and Tony D. Struggled. There was a ton of taking a Jet dump in on the forecheck and tapping it up off the boards to the side. That isn’t the sin of a cross ice defensive turnover, but quick crashing teams will start destroying that.

I think Tony D is still getting his legs, or at least I really hope so. Otherwise we are going to have problems with that group. They won’t be able to get off the ice and you’ll see a lot of 18-20 minutes of ice time from those two, and not because they play great.
