So Smith-Skjei suck? I mean they were easily our best pair in last year's playoffs. Or does that not count?

Let's be honest.
Skjei played all worldly and Smith rode his coat tails outside of one week.
Smith isn't going to keep up with this system..

Lots to like here. I'll be optimistic on this one, which is rare for me! Hank wasn't great but I'm not alarmed yet. I just hope he's vintage Hank and not "large parts of last season Hank" as we move forward because I don't think Pavelec will be Raanta or Talbot for us. Have a feeling we'll see Nell or Georgiev.

Haven't seen us so quick and creative in a long time. Clearly there's stuff to figure out and new guys to get sorted into the system, find the best chemistry etc.

I did say to a few people that losing to last season's worst team in our home opener would be a very Ranger-esque thing to do. I'm not surprised. I'm also not worried, other than goaltending potentially. I like what I see from a lot of guys and I like the new dynamic. I think this season will be, if nothing else, fun and something to build on. I'd really like Shestyorkin getting some NHL games in now though. Have a feeling we'll need him sooner than later. But I still think Hank can have a good year. Not worth $8.5M at all, I agree with that. Should we have kept Talbot? Raanta? Hard to say. They both deserved their chances elsewhere. They earned that as much as Hank "earned" this contract, but it was certainly too much money too late in his career. Two years earlier, $1M less... Oh well.

Sad to lose, but fun to watch mostly. Varly stole that.

One is a 45-50 point NHL player while the other one put up points in preseason games. You should uppercut yourself for comments like that.

I talk about defense and you respond with production. You should uppercut yourself for comments like that.

was just correcting the fact that Price did not lose the game tonight thats all
Oh okay, just saying Price could’ve gotten shelled tonight and lost 9-0 and I would still think he was the best goalie in the league.

Ppl need to not overreact to one game. The D needs to get in sync with each other. Remember they also just had a week since their last game. The whole team needs to get used to each other in game situations there were some sloppy plays that would’ve been corrected if the guys were more familiar with each other.

Everyone needs to relax and realize the team was overall sloppy, the D needs to get in sync and still they only lost bc the other goalie stole the game. We’re gonna be fine.

I’m not worried about Hank at all. Last year there were times he was behind the play and seemed to lose the puck. I didn’t see any of that tonight, he looked on top of it all game. He needs to get his rhythm and he’ll be fine.

Meaning we should've scored 6. Which means they wouldn't have gotten the empty netter. So 6-3 would've been the score.. ****ing Varly.

Or something like that.

It's dangerous to just plug in the expected goals numbers as they are, but yeah we should have won that game.

That doesn't mean it was particularly good, but we should have won.

Lots I like, and lots I don't like. Pretty much like always.

B Smith was terrific in the playoffs last year Brady being his partner definitely helped but he was a beast.
Physical and more than capable on the second pairing.

Oh I'm definitely giving him more of a chance, here.

Just a really bad few games.

The other wasn't talking about defense. He said Hayes is our 2nd best C. You then turned around and said there are 3 better C's than Hayes... Chytil being one of them.

Can someone who is of that opinion please explain how the first 2 goals were Hank's fault?

I'm glad you enjoy Hayes loafing around the ice not shooting and not passing while he gets himself off with his #SickDangols but that doesn't mean I have to.

You don't. But saying Chytil is better is beyond stupid.

It might've been unrealistic but if Gorton truly wanted to have a home run offseason, he should've turned Staal and Holden (with additional assets of course) into a top-6 C. Okay, we weren't going to trade Staal, but you could've included Holden in a package for a C (I proposed Holden and JT Miller for Duchene in the summer). Relying on Hayes or Chytil as a second-line Center is asking too much.

It was always assumed that we were going to be in the market for a C before the trade deadline, but that's assuming we'll even be in the playoff race.
