Can any of these scratches help the team moving forward. Some names I recognize, others I don't. Do any of the board "scouts" have a comment on the players and their potential with the CBJ.

Kukan deserves a real shot and Hanni might one day be a bottom 6er

Carlsson probably needs another season in Cleveland and two really really good off-seasons to bulk and then get use to his bulk.

Re-sign:
Jenner - no more than 4 mil
Murray - probably somewhere within what Savard got
Bjorkstrand - I'd have to look at comparables, but 3-3.5 range, 3-4 years
Calvert - After his reaction to Torts and the other stuff coming out I doubt he wants to be here any longer. IMO he had the best season of his career this year. We aren't looking at paying at what he wants, but this team needs Calvert.
Broadhurst - He started picking it up at the tail end of the season with the Monsters and would be good leadership for a bunch of the prospects (Abramov, Stenlund, Davidsson?, Sherwood, Robinson, etc.) coming in next season.

Let everyone else walk. Cole was pretty good in the season, but playoffs he was nowhere near that caliber of play.
Would prefer moving Murray up with Savard and getting a RD to play with Nutivaara. Kukan easily the 7th D on this team or they throw him with Savard like they did this season and don't sign a RD. Carlsson still isn't anywhere near the NHL. He needs at least another year in the minors.

We could buy out Dubinsky, but I don't see the point. He's still an ok 4th liner it's just how much we're paying him. If the situation arises that we need cap then that's when to bite the bullet, but there isn't a need this off-season.

Signing Tavares is huge. Extremely unlikely however. Signing him would basically mean us having to do some major cap adjustment and would guarantee Bob being gone after next season with no replacement in sight.

As for trades, we need to get rid of Korpisalo. He's looked awful since his rookie year and we need to find a reliable backup who we can lean on when Bob needs rest. An upgrade at center would be nice, but I'd prefer trading wingers for one instead of simply upgrading Wennberg. That could include trading Foligno, Jenner and/or Milano. I'd prefer not trading Milano and wait for a different coach to come along who isn't completely stubborn to play him.

As for the draft, we need more picks. This is a pretty good draft in the first 3 rounds, so I'd really like to stockpile on those picks. Making another Kolesar-type trade with one of our lesser high-ceiling prospects (i.e. Bemstrom) would be great. With the #18 pick out of who I'm expecting to be available, I'd like Rasmus Kupari. I also would be happy with Bode Wilde, Akil Thomas or Martin Kaut.

The line-up I'm expecting:
Panarin - Dubois - Atkinson
Milano - Wennberg - Bjorkstrand
Jenner - Foligno - Anderson
Sedlak - Dubinsky - Abramov
Hannikainen/Stenlund

Werenski - Jones
Murray - Savard
Nutivaara - RD free agent
Kukan

Bobrovsky
Backup free agent

Also, get a new special teams coach my god

I think the only rational answer is to let the team walk to McMaynerbury. We can get a new expansion team and win a series in the first year. You know, like the Knights did

What's interesting about Bob's numbers this post season is that they were pretty much identical to his 2013-14 post season. Even though I thought there was improvement it still wasn't anywhere good enough. Only a 90% save pct. We'll see what the FO thinks.

Overall numbers:

This is a young team that is learning. No need to overreact.

1 ) Get Panarin signed long term. It will be something like $9+ million * 7 years. It will have to be the biggest contract in CBJ history. But let’s not spend all next season debating / worrying about whether Panarin is leaving.

2) See #1. If we want free agents to be interested in Columbus, signing Panarin is critical.

3) Don’t do anything stupid. Don’t buy out a player that can still play 4th line minutes or be a solid backup. Don’t overpay for a free agent. Don’t overvalue someone like Ryan Murray just because he was drafted second overall. Be smart.

4) Give the RFAs reasonable extensions. Or trade them. But make good trades. Boone should have some decent value. Murray might be better off signing for a couple of years and flipping at the deadline if he stays healthy.

5) Resign Vanek to a one year $2 mill contract if he’ll take it. Same with Letestu.

6) Defensemen are too valuable so resigning Cole is unlikely. Don’t give him a ridiculous contract like $4 mill * 5 years. Somebody else will, so let him go.

7) Talk with Tavares’ agent, and see what’s up. I doubt he’ll come here, but at least be in the conversation. A resigned Panarin certainly helps.

8) The only realistic way for Columbus to get a top center means packaging Zach Werenski. (Jones is untouchable.). It would have to be a hockey trade. I say keep Zach.

9) Don’t buy out anyone. Buy outs are generally stupid. We still have Tyutin on the books for a couple more years. Dubinsky as a 4th line center / guy who wins face offs at $5.8 mill sounds better than dead money and looking for a 4th line center.

10) I am sure injury information will leak out now that the season is over. What’s up with Werenski? Jenner? How bad is Wennberg’s back? Don’t write off the young guys who took a step back this year.

11) I like Calvert and would love to resign him. Let him test the free agent waters, but tell him we might be able to beat other teams so let us know before he signs. But don’t be stupid and overpay him.

12) Get Milano into some sort of strength program.

13) PLD should work on face offs in the offseason.

14) Have Foligno publicly state that Jones deserves to be the captain.

I’m not a huge fan of a lot of these player comments. Sounds like a lot of guys packed it in a while ago. Also, Calvert is annoying with his comments. Let all these guys walk, as far as I’m concerned.

Not being confrontational (too old and too tired) but if we don't value the player's comments aren't we ignoring the only opinions that matter? To me, the comments express legitimate complaints or frustrations of the men in the room, not the assumptions of fans on an internet forum. I don't interpret it as them packing it in but rather the coach treating them as necessary baggage in his grand, but failing, plan. No denying that it has obviously been an unhappy room which doesn't equate to antipathy by default. I sense that Tortorella's style is to mentally beat players into submission and he can be petty in his punishment for any resistance of that treatment.

Wow, JJ declined to speak with the media? That's certainly interesting on his part...

I think the writing has been on the wall for both him and Dubinsky for quite some time. I really have a feeling we've seen him put on a Blue Jackets jersey for the last time, which is sad considering he was the face of turning the trajectory of the franchise around but understandable because of the drastic, concerning dip in his play.

It might be just me but I don't necessarily think a player or group of players have much of a right to tune out a coach until they've actually accomplished something unless it is an extreme circumstance. I've seen no evidence that Torts treats his players poorly. I've never heard him say anything in the media that doesn’t have truth to it and he doesn't throw his players under the bus in post game comments. He led this team to the playoffs 2 consecutive years for the first time in history and we still can't win a damned series. They have earned nothing. Whatever they did this year is not good enough and they need to look in the mirror. If the players think they know more than the coach and aren't buying in they should probably play somewhere else. This team needs more players who hate losing with every aspect of their being. Torts preaches accountability. You perform or you sit. If you don't like it, make sure you perform.

Sounds like Maetz won’t be returning.

Seems to me like more of a post of appreciation for his job, not that he's moving on. I could be wrong though, I don't follow him.

To add on to @CBJWennberg10’s Calvert comments. Here’s the vid.

The reporters laughed and he didn't, he started his statement with a purpose to set the record straight. I don't mind it one bit from his perspective, however I still think he's being a tad sensitive.

I don't mind him not speaking. It can only bring negatives. He'll probably speak about his tenure in Columbus and a little bit of what happened when he signs with a new team. But him speaking now can only bring negatives to his value which has already taken a huge hit.

Except with Torts it's hardly perform or you sit. Many players performed and were still sat (Milano/Bjorkstrand) while others shat the bed and played nearly the entire season (Johnson). I don't know what's with him on this issue. It could be a reason why many players are fed up. I too would be frustrated if I were punished repeatedly for something while others were getting slaps on the wrist. It doesn't create a good environment.

I’m a believer in Torts but this, entirely.

Issue with Torts and accountability - how many bad shift changes did we see in the series? Who is accountable for that?
The passive penalty kill we usually played, allowed Washington to get clean shots from outside (exactly what they wanted).
The inability to adjust when Washington took Panarin out of the series.
The insistence to run 3 forward lines in many games.
Stupid penalties.
Keep JJ benched is questionable.

Yes the players should be accountable for their actions and play - but the team played like a poorly coached team for most of the series (line changes, inability to adjust on PK or getting Panarin going again), only running 3 lines. Again I'm a systems guy - loved Hitch and like Torts but don't think we progressed this season. Either Torts needs to evolve or we need change.

The bold is the only thing I don't really agree with. Panarin's injury took Panarin out of the series rather than Washington's defense/system. Would have really liked to see this series with a healthy Wennberg, Panarin and Werenski.

Whatever line combinations you want to draw up, Pooh had to be on a line with Jenner to handle face-offs, otherwise his line would be constantly playing defense to start. That is why a Bjork-Pooh-Milano line is not feasible. They would be losing 60% of face-offs and be placed into a defensive position almost immediately. Pooh "improved" in a significant way simply because he no longer took face-offs. Jenner would win face-offs and the line could start from an offensive rather than defensive position. Texier is still probably, at a minimum, two more years away (2020-2021 season). We will not advance very far in playoffs with a 2nd line center who loses close to 60% of his face-offs.
