UFA —

• Jack Johnson (4.36 AAV) - Bye
• Matt Calvert (2.20 AAV) - would love for him to stay but he may cost too much
• Ian Cole (2.10 AAV) - depends on what is being asked. He stays if less than 4 in my mind
• Thomas Vanek (2.00 AAV) - can stay on a 1 year deal for same or lower than 2
• Mark Letestu (1.80 AAV) - really wanted him to stay but was really not noticeable after his first game back. He does win faceoffs which is a much needed skill. He's a cheaper dubinsky and can stay if Dubinsky somehow finds his way out of town
• Taylor Chorney (800k AAV) - Who? - Bye
• Alex Broadhurst (650k AAV) - Broadhurtstwehardlyknewye - bye
• Jeff Zatkoff (450k AAV) - probably can stay in the AHL since we have absolutely no goalie depth in NA right now unless they find a better option as a UFA.

RFA —

• Boone Jenner (2.90 AAV) - showed the last portion of the season what he could do. 1st half boone must never be seen again. A 3 year deal to keep him 1 year into UFA for 3.5? He seems like a career 35-40 point guy historically.
• Ryan Murray (2.83 AAV) - qualify on a 1 year
• Oliver Bjorkstrand (656k AAV) - qualify on a 1 year deal. He needs to show more for more money long term.

There is no way Taveras takes a one year deal. And you plan overlooked the one obvious way of clearing money for Taveras--get rid of Wennberg and his $5 million per year. If we obtained Taveras, there would be no room for Wennberg on this team. The other way to clear cap space is to trade Savard. Those combined almost free up almost $8 million per year............ Man do we have some bad contracts !!!!

It's TAvArEs FFS! And he will get 7x10M min, if it's not sign and trade, then it's 8 years.

Well I hear they're going to trade Bob and Wennberg, so there's your money right there.

I'll be honest, the CBJ go into this offseason all in on Tavares with the understanding it is unlikely and that you are likely going to need to trade Wennberg after. The biggest issue to come of that could very well be Bob after next season.

Yes, you'll probably need to let another role player or two go. Having said that, you will have one of better groups of top six centers to go with one of the better top pairings and all still quite young. You roll that in with Panarin and you've got something.

As others have said the two things that could really make things difficult is the contracts of Dubinsky and Foligno. At least they are coming up on their M-NTC's periods. The interesting thing for Dubinsky is that he has these other issues floating around that we aren't clear on, at the same time he doesn't have a NMC next season. I know there is still a cap hit, but could we end up seeing him in the AHL in the future if there is something impacting his future? Should be interesting.

Tavares isn't coming here, I can't wait until he re-signs so this fairy tale can end.

The only UFA's I'd keep would be Cole and Calvert. Vanek maybe. I was on board with keeping Letestu because our glaring need for C's and ones that can win faceoffs, but he showed almost nothing in his return and even didn't kill penalties. The PK MUST improve next season. I think the PP has the bodies to turn itself around as is, but the PK clearly does not.

Mostly likely, however I thought it (re-signing) would have been done long ago. At this point, if he's not signed at the draft the team moves forward with the assumption he's available. That includes trying to trade for his rights.

I consider it very unlikely instead of impossible at this point; I have no delusions. I'll be honest, I had no illusions on us going after Panarin either. I'm just going to let things take its course.

Some fans are still hoping for that 3rd round pick for JJ any day now. :)

It actually could happen. Scott Darling, who was an impending UFA (think that happens June 15 for JJ) was traded to Carolina from Chicago for a 3rd after the Blackhawks season ended. I assume that Darling's agent had been given permission to speak with the Hurricanes and an agreement in principle had been reached.

And now Francis is fired :)

One move I've been toying with is Dubinsky for Kesler. Would be kinda like that Phaneuf-Gaborik deal. Two players who look done and on awful contracts. Kesler's contract is of course much worse but he's the more useful player too. He's had injury trouble too this year so maybe he could bounce back after a healthy offseason better than Dubinsky.

I don't think you are going to retain Cole for under 4.5 million for 4 years. There are plenty of teams looking and paying for defense and Cole has the career stats in key areas like plus minus. He has also been underutilized by each team he has played for. A player with a plus minus of +75 in 405 games should be seeing more ice time. Some astute coach or GM will surely covet his overall body of work.

I think that this is a realistic perspective. Bobby Ryan/Kesler-type contracts in return for Dubinsky is all one can hope for. I'd think that the CBJ would probably have to take on more money coming back than Dubinsky's contract value because, at this point, it's almost impossible to find value in his game save for faceoffs.
