“It could go to $9M… Sign Knies first and see what’s leftover… because he’s going to get offer sheeted.”

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Can the leafs media be dissolved and could the team just lose money for a while?
Players would magically sign for way less because they wouldn't have media pumping them up every second
That’s ridiculous.

No. I want more Leafs. More coverage the better. You have no idea what it's like to live in other cities and other countries. These so called "great hockey cities" cover baseball like you wouldn't believe. The GTA and the media coverage is a TML Disneyland. Don't ever change.

If he signs for $9M a year somewhere else what do the Leafs get in return? 3, 4 or 5 1st Round picks? Anyone know?

Here is what I found for compensation if he is signed elsewhere:

1st, 2nd and 3rd.

There are 13 teams that currently can offer $9m: Anaheim, Boston, Calgary, Chicago, Red Wings, Kings, Montreal, Preds, NJ, Philly, Pitts, Seattle, Utah. https://puckpedia.com/offer-sheet-tracker

If you go above $9.17m it's the same teams plus, Edmonton and LV.

This is not factoring in cap available space. Some would eliminate themselves due to cap constraints.

Why not a second team in the GTA, there are 12,000 people on the Leafs season ticket wait list. With the recent season ticket gouging, I'm sure there are some current Leaf season ticket holders that would love a cheaper option. One guy showed he was paying over $20k per year for season tickets 😲.

I think you could easily sell 19k for two barns, for every game in Toronto. NY has 3 teams, why cant Toronto have 2?

They’re more interested in taking the nhl from us and building the states clearly the right choice is Toronto but us having a third team isnt ideal for them though there’s basically 3 in ny including jersey of course

$9 Million ?

Screw that. Knies isn't worth even close to that. Call up Brisebois in Tampa and see if they're willing to swap Hagel for Knies.
No thank you to that either rather pics and a young roster player we need to get younger players fast we’re old and slow and clearly the wisdom isnt showing

Obviously, nine is too high, but I could see a sheet at that number, particularly because the compensation is just a 1st, 2nd and 3rd, which, unless it's from a team that's going to have a top 10 pick, that isn't close to good value.

It sends a message we want guys that are gonna play for the symbol on the front not the name plate at the bacc

$9 million yeah..that is a lot.

He is a very good player when playing with Matthews. Yeah, a lot of guys are good with Matthews but he is really a step up above many other that have been tried in that spot.

But on the other hand, I don't see anything special, not a ton of production when he is anywhere else in the lineup. He's not invisible away from Matthews, but nothing great.

So how much do you pay and value a complimentary piece to Matthews? A VERY good complimentary pieice, but still what I feel is only a complimentary piece? Not $9 per year yet.

The leafs make the same mistake over and over if they put bobby mcmann in the l1 left winger position after the 1.3 contract or whatever it was he signed and slotted Knies at 2l his ask wouldn’t be as much due to ice time and such you put players in a position to have career years after you have them signed basically we should have signed him as soon as he was eligible if he doesn’t want to sign limit his ice time simple Hes penalty killing he doesn’t have to Hes on pp1 he doesn’t have to be there either Hes being gifted those opportunities to drive up his price why can Ottawa get team friendly contracts and we can’t there up the street for Christ sakes

Click bait nonsense, as has been stated here by many. Only in Toronto can idiots fear-monger enuff tonget our sappy scared to death fanbase to eat it up like hotcakes - only to give ridiculous hottakes like this more oxygen. I swear we all create our own problems.

Should Leafs have inked Knies earlier??? Hell f'in yes - but it doesn't mean the worst case scenario is suddenly inevitable. Geezus.

The media in Toronto are fed by the players agent who wants to create fake demand.

If you're scared of Knies being offersheeted - just take him to arbitration. I promise you he won't be awarded 9M and you're not eligible to be offersheeted if you have a pending arb. hearing.

I guess once these guys get a taste of the Toronto money, it's never enough eh?
This is where Leafs excel ,, and why other teams hate us .. we have so many sponsors who are willing to help out our players with great endorsement deals that no other team comes remotely close to offering .. an extra $1M per makes a huge difference .. that endorsement goes away if he signs as an RFA with Chicago for instance .. many Leafs get these deals even if on a smaller scale .. in places like Carolina it is nickels and dimes as appearance fees and required as a freebie for higher paid players signing a contract with team
