God, this board keeps so many of these people paid. Everyone hears one fear mongering guest and goes crazy.

How many GOOD teams that Knies would consider leaving for have their 1st, 2nd and 3rd?
Yup. It's very funny that they never even come close to learning that these guys take these positions specifically to get them to react, which generates the desire to keep listening and creates discussion which breath's more life into the narrative they are paid to create.

I love it when these Sports jocks pull numbers out of their asses. Its like they get a thrill out of rolling out stupid contracts because they never get called on their asinine takes. Except for the Nylander deal they have been out to lunch most of the time.

Having said that the Blues last summer may be the start of a changing landscape for RFAs, just not sure anyone will offer $9M to Knies. I like him, although not as much as many here. If they cant sign him for a fair market deal I would much prefer they deal him for another position of need and avoid bidding against the market.

This market has been bled way too much because a player is "too good to let walk" or "if you trade him you will just have to go find another one". He is a valuable young player but so would be whoever he brought back. Show some nads Tre and win a deal for a change.

You ll be looking for trade partner once the team realizes he got gifted playing with marner and mathews
9 million would be assinine after watching seth jones and cozens middlestat get moved for late 1st round picks

Situation is different from those two from Oilers since Knies will be paid a lot higher than them and the compensation will be steeper.

Also, how many contending teams still have their 1st, 2nd and 3rd for 2026?

The Toronto culture effect, spend enough time around these rotten overpaid losers and you start to think of yourself as a God.

I'm just surprised the team hasn't signed a few of us to 500k-1mill, we deserve it too.
The team overpays its players so to balance the equation they overcharge the fans. It’s logical.

Well, it wouldn't surprise me if that was his ask on a long term deal. If he wasn't playing hardball you'd think a deal would have been done by now, and look at the precedent set by the me3. It was speculated awhile back that management didn't like his ask on a long term deal and that a bridge was most likely.

Another Leafs case of terrible mismanagement.

If this was the case we should've traded him for Rantanen and just paid him 12 to 12.5. Knies at 5-7 is great value and you can argue the extra player makes the difference, but Knies at 9 means we could another Kampf or another Domi lmao vs Rants at 12.

It’ll be an unpopular take, but if the aav ask is looking absurd, it’s gonna be worthwhile to see what the trade market for Knies is.

Let's not forget who he is playing with. Similar to Domi last year, he looks like an all star, take him off of the line and he is a mere mortal.

He wouldn't have these number of goals playing with anyone. Just the facts.
maybe if it was someone like Holmberg getting carried, but not Knies. He looks like a 25-30 goal sorer all on his own.

Is 25g a $9M player? The 20% shooting is in the top 10 for LW in the last 5 years. Only one player in that time is top 20 shooting percentages twice (Kreider). This is a lot less likely to be sustainable than the same goals with 13% on more shots, which is still good shooting..

I doubt he comes close to 20% every year but he was not a low volume cherry picking shooter in college so my hope when the s% normalizes down the shots will go up so the goals and points can still increase. Its tough to guess his future with only these two seasons to rely on. 25-26 will be the proof IMO. Maybe a bridge and risk getting murdered on the next deal is the best outcome. Glad its not me deciding.

9m...

Knies is coming along well, but he's put up a 44 point pace through his ELC (and maxed out at a 55 point pace this year) while playing primarily with two of the best players in the world.

9m would be insane.
Similar numbers to Laf and he got an insane $7.450M.

I think this $9 million number comes from the contracts for Lafrenière and Slafkovsky, coupled with the rising salary cap, plus the inflation that would be required for an offer-sheet to even be an option.

All of that being said, by all accounts, Matthew Knies is very happy and comfortable being a Maple Leafs, and if the team steps forward with a long-term deal in the $7.5 million range, I fully expect Knies will sign it.

The only way I could see an offer sheet even entering the equation is if they tried to nickel and dime him or pushed a bridge rather than a long term deal, and even then, I don't think it's much of a threat.

This all seems like a clickbait topic to generate interest, not a real concern for Toronto.

Knies will get $6 on a 4 year deal or $4.5 on a 2 year. His obvious comparable is Boldy and he hasn't done enough to make Boldy money even with a cap jump.

Insanity... 25 goals shooting 21%, while being the obvious 3rd wheel on the line.

On pace for less than 60 points.

Knies is overrated because he is a power forward (still a great player), that discussion was stupid.
Lol 3rd wheel on the line. He has 1.64 p/60 excluding secondary assists, while Marner is 1.62. He fights, he's huge, he hits he goes to dirty areas and he has a playoff OT goal in just two playoff seasons.
