Pre-Game Talk: [GM73] Vancouver Canucks @ New York Islanders | Wed, Mar. 26th | 4:30pm PST | SNP | Bowie William Horvat

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

He gonna be riding a sandworm next game, isn't he?

Islanders are going to be energized after losing a point to that awful ref call.
Pretty sure the refs will make sure the Islander get a bit of a break. Horrible calls.

Shut down Hughes, shut down the Canucks.

NYI are on the cusp of a playoff spot.

The result is probably another OT game.

Feels like we need to win out to have a chance the way the Blues are playing.

I don't expect us to make the postseason, but want some glimmer of hope and want to continue seeing Junior, Lekk, Mancini, Raty, Karlsson and eventually Willander continue having positive impacts in must-win games. But for that to happen, these 2 points from the NYI are must-haves.

It should be really tight either way.

Looking at games each team should win, Could come down to if they stay hot or cool down.

Hopefully the Canucks can dig deep again and eke out another victory here. You just know Horvat would love the chance to drive a dagger through our playoff hopes. Hopefully we don’t give him the chance.

Wonder if Demko starts this one again?
My guess is that they play him to death no matter how well he plays. Last night he gave up 2 dodgy goals and posted an .880 sv % and everybody here was ecstatic. Lanky posted his first real stinker of the year and is suddenly now garbage according to the Demko cult and even Silovs won his last game with an .895 sv % (everybody here says he's garbage nonetheless). The only thing keeping Demko out of the net from here on will be grievous injury; any bad games will be blamed on the rest of the team, any wins will be simply because he started. If the Canucks are smart they will send Silovs down to Abby but I predict if they do Demko will get hurt before Artie plays a game there...

Well this is certainly a measured, reasonable take.

How many times this season have we seen the weak turnover in overtime into a 2 on 1 against to lose the game? I (and mostly everyone) was fully expecting the game to end at that moment as we've witnessed so many times this season. Demko pulled some magic to shut the door when he needed to and that isn't something that our other goalies have really demonstrated. Lankinen has been solid but just talking about that extra clutch factor of elite players

My hot take is that whichever one of the Blues or Canucks get into the playoffs, they’ll go on a deep run. Either would be on a heater and playing with loads of confidence like the Kings in 2012. Very likely it’ll be the Blues, but it would be cool if the Canucks could go on a run at the end here with everything against them after everything the players and fans have had to deal with this season.

Two desperate teams. Wonder who'll be in goal. Sorokin played Monday, so maybe we get Hogberg tomorrow night.
I'm hearing that Lanks will likely play.

For tonight, GO Habs, GO Krak.

That was a big save no doubt but you can look at any of our goalies' terrible games and find great saves in them. Demko has been OK at best this year, Silovs a disappointment, and Lankinen has been our rock, easily our MVP this year IMHO.

Kinda' feel for Bo. Looks like he exchanged one tough situation in Vancouver for another on Long Island.

This Islander team is aging out--with seemingly very little in the pipeline. The Canucks, on the other hand, at least have some hope with their younger players coming up.

It's ironic really. Back in the day, Allvin had a choice to make--either re-signing Miller or Horvat. And now both are gone.

I was surprised he signed with them. He so close to hitting UFA and with his reputation as a character type leader, faceoff ace and threat from the bumper position, he would have got his bag just about anywhere.

I'm not so sure he would have. After the Isles traded their first rounder; Raty and Beauvillier to acquire him, they were hardly in a position to just let him 'walk'.

So I think Lamoriello was pretty well forced to 'overpay'. I remember at the time, him saying that $8m with term was 'tough to swallow'. But it was the price to be paid for doing business with Horvat and his agent.

As long as the Canucks shut him down and escape with two points--that's all that really matters.
