I get that the contract means the commitment is far longer with Gallagher, as he has five more years under contract versus one more year with Zucker. Yet to me, Gallagher is the better player and the idea that he would stand a good chance of thriving on another club has merit, finding himself in a new situation, playing with one of two elite centers.

I don't know. The risk that comes with the long contract likely makes it moot until such time as Gallagher is playing a good deal better, but I don't think he'd be a poor add for the Penguins. They certainly haven't seen much out of Zucker.

Habs get out of long, expensive contract for a character guy who's been underperforming for awhile, Pens switch out a winger who hasn't worked with Crosby or Malkin for a guy who might.

How Gallagher been underperforming for a while??? He's been on pace for 30+ goals in each of the last 4 years.

0 interest from the habs.
If Gallagher is traded it's for picks/prospects.

TBH neither does Zucker. Zucker hasn't really played on a stable line since hes been here. Too many injuries
Fair, but Gallagher has been a better player by far in the last 3 seasons. The OP starts talking about the decline of Gallagher and what not. Last I check he was on pace for 30+ goals last year and played injured, but was still a contributing factor shutting down opposing team top lines on a team that reached the SC finals. Yes, he hasn't been very good this year. Just like the rest of the team.

To be honest, regardless of value, the last thing the Pens need is another player with injury history that's at an age where the style they play can cause them to fall off a cliff at a rapid rate.

I'd also rather the Pens start acquiring wingers who are better playmakers rather than more wingers who are shoot-first types who don't necessarily create a bunch of chances for their linemates.

Our dumb ass coach refuses to play him with Sid. I don’t think it’s fair to say he hasn’t worked out with Sid.

What would the + need to be in the below:

Gallagher (20% retained) for Vilardi + ____

I assume it would be more than I would be willing to go.

Because several certain Habs fans need to rip your face off in every proposal they barf onto their keyboards.

In a battle of bad contracts, always take the shorter one.

I take this as a testament to my fairness.

Idk you seem pretty uninformed on Zucker to begin with. Especially with Zucker not being a "heart and soul" player.

Zucker's about a 25 goal, 50 point guy that had a down year last year. Gallagher is better, but acting like it's a complete tier level difference is laughable.
Zucker is far from a heart and soul guy
. Has good speed but incredibly soft . He played himself off the top lines in Pitt. He is far removed from any 25 goal type season. He just isn't suited for Pittsburgh and Montreal would be much worse. Habs fans would eat him alive .
Now having said that pitt would pass on that deal just for the contract reason and NOT because zucker is more valuable because he isnt

If Montreal is smoking crack, sure. But no way Zucker gets you an elite 5v5 top line winger like Gallagher.

Is Zucker a bottom 6 player now?
Absolutely correct. Once the penguins forward ls come back where does zucker play? We already established cant play with Sid or malkin.
Secondly his stats are quite similar to a third line guy. You nailed it

That had been established long ago, but it didn't stop Sullivan from playing him in the top 6.

Just like JJ being an abortion for his entire tenure here. He played regardless.

Zucker was tried on both top lines and failed miserably. He usually plays on the third line where he really doesn't fit either. Perhaps one of the softest players in the NHL as well . His name came up this week in trade rumors r9 a west coast team . I believe st louis minny and the ducks
