Zucc's facebook page says "about 3 weeks". However they link a Daily News article that says it shouldn't be long and they don't have a timetable, I don't get it.

Well, Brooksie had it at 7-10 days of NHL action, which is about the same as 3 weeks from the date of the injury. So who knows? It would be nice for the team to provide an update, but we know that will never happen.

How is giving Callahan a long term contract then having him fall apart in a couple of years, rather than potentially getting young assets that can help us for years, not franchise changing?

because by definition, we'd be staying the same? We'd be the same ole mediocre out in round 2 Rangers. I think it's just the choice of words "franchise changing" that is confusing people here, but I think we all get what you really mean. We'd potentially ham-bone any chance at getting better.

What's the point of a comment like this? How angry are you abuot NHL players in the olympics? This is the best hockey any of us will see. As a Rangers fan sure, it's upsetting. As a hockey fan, it's amazing. I consider myself both, but i love the game first and foremost. Without it, we wouldn't have the Rangers.

At least we aren't Islander fans. Even as a Ranger fan, I love Tavaras.

What pisses me off is that Zucc wasn't winning a medal in a million years. Wish he never played in these games. But who am I to say what he should and shouldn't do?

Meh. I've been very vocal about how angry I am over Zucc getting hurt, (or any Rangers players ever being hurt. I hate injuries and feel seasons are over when they happen)

And I love olympic hockey. Greatly enjoy it. However, playoff hockey is better. This tournament hasn't been great, and most of the games are massive mismatches. There hasn't been a tease of an upset until yesterday in Lativa/Canada and of course Lativa didn't have what it takes in the end.

The hockey hasnt been all that entertaining. Give me playoff hockey any day.

back on topic:

brooks reports no changes on the trade front other than what has already been circulated...

According to Larry Brooks at the New York Post, Glen Sather is believed committed to dealing Ryan Callahan and/or Dan Girardi if unsigned to a contract extension by the trade deadline.

Brooks adds that Mats Zuccarello's hand injury, unless more severe than initially reported, will not have an impact on the Rangers decision making process on Callahan and Girardi.

The NHL roster freeze expires at midnight on Sunday night, with the trade deadline scheduled for March 5th.

...if Zuccarello is lost for at least three weeks and the Rangers trade Callahan they are literally left with Rick Nash as their only legit right winger. So I'm not so sure the Norwegian's injury isn't giving Sather a moment of pause, especially if he feels the Rangers have a serious chance of getting out of the wide open Eastern Conference.

It was a joke. The Olympics aren't the NHL playoffs. The best hockey is played in the NHL playoffs. 4 rounds. 16 wins. 2 months. That separates the men from the boys. War of attrition.

That's your opinion. Of which, I strongly disagree with. That Russia-USA game, was one of the best played hockey games in recent memory.

They are all star teams, going up against each other, playing with 110% effort.

So, we don't have any real news about Zucc today, just a bunch of speculation?

Sometimes, not very often, there are some good news regarding injuries. Hopefully the examination shows so this time. Fingers crossed. If he´s lucky, he might miss only a couple games.

It is a good sign that he actually was able to finish the game, but at the same time, this could have made it worse.

The Norwegian doctor described it as a stress fracture, a small crack in the bone. He said it should heal itself in a few days, and Zucc should be ready to play by the end of the month.

Can't be 3 weeks...

They also said nothing was broken when he first got hurt. I'll wait to hear what the Rangers say.

Official word from rangers
We are pissed and not happy but still better off then the islanders lol

I just don't get where people come up with this all star team best hockey nonsense. Outside of 4 teams USA, Sweden, Canada and Russia all of the teams are a Mish mash of old, non nhlers etc.

It's like people don't recognize there are other teams besides those 4. So for teams with the luxury of choosing their squad from all nhlers you might have a point but most of the teams don't

And USA Russia wasn't some battle for the ages. It was a game settled by penalties and eventually a shoot out. I think people just see USA v Russia and start attributing all sorts if stuff to the game that really wasn't there.

I agree with the first part, disagree with the 2nd. Most teams do suck and create an almost unwatchable game sometimes. That said the US-Russia game was great, shootout or not. I'm not a shootout fan but that was pretty intense.

Yup. I love Olympic hockey, but let's be realistic: half of the teams are comprised of players that would be more at home in the AHL than in the NHL. Yeah, you get the awesome games with team like Canada, the US, Russia, Finland and Sweden, but teams like Latvia? Austria? Even Norway. It's fun to root for them against the powerhouses, but it's not much of a competition. You've got a handful of All Star teams and a handful of AHL teams. It's an exciting tournament, but until the medal round, it's not "the best versus the best."

Regardless of what it will be remembered for, USA-Russia was an unreal hockey game. Fantastic all around. Maybe you should go re-watch it. It's a shame that it will be remembered for a shootout, but anyone who is a hockey fan will know what they saw. I despise shootouts, for what it's worth.

And yes, a lot of the teams are lesser, AHL Level teams. But when you get major matchups between the power houses, those ARE all star teams. You're going to tell me Canada-USA isn't an insane high level game? did you see the final in 2010? Sometimes you have to go through fluff to be able to see the greatest things.

I don't see anyone saying (especially myself) that EVERY Olympic game is an All-Star level game. But some of the matchups certainly have been and will be in these last 4 games. No need to put words in my mouth.

The 2010 final was one of the best hockey games to ever be played.

I can live with the risk of injuries and some minor league matchups, every 4 years, to see a game like that.

And just to go back into history a little, international play has provided some of the best hockey of all time, including games with NHL'rs, when the relevancy to injury wasn't what it is today. We will never get to see a Summit Series, or Canada Cup (at least those who weren't around then), these types of matchups are the closest things we have.

I replied to this conversation because someone said it was impossible to be passionate about a team in this tournament. It does not make a difference to me if someone doesn't like the olympics. It's the same way i feel about people rooting against the rangers, it won't make me care any less. But i find it to be a shame, that hockey fans who pour their hearts out over the Rangers and watch them (and hockey) religiously can't appreciate some fantastic hockey games when they're provided.

Assuming USA gets to the final, 3 (4 if you count the Czechs) of their 7 matchups can be considered near All-Star matchups. That's not bad and provides some insane hockey, played at the highest level, some of us will ever see.

The Sweden game was a snoozer. The entire tournament consists of 5 or maybe 6 key games. The top teams don't play any meaningful games until the medal round. Maybe there's the US playing Canada or Russia in the first round. The game this morning sucked.

Sweden played a dominating 1st period, thy was finnished by a 1:40 five on three under which the Finns really bombed away. The second period was decent, 3 goals.

The Finns had no legs in the 3rd. Just couldn't give it a go.

Definitely not a bad game. Just never got that dot over the "i" so to speak... ;)

What an amazing ambassador for the game Hank is BTW. We are used to it in NY, but those insane saves he made in this game is really noticed around the hockey world.

Im just happy that the Isles got the worst of this

Eeeesh, this post seems premature factoring in that Hank, Nash, Callahan, McD, and Step are still playing in this tournament.

An injury to any of the guys mentioned would definitely have an impact on Sather's decisions down the stretch.
