Are we trading for Bustson?
Fair enough! But Power is the second softest and is softer than Hutson relative to his size.

I get the pedigree, I get the points, I get the height, I just don't really have interest in Power. Terrible defensively, softer than butter, and no competitive fire whatsoever. I think he's one of the biggest reasons that Buffalo can't escape the basement and that contract isn't one you can take a risk on.

The more I think about it, the more I understand this trade. If sharks genuinely sees Ostapchuk as that Lowry, Paul, Luostarinen type guy then great. Granted I don’t fully see it and I think Ostapchuk is more a bottom 6 character winger than long term 3C but gotta trust Grier a bit here.

Yes Zetterlund was a second liner here but on a true playoff team he should probably be your 6th best forward at best. I mean I understand not seeing Zetterlund as the future, he’s probably pretty tapped out on his value. My only thing with this trade is Grier needs to be telling the truth that this is the last deadline we truly sell, otherwise he loses all trust he’s built these last couple years.

It's a massive vote of confidence towards Ostapchuk and if he's anything like the player Grier has at least attempted to convince us they (he and his team) believe he is, this trade at least has the chance of aging like wine.

There are just so many elements to it that for me it makes little sense to be melodramatic about once you beat that initial gut check. This is one to come back to in at least a years time, if not more - merged heavily with what Grier does starting this upcoming summer.

I love that you mention Luostarinen, he's a player I would watch during Florida's cup run and just be taken aback by. Unbelievably crafty swiss army knife.

I need to watch him more closely but he's still just 22. Buffalo was already in the basement before drafting him so I don't think it's fair to blame him for their continued struggles. He was really good the year they almost made the playoffs.

He is pretty good offensively. But I don't see how he's any less "offenseman" than Brandt Clarke.

I think Luostarinen is the biggest stretch of those 3 honestly cause I think he has more natural skill than Ostapchuk but he’s so fun to watch.

But overall yes, it sucks to lose a fan favorite like Zetterlund. Dude was fun on and off the ice but I get it. We will have to wait and see on Ostapchuk but I could easily see him becoming a fan favorite as well.

Grier calling out Eklund as one of the leaders strikes me as a vote of confidence for him. He also explicitly said he wants to stop selling now and Eklund would be a huge sell.

I’m sure if we don’t get Schaefer and Eklund can bring in a #1D he’d pull the trigger but I really don’t think he’s going to go trade him for anything other than an overpayment.

I am more thinking in few years when we are still in this position. I think Grier knows people value Eklund too high to deal now, but eventually he will probably see a chance to swap him for a player whos style he likes more and I could see him doing it.

Grier also mentioned he liked Victor Eklund a lot. I understand why people are concerned but Eklund and Zetterlund are apples and oranges.

I'm just gonna put it out there but Zetterlund was awful defensively. He just was no good when reading rim plays on the boards. Basically guaranteed to screw up a couple breakouts every game.
