People in here fall in love with a prospect's pre-draft hype rather than the direction that prospect is heading in. With Dach and Newhook, you can see the tools, ability and untapped potential. They just needed opportunity and confidence. There has been very little growth in Zadina's skillset since before he was drafted.

Wings fans seems to think that he has a low hockey IQ. I would prefer giving a roster spot to one of our young guys insted.

Not that I'm advocating for Zadina, but Blackhawks fans assured us Dach was washed as well.

I'd consider a flier if there wasn't already a glut of forwards we need to ween off this team as is.

💯 % agree. I think Ylonen and RHP are both better players than Zadina. Then you add Heineman who looked great in Laval late last season. KH already has too many forwards, adding another makes zero sense.

Even if Dvorak, Hoffman, and Armia were gone, there is still no room for Zadina. Unless someone thinks he can break out like Dach and then he's ahead of Farrell, Heineman, Ylonen, Roy, RHP, etc.

We already added Newhook who leap frogs past a few young guys.

Agreed. If our prospect pool was shallow, easy decision to bring in Zadina and see how it goes. Kind of like how we added Byron, Monty, Pitlick through waivers over the years. That was when our prospect pool had less options.

No point in signing him to a 1 way contract. Only interested if he comes on a PTO and they can see if he is worth a contract.

Can’t see him signing here with the amount of forwards Montreal has. If you include Newhook and Ylonen they have 16 forwards.

I think he’ll get more opportunity elsewhere.

I don't see how he would fit in our top9 short term or long term.

Slafkovsky, Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Anderson, Newhook are already top9 guys that we probably keep for a while and then you have RHP, Mesar, Roy, Farrell, Heineman and Beck of which several should be able to be fixture in our top9 as well.

I don't think a somewhat soft scoring winger (who doesn't really score right now) is something we need.

The perfect fit would be a rich man Anderson for Caufield and Suzuki.

You named seven top nine players, and then some prospects.

If Zadina plays well, keep him and trade somebody.

If he plays poorly, whatever.

Is this a possibility? If so I’m stoked.
MSL would do wonders with this kid.

Bro holy shit lol.... hey lets throw all the problem kids at MSL, he'll fix them all, it's not like he's got a coaching job to do.

Is MSL a coach or a Psychologue? Jesus...

Players MSL is supposed to be taking care of:

Caufield
Slafkovsky
Newhook
Dach

Who's next? Zadina, Mesar, Beck???

Jesus man, he should quit coaching and open a cabinet for hockey players who are struggling in the NHL... charge 50k minimum in fees, 100 players he'll make 5 mills a year.

I’d rather MSL focus on the development of Slafkovsky, Dach and Newhook. Zadina doesn’t fit.

It’s a little amusing that a coach with very little experience and no resume gets treated like a prophet by some. At some point, he’s going to have to start getting team results on top of being a players coach. He’s not some miracle worker that can tap into any small and/or skill players potential just because that’s of what he was during his playing career. That said, I do still really like having a guy like this around at this stage of a rebuild. But I have a feeling he won’t be around long when the team takes the next step and actually has expectations.

The team went up +13 in win diff compared to the previous season despite getting just as many injuries. As a reference, +18 is what you need to pass from a ,500 team to a 100 points team.

It's significantly better and considering roster, he did bring in results. On top of most young players showing progress.

You know...
I still think Zadina can be a decent bottom six player for the right team, but I don't think that team is Montreal. Montreal already has an overflow of middle six/bottom six wingers with a bunch of young guys (Heineman, Farrell, Roy, Mesar) who will be trying to make the roster in the next couple of years. Montreal has no room and should focus on developing who they have already, meanwhile Zadina is probably looking for a more concrete/guaranteed position then what the Habs should be able to offer him.

I think MSL is the kind of coach that could be really good and beneficial for a certain personality type, and just not work well at all for others. And I think Hughes knows that and has been targeting players that are particularly coachable.
True he was only able to get an aggregate of about 5 minutes of good play out of Gurianov. From all we've heard about Zadina he probably isn't particularly coachable either.
