Zach Werenski should be considered for the Norris?

I'm in on Werenski for Norris, or at least Werenski for Norris finalist.
 
This might actually be the first time the Jackets have had sustained ppg play from multiple players, not just one superstar blowing everyone else out of the water, dragging a few guys on the list with him.

Are we so sure of that? Makar has 4 more points and is the third highest point getter on his team, with 2 of the top 3 highest guys in the league leading the way. Werenski is the #1 play driver on the entire team, a team that was expected to be a lottery team, not contending for a cup like Colorado.

If Makar finishes with ahead with sizable gap between them, sure. But if it's tight? I think Werenski gets the nod.

imo werenski has be the clear cut favorite to win. makar will win any tiebreaker by reputation. now that the avs actually have a goalie i think all his metrics will improve and he'll be able to contribute more offensively. his health will be the biggest concern.

I think it’s when the play doesn’t show up in the obvious stats that the voters can sometimes take longer to clue into. It’s hard not to take note of this level of production and voters typically reward it. If things stay similar to now, I’d bet he’ll end up top 3 with Makar and Hughes.

Obviously I'm a homer, but if things stay similar to now, I don't see any way he doesn't win. When you compare the rosters around those three, what Z is doing is by far the most impressive.

Columbus has a sneaky good offense. They have scored as many goals this year as Colorado has. Granted, Werenski is a big part of that, but I think Hughes has done the heaviest lifting of the three top candidates.

How do you figure? Before the start of the season Petterson and Miller were easily considered better than anyone on the CBJ roster and the CBJ were very much considered to be a lottery team. And nobody on the roster was even being discussed as a possible PPG player except for Gaudreau....

Hughes: 47 points
Next highest D: 12 points

What does that have to do with what has actually transpired this season?

Now look at Vancouver: Vancouver Canucks 2024-25 NHL Regular Season Skating Stats - ESPN

Columbus might be punching above their weight, but that shouldn't take away from the fact they are one of the better scoring teams in the leagues. Regardless, I have Werenski in my top three for Norris. I just think Hughes has the been the best.

I think the discussion about surrounding talent has more to do with the Hart trophy (the player who is most valuable to his team) rather than the Norris. If two Norris finalists are neck and neck in terms of production and impact, then I think surrounding talent may be a consideration.

For Werenski, I certainly think he's a top-3. That said, if the season ended today, it's hard to argue that Quinn Hughes wouldn't win when considering all around play and production. Then you have Makar and Werenski (Makar has better production but I haven't seen enough of his all minutes play ((he's #3 in TOI/G)) to see if he has an edge over Werenski ((#1 in TOI/G))).

That's 2 words. And Hutson would honestly be behind Morrissey and Fox right now for the Norris given they have slightly better production despite logging more difficult minutes each game. In fact, I think Montreal is relying more heavily on Matheson right now.

Hutson could be top-3 in Calder voting though. I'd expect Celebrini to take that though.
 
I think he comes in 3rd. He's having a monster season, but you know damn well Hughes and Makar are gonna get the majority.
