its the pendulum swinging the other way. Oiler fans eat so much shit here on the mains. People tell us all the time that we will regret certain players, that we suck, that we cant win, that a minior losing streak is a sign we suck. We have people in the mains GDT using every little thing to put us down.

Soooooooo

if youre gonna dish it, your gonna eat it. Dont want to see this stuff? a) ignore oiler fans, b)stop talking shit about us.

That is any Canadian market fanbase on the main boards to be honest.

Much of the hate for this guy is anti-semitism. The typical "oh rich Jewish guy buying up everything" kinda nonsense. He had advantages of course, but are we going to pretend that all the sons of millionaire NHL players getting drafted every year had to bootstrap their way through youth hockey as underdogs? Nah, they were all fast tracked onto the best teams, had special access to the best coaches and facilities, extra ice time, etc. Hockey is a rich kid sport and because of its more technical nature also one where having the right connections goes a long way.

Said no one ever. Who are you quoting here? Or just creating a straw man argument as many here tend to do

He's the heart and soul of the Oil. Brings it every shift and every game. Not too shabby for the "worst contract in NHL history".
Wasn't the popular discourse was that he would be out of the league in 3 year because of the style of hockey he was playing.

True hockey player and the epitome of a top line complimentary player.

He didn’t get “snubbed” by Team Canada. Form and health play a part in selecting rosters for tournaments.

I mean, great for him and the Oilers if he’s using some fake narrative as motivation - most of the great do it…but snubbed? Nah. Not when you have the array of talent Canada has to pick from.
I'd argue chemistry is just as important in roster selection as talent is in these short tournaments

Ah, so you're quoting one random Twitter account with 1k followers and acting like this opinion is held by a large percentage of hockey fans or somehow important in any way? Actually you're misquoting him not that it matters.
I’m not misquoting him in a substantive way. And his take was not unique at the time. It was the opinion of many in the Leaf’s community that it was a bad contract. The main reason cited is that his legs would fall off at some time due to injury history and no one predicted he would produce as much as he has during this contract.

they'll never get it. They'll just keep moving the goalposts, going from "no one said that" *shows proof* "oh thats nothing, hes just some guy* to "so what"

That take was very prevalent around here during the offseason we signed him, it was even brought up when he got off to his unlucky start.

I can guarantee if I dig I could quote many around here who said similar. In fact even a year or two after the contract they’d still be saying it, in the slim hopes that it becomes true.

Let's not act like Leaf fans weren't all over talking about it as a bad contract and using it as evidence of Dubas being smart for not extending him.

I would rather no Oilers played in this, it’s a pointless tournament that only increases wear and tear on guys.
Same. Was sad when Ekholm and Arvidsson got picked for Sweden. Hope McDavid stubs his toe or something so he can't go, but I know there's no way he'd pass up finally being able to play for Canada. Tournament probably ends up being a glorified all-star game anyways though so hopefully nobody gets hurt.

I think the majority said the price was ok but the length was a pretty major risk at the time. I mean, it was a reasonable concern given his age and injury history. Good on Hyman for vastly outperforming it so far.

Oh, really? So I see that you've been here since 2017. You're telling everybody that you haven't seen the amount of leaf fans yapping about how glad Hyman was gone because he couldn't get it done with the leafs in their playoffs, that Michael Bunting would replace him easily, how Hyman's past injuries would have him fall off quickly into his long term signed contract with the Oilers? Don't kid yourself. Get off your high horse.

That 5.8% was coming off his stick, no?
Yeah sure. But you look at the quality of chances and past results and you know it's going to correct and it has.

I smell the insecurity from all the way here.
Jeeeeez
It was a joke post referncing that lame Montreal writers rich dad complaint lasy year. The post is meant to give Hyman his deserved flowers. He's battling through a broken nose and playing well after a tough start.

I think this tournament is a joke I have not talked to one person who even talks about it lol. The only convo that is had is "when is this thing?" and "I just hope nobody gets hurt"

Glad Hyman is not on there. Wish McDavid got sick or something and stayed home too. It means nothing

Onto your point. It is hilarious that the GM talked about chemistry with his D pairings yet ignores how much chemistry Hyman has with McDavid.....Some interesting choices.

I’d say defensive pairing chemistry and communication is harder to replicate in a short time period and more important than being the glue winger for McDavid. Especially if the plan is to tilt ice time to McDavid’s line when you can tack an even better glue guy goal scorer like Reinhart next to him.

Canada B would be a medal contender (minus goaltending maybe) - there’s no shame in not making the selected roster - not one of the forwards selected is undeserving. Hyman didn’t get screwed or snubbed, he just didn’t get picked (this time).
