My worry is the contract he will get, and not 100% sure he is a driver or a driver light. I like him as a player, but he will be getting monster money and not sure he will do that apart from fellow high end/elite players. If he is just 80 ish pts, I don't think he will be worth the contract. Not opposed completely to getting him, just think there will still be moments where you will be frustrated he isn't worth the money.

Will say I have always been against trading Larkin, but I am more for it at this point. Yet another season with no playoffs, he will be yet another year older on a body that has been roughed up enough without playoff games. I think age wise, it might be better to move him for someone closer to Seider and Raymond age. Not sure who necessarily, but Larkin is only going to slow down, and we aren't moving forward enough that I think it is necessarily worth keeping him. Not blaming Larkin for no playoffs as this team is pretty crappy aside from the top 5-6 guys.

While Kasper has been good, he still is only going to hit 30ish pts in his first season which isn't horrible, but also isn't amazing either. If Ed, Kasper, Danielson, Cossa and ASP don't light it up soon (next year/year after) for Detroit, then we are in needing to start over with rebuilding.

All in all a very frustrating season, with very small little things to be happy about.

You brought up Laughton for no reason at all, so I’ll show you we can do the same for players who were acquired for very little who are doing well.

Yzerman figured the best action plan was to acquire a bad goalie. Look how that’s working out for us?

I don’t. But he’s been helping his team win games. Yzerman could have had him for a 4th.

Instead he kept essentially the same team, and we have like the worst record in the NHL since the deadline lol.
 
What do people think about trying to acquire a younger, underperforming player? One guy who caught my eye is Cole Sillinger with Columbus. He's currently on injured reserve so I don't know how long he will be out. He was a strong point producer in juniors, but was put in the NHL probably too soon and has struggled to get quality ice time due to all the skill the Blue Jackets have acquired with a boatload of lottery draft picks.

The main idea here is to add scoring depth with perhaps some upside of being a middle 6 guy. His scouting report indicates he's got a really good shot, but his skating is a bit of a concern. While he's not a bruiser, he's comfortable with physical play. Also credited with decent two-way play.

I'm not sure how much it would cost to acquire him, but if the cost was reasonable it seems like it could be a good hockey trade. He'll be 22 next season and has one more year under team control before he hits RFA status.

It’s what people also said about Tyson Barrie at a point in his career.

With Hughes and Makar you could see future greatness. I don’t see that out of Hutson in the same way. I don’t see elite, franchise cornerstone level traits standing out.

Your argument has so many fallacies its too much to unpack dude. Jankowski is playing with a much better team than Detroit and is scoring at a first ballot hall of famer pace in the absolute smallest sample size possible lol. He is also very injury prone and has never scored more than 17 goals in a season or played 82 games! He is a plug! And you are using this example to argue something Yzerman should have did? He is the reason we aren't winning?

I’ll give out a thoughtful response as to why, but it’s this;

Reinbacher (he’ll play 22+ minutes a night in all situations. I expect him to be similar to Hanifin in terms of impact. Maybe as good as McAvoy.)
ASP/Cole
Cole/ASP (and it sucks that the caps have him)
Lane
Levshunov (there’s some Jiricek in his game. I don’t like that)

Do you understand THE MARKET DICTATES THE PRICE? You want impact players for dirt cheap with term and youth. Like this isn't NHL 25 like the player stats you quoted earlier.

Depends on the price. I'd certainly, as they say, kick the tires.

And yet here you are, using the same sample size to judge Toronto for the Laughton trade… funny how that works eh?

marner defn is a line driver 100% but he is going to get paid 15x7.

doesnt strike me as a SY move n tbh its a ton of money even tho marner is excellent.

I don't think he will get 15. Rantanen signed for 12 and they are somewhat comparable statistically. I know Rantanen didn't hit UFA, so Marner will get more, but I don't think someone is giving him 15. I also don't think he will get much more if even that, then Matthews. I think it will be 12.75-13.75.
