D-Mac basically saying the owner is not giving Stevie the full license to improve the team.

If you follow the Tigers fans have been saying the say thing Chris Illitch is very cheap and nothing like his father. For comparison:

I can't say I am super warm to Chris, next generation billionaires tend to be putz's lol

But I don't really feel this is true. Stamkos was not a must sign. I mean people complain about how old Larkin is. Stamkos is going to be retiring before this team hits it's stride. When a player is a must sign it will happen. I mean Yzerman also has a long standing professional relationship with Stamkos meaning its even more likely Stamkos would have held out to see Yzerman's final offer. LOL how many Stamkos signing situations is this team going to have. Podcaster's just manufacturing something to talk about.

This isn't a podcast is a sport talk radio show and Darren McCarty whom I believe should have some inside scoop on is basically saying the same thing. It isn't not just Stamkos it's the fact that Chris Illitch is putting breaking on Yzerman essentially not letting him do what he needs to do.

A friend of mine has a sibling who is involved in marketing for the Wings and works out of LCA and they claim everything from top to bottom went to shit when Chris took over. I didn't hear it from the horses mouth, I don't know it its entirely true, but from the outside looking in I'm inclined to believe there is some truth behind it. Sheila Ford Hamp seems like a great owner and the Lions are the best team in the NFL. Chris is potentially a dud and the Wings are hot garbage at the moment. Did hell freeze over and I happened to miss it?

McCarty is clearly commenting as a fan and isn't even claiming to have real knowledge on what he's commenting on.

Now, if we want to talk about the actual report from Terry Foster and if that has validity and if we should give a shit about it or not, that's a different story

It's DMac going to bat for the chump who is assuming this. Dmac has no inside info, Yzerman isn't talking to DMac.

I dunno if you guys have tried to listen to that show before but it's rough. DMac is kinda nutty.

I had it on earlier and one guy said we should've gotten Ian Cole ya know a 35 year old guy. One said Edvinsson was like Trouba, who also was the same guy who made up the Ekblad rumor in the summer.

I am not saying Chris Illitch is a good owner, but the differences in MLB and NHL finances make it hard to group them together as evidence he is cheap.

Owners can spend all they want in MLB, as long as they can afford it. Can't do that in hockey.

The main question is. Is Chris Illitch allowing Steve the freedom to make moves? It would make sense if he wasn't.

In the NHL they also have to spend to a certain amount. I think that floor is a virtual guarantee Ilitch won't be cheap with the Wings. There is nothing to gain from it, and the difference between spending the floor and spending an extra $20m is pretty inconsequential. What might get interesting is if the Wings go out of their way to abuse LTIR the way other teams have when they've been at the top.

The MLB is just a different beast. The hope has to be that he'll spend on guys we draft.

Did Terry say this on Woodward sports or is Woodward sports saying that Terry said this, I haven't seen specifically what he supposedly said.

It also makes no sense given that with the possible exception of Lou, SY is the most guarded GM on specific transactions in the league.

If it is true i would consider the fact that SY let it out as huge news, but I am very skeptical. We are spending to the cap after all.

Pretty sure this is where it all originated:

Terry never specifically mentions that he talked to someone, but I trust him enough that I don't think he's pulling it out of his ass. I still personally think this is nothing and I don't really care.

(and please don't get confused and think that I am aware of this because I listen to this garbage)

The movement Yzerman feels ownership is an obstacle is the moment he will leave. Probably half a dozen teams that he could start working for tomorrow if he made the call. Guy has always swung for the fences I doubt he is looking for a comfy country club.

The Wings are currently $4mil under the cap. At the start of the season (prior to the Maata trade) they were ~$800k under. Chris may like pinching pennies, but I don't see where that came into play going into this season.

Now, 3 years versus 4 years? That 4th year at $8mil might not age very well. For Nashville, who is in win-now mode, they probably don't care what that 4th year looks like. For Detroit, who is not in a win-now window, that 4th year could be a real liability.

The two biggest questionable things about this story for me are:

It's hard to believe Yzerman doesn't have parameters from ownership before going into negotiations like this. 4 years isn't exactly an unexpected ask from Stamkos's camp.

2). I find it extremely hard to believe there was "never a response" from ownership to the GM of the hockey team they own.

HaHa love the disclaimer and thanks for the reply.

Just remember the 99% of garbage we have to get through on the internets is worth the 1% that keeps us coming back. Come to think of it sounds like my golf game
