It's impossible to tell. It's too early.

I mean, Jason Spezza was 4th in league scoring 3 years ago. Ray Whitney and Patrick Elias were top 12 in scoring.... too much can change in that span.

Yep. When the 2010 Olympics were going on, Justin Faulk was seen as a solid 2nd round prospect for that summer's draft. Not even four years later he was on team USA.

There are so many prospects that could emerge. Guys under the radar (ala Trochek, Grimaldi, Santini, Gostisbehere) that nobody ever talks about but could be regualr players on their team by then while guys like Backes, Oshie & Kesler might be the shadows that they were kind of like Mike Richards.

Only locks would be Suter, Kessel and Kane I'd say. 4 years is too far away. You don't even know if guys like Getzlaf and Perry will be there for Canada, as they could be pushed out by younger guys like Johansen and Mackinnon.

The one thing that looks good for the states is their D. McDonagh, Suter, Trouba and Jones is a solid top 4, with guys like Hanifan and Fowler likely emerging around then.

On Olympic-size ice I really have to think Gaudreau will be in there.

The guy's on nearly a PPG pace as a rookie and is one of Calgary's best defensive forwards.

On a smaller ice surface I could see the argument for him not being there, but if he continues to progress I'd have to think he gets serious consideration.

Highly doubt Suter will be left off the 2018 roster. Even if he's not playing (which is highly unlikely), he'll be there as a 7th D at the least.

My 2018 roster should current trends and projections continue (they definitely wont though):

Gaudreau - Eichel - Matthews(A)
Saad - Galchenyuk - Kane
JVR - Kesler(A) - Kessel
Pacioretty - Johnson - Pavelski
Nelson, Milano

Hanifin - Jones
Suter(C) - Trouba
Fowler - DeAngelo
Faulk

Quick
Demko
Gibson

Notes/Thoughts: Matthews has been playing (or at least is listed as) RW this year. Demko has been touted as a "big game goalie" akin to Jonathan Quick.
The team off top appears completely more talented than the 2014 team, every line possesses some type of two-way skill and much offensive talent.

Here's who I would look at in four years (positions are obviously off):

Goaltenders (x3):

Jonathan Quick
Cory Schneider/Ben Bishop
John Gibson

Defensemen (x8):

Ryan Suter/Ryan McDonagh
Justin Faulk-John Carlson
Jacob Trouba-Keith Yandle
Kevin Shattenkirk-Cam Fowler

Forwards (x13):

Joe Pavelski-Alex Galchenyuk-Max Pacioretty
Zach Parise-Derek Stepan-Patrick Kane
Phil Kessel-Tyler Johnson-JVR
Brandon Saad-Nick Bjugstad-Kyle Okposo
Blake Wheeler

Ever heard of a prospect?

Why are some people just completely forgetting/leaving out John Carlson? He's only 24 right now, he's Washington's top defenseman, and plays QB on arguably the best powerplay over the past calendar year. He's already got 20 points this year and he's on pace for 12 goals, 61 points, and a +24 this season.
