So we keep Eakins for at least two years? Was that the plan? And we're sticking to it?
Hypothetical, no chance but what if we lose every game here out? Then we'd have to fire him surely. But that won't happen...
What if he leads us to dead last? Got to at least consider it. Well friends we are nearly at the bottom, to me if you hit 30th in the NHL after 50 games you have to consider a coaching change, simple as that.
There has to be a line drawn. Firings happen cause they have to, not because you plan for them.
Fire Eakins today.

I wonder if Ron Wilson would accept a job as an assistant coach or something? He's out of work but he favors an offensive system. He could probably help out our PP and get it going, while also offering Eakins some advice.

Snice MacT has invested way too much of his acumen and pride in the hiring of Eakins I doubt he'll get fire before maybe the midpoint of next season. Unless ofc MacT is fired, which won't happen unless Lowe is fired, which won't happen because him and Katz are old party buddies.

So Eakins will stay. In that case I'd hope for one of three scenarios, all involving getting rid of all the ass. coaches:

Eakins is demoted to assistant coach. A solid veteran coach is brought in as head coach. For the other two assistant positions I'd bring in guys who are known for being good development coaches for Ds and fwds respectively, where they come from I don't care be it CHL, college, NHL, AHL or europe, try to find the best of the best available. The latter goes for all of my scenarios.

Instead of demoting Eakins you try to bring in a good vet coach as his assistant, if he craps the bed next year, the vet takes over.

And the third option, Eakins stays as hc. Nelson is brought up as his assistant due to him being well liked and respected by the players, also at least I think he's a pretty solid coach. I know he's not that high on another assistant position but the deal is, if Eakins screws up, he gets promoted to head coach for an interim period of at least some 30 games. If he gets results he stays. If he doesn't a more experienced coach is brought in. The positive for Nelson is, if the team does well with him as the new assistant, it will look good on him. If the team does bad, he will get his shot as a head coach in the NHL, if the team starts doing well he looks like a genius, if it doesn't he gets the benefit of the doubt from taking over Eakins mess and he can add some NHL head coaching experience to his CV making it easier to get another NHL job knowing the incestuous nature of the NHL.

Eakins gets fired, thus sending him into a downward spin of depression and binge eating. After years of plugging KFC and Mcdonalds, eakins turns into a fat monster. Becomes play by play guy for some ECHL plug. After that he opens a local gym to better himself and the story of dodgeball the underdog story is complete with Eakins.

Part of me wants to pity Eakins for all the flack he's getting but his pre-seasons banter never came to fruition, all the accountability BS that he ranted.

He deserves what he's getting. If he was more humble, I reckon some fans would feel bad for him but noooooope.

I wonder what would happen if the crowd started a fire Eakins chant every home game from here on in.

There would be a one year ban on the fans who chanted and because of cameras everywhere the stands end up empty. For a whole year.

They signed him for 4 years so I think the plan was he stays around that long. The problem with firing him is that we've fired so many coaches and it's done so little to improve the team that it seems like firing another one wont give us any better results. Constantly changing the coaching hasnt done anything for the organization so why do we think changing it up again is suddenly going to work this time. If anything it's hurt the team, prevented the players from developing some consistency.

Really if it comes down to firing another coach then it's time to look at management. MacT and KLowe are proving they cant hire good people.

This gif really needs context. I didn't watch the game, so I can't provide it, but...

Probably Eakins just doing more damage to his relationship witht he refs. Remember his "pick up the phone" crap? Being a sarcastic jerk is not the way to get refs on your side.

I think he is just so flustered that he let out his inner t-rex. He would probably be very embarrassed if he saw that

He strikes me as a guy that will live and die by his system. Rather than adapt it to the players he has, he'd rather go and get the players that will fit it.

Case 1: I noticed that his system is geared to block passing lanes, and try to force turnovers.

What the other teams were doing to get around that is to force pucks on net. This means you need a goalie who has excellent rebound control.
Dubnyk doesn't.
Any goalie the Oilers bring in, could be much worse than any we've had, but if they have good rebound control they'll look much better in our system.

Secondly, to me, hockey is a real simple game in that, whichever teams wins the races to the puck, and puck battles will win the hockey game.

Eakins system doesn't use our team speed effectively. He wants to slow it down, and force puck battles, win them and then breakout.

What he should be doing is have our team win the races to the puck, so the battles are limited.

Also hurting us, is special teams, but not by a lot. Last year we had great special teams. If we were the same % on PP and PK as we were last year, we'd have only about 5 more goals for, and 5 against, which would probably mean 5 more wins than we currently have, but nothing crazy.

RNH just looks like he lets out a depressive sigh when he hears master Eakins speak. LOL
