I'll bet ~20 games or so into the new season. If there is another poor start, but he has to be replaced with a proven veteran NHL coach. Jacque Martain or Peter Laviolet (sp) someone that has a track record at the NHL level. Look at philly, they hire and fire guys until they get the "right " coach.

well, that would make sense. so....... i doubt it.

If Yak gave the puck away like Ebs just did he wouldn’t see the ice unless it was in his vodka. Yet Ebs keeps getting tossed over the boards

If you don’t play my way and the right way you won’t play” Dallas Eakins. Well guess what Dallas the kids are eating your lunch just like They did to all the other coaches they’ve had. If you punish Yak and call him out you better not look the other way when 4 and 14 mess up

Eakins is a total joke but I wonder if the directive to treat the golden boys with kid gloves comes from higher up?

I think Katz and his boyz have made it clear the kids are completely untouchable. Plus Katz is signing off on these nice fat long term contracts like he gave to his buddy Horc.

Regarding the tweets though, kind of ironic that the brother (think I saw that this was Nick's brother) of possibly the worst performer per dollar player on the team has so much negative stuff to say about everyone on the team, except Nick of course :). That twitter account is gone now after all his crap tweets bashing almost the entire team were pulled up again for everyone to see.

Exactly to the above. His treatment of players is riduclous. Case and point look at how he handled Sam Gagner when he got back. The leash was so long that it drove a very capable player who was second in rookie points, Arcobello onto the fourth line. Gagner was/is making huge mistakes all over the ice yet he gets primed minutes.

Eakins is a joke. The faster we get rid of his arrogance and ego the better this organization will be.

Despite the OT win he's still terrible. How many post games can Gagner use the old 'we weren't happy with our game early on'.

These last 10 games are terrible for the team. Not only are we getting points, it is going to reinforce MacT's notion that Eakins is the right coach.

Seems like Eakins can do no right on here. The Oilers are 7-2-2 and winning and he still gets no love. Yes most of it has to do with solid goaltending and they're still not playing full 60 minute hockey, but lets give the man a break here.

Is that right? So what is MacT doing up in the pressbox every time this team plays, crosswords?

We haven't improved at all. Goaltending is the only reason our record in our last 11 games has been good. Once goaltending comes down to earth, we will be losing again. Our former players also criticizing our practices should be a huge red flag. First Smid, then Trotz calling out Dubby, then Bryz and now apparently Nick Schultz said something too? Just brutal. Maybe once we let Bucky and Smith go and get some former vet coaches, we will start seeing some improvements. But as of right now, this team hasn't improved under Eakins and he is in way over his head.

Yep. Biggest thing, IMO, that illustrates Eakins messed things up [aside from his biases] is how F'd up our PP is. It used to be a weapon, now, it's something we don't want:laugh:

the only excuse I can give him (and I'm reaching, I know) for the PP is, maybe, he's forcing the 1-3-1 because the games don't matter, and it is the system he sees them using in the future. Any buffoon can see that this team isn't ready for a very complicated PP that is dependent on being mistake-free. If they were in a play-off race, would they be forcing this obviously unsuccessful strategy? I'd have to think no.

if this isn't the reason, then the man is a complete moron.

as for the practices. i think not having anything to play for, along with watching their management team leave them high and dry every year, has a bit to do with it.

Yeah, we might be winning but the team looks awful. Over 60 games in and I'm still looking for any kind of systemic play. I see nothing we do consistently. Not in our breakout. No clear idea how to get through the neutral zone. Completely random zone entries. I haven't seen any kind of set plays offensively, defensively it's chaos. There seemed to be some idea or plan how the team went about the forecheck to start the season but that's pretty much gone.
The only part of the game where there's any consistency is how the players position themselves on the PP, no set plays and no success whatsoever, but at least the set up seems to stick(other than last game where they started playing with 2 D men after yet another SH against).

How many games have we started with one set of lines and swapped around before the first period is over? If it's happening once or twice it's active coaching, if it's happening every other game it's either terribly planned or just a complete lack of a gameplan.

The team is in total disarray. The players aren't develpoing individually, the only ones who looks improved are the guys coming out of OKC. Last night it looked horrible until a couple of rushes from Hall and Marincin got the team going and the team seemed to just have fun with it.

The comments from and about former players is just extra icing on the cake. If it was one guy saying stuff you could claim it's bitterness or what not. But when pretty much every player leaving has something negative to say about how things are run it's too much smoke for it to not be a fire.

Either Dallas is some kind of genius with a masterplan that's hopeless to understand or this whole coaching staff is just a massive hockeydisaster.

If Eakins coaching strategy is to let the other team pepper out goalie with shots while the offence plays possum for the first 2 periods then he deserves the Adams trophy.

MacT isn't some mental midget he's watching the same games we are.

For preaching being a fitness first coach, having low tempo ineffective practice is unacceptable. Practices are a great tool for self improvement and if we aren't taking full advantage of them that's a big red flag.

Secondly the fact that I would prefer to decline the powerplay on most occasions given the sheer amount of skill we have on this roster speaks volumes.

The current coaching staff has short-comings what MacT has to determine is, if changes to the assistants or associate coach can fix some our weaknesses or if we have to drop the axe on another head coach. MacT has pretty outspoken about the group needing stability and we can't just keep the coaching carousel going, but it is every bit as dysfunctional employing someone who has proven themselves unfit for the job. MacT was quick to cut ties on players he signed like Labarbera and we buried Grebs and his one way contract in short order when he didn't cut mustard, also advised Gagner that he wanted to trade him in the 1st year after signing him. It's best not to make mistakes in the first place, but I'm glad we have a GM that only looks to improve the team, public perception and having a little bit of egg on his face are entirely secondary concerns. Now while it might appear to be comical to see how many goalies we cycled through over the course of a year, I don't think there are any Oiler fans who would argue our goaltending group now isn't improved over what we had to start the year.

Funny. My concern is that MacT would ruin this team(if its not already ruined) to prove that he made the right decision to hire Eakins. Out of all the moves he's made this year hiring him has been the fatal flaw.

fosho. all you have to ask is: if you didn't have the past history of 3 coaching changes in 3 years, would his performance justify keeping him? If the answer is yes, then this organization sees losing as a good thing.

the one and only reason he is still employed is because of the Renney and Kruger firings.

I look at players like Gordon, Ference, RNH, Belov, a lot. When a coach succeeds in making thinking players look stupid on the ice you wonder whats going on. You wonder what this confused mess is and where it emanates from.

Centers like Nugent Hopkins and Gordon didn't forget how to play hockey. They're out there confused by systems that don't allow them to play the game in a way that makes sense to them.

I'll add to the chorus as well that it doesn't take much more than 10 games to learn a system. if the system works. When it doesn't what you see is continued break downs in system as players innately try to save the day playing sensible hockey.

No surprise at all that the best this club has ever looked is playing in front of professor scrivens who barks out cover orders. Interesting that when the players are listening to scrivens in own zone they withstand better.

When a coach succeeds in making every single player, the assistant coaches, the gm, the locker room attendants, the medical staff, the front office people, the mgmt, the fans, and everyone else who wears an Oilers logo look stupid you wonder what more he could possibly do to lose his job.
Fixed. ;)
