Speculation: your team's trade deadline needs

As an Oilers fan

I will try to convince you that I really really need another bottom 6 winger and a 4th mostly offensive minded defenseman so we can avoid the hard and honest discussion about the holes in our net.

Edmonton needs Petterson from the Penguins and Jonathan Toews to be in good enough shape to play 3rd line C. Probably don't need Toews for special teams.

We don't need a goalie. It goes against our team philosophy.

We will suppress enough shots and get enough offensive chances that it will negate the goaltending advantage that other teams have.

We might get another goalie in the coming years, but I'm convinced that we're committed to the current status quo on this topic

The Leafs need a player who can play 2LW and 3C. We need a left-handed 20 goal 50-55 point guy with grit and decent defensive skills. Who is available?
Crosby would be a dream play him with Matthews and Marner then slide Knies down to 2LW

Flyers

Trade Risto & Laughton to the highest bidder.

That's the list.

That's Scott Laughtons music. Berube coached him before too.

I have had my eye on him for yrs, does he still have it in him?
I also think he would be awesome between Domi and McMann and Patches plays 2LW but when he needs a break Laughton can slide up type thing

Yes he would be a great fit there. Also an excellent PKer and a shorthanded threat. Very affordable too and has 1 year left on his deal so you get him for 2 playoff runs.

I'm starting to wonder if there is a tiny chance we go for a Crosby rental over Laughton or somehow get both but I can't see how
Assets going out would be Robertson 2026 1st, 2nd, prospects like Voit, Minten maybe? Cowan but I get the sense their really high on him.
not all, those are just our movable pieces of value

Actually Nylander becomes the 2C. They need a 3C that is better than Domi who is better as a playmaking winger than a center. Someone like a Granlund, or Nelson or even Laughton would be perfect in that role. Imagine a line up of

Marner Matthews Knies,
Tavares Nylander McMann,
Domi, Laughton/Nelson Paches
Holmberg kampf dewar

with multiple guys who can step in and out like jarnkrok, Robertson etc?

I’d be extremely happy with that lineup to start the playoffs

Add a good #5 dman to the mix and the Leafs are definitely one of the 4 or 5 favorites.

Nylander hasn't played 1 second of center this year. Tavares has been hurt and the 2C has been Kampf and Holmberg. Not good enough

Yes he has, and he has played a lot of center throughout his career. Ha actually is a pretty good center, but he is a star winger.

Pitt is never trading Crosby.

Flyers would love to add Cowan since we have his teammate Denver Barkey in the system, but that might be too much for just Laughton. Id be happy with just your 1st...even if its 2026 1st.

For the Ducks, I'd say:
Will be moved-
Fabbri
Dumoulin
Lundestrom (probably)

Those are probably the ones that will be moved for picks.

Needs would be top 6 forward. Ducks can't score. We can't trade for a better coach, so that's not a deadline thing.

Could be available for the right price-
Draft picks (including a top 2 protected 1st, currently 5th overall)
Prospects not in the NHL except Sennecke and probably Luneau and Solberg
MAYBE Zellweger (the defense is pretty loaded and he probably is the least "Verbeek" D)

Young pieces/picks would only be used for young players. Ducks need an upgrade at forward. They just can't score goals. Going forward, Ducks have:
RW- Terry, Sennecke, Colangelo
C- Carlsson
C/LW- McTavish, Zegras
LW- Gauthier

He's really not. Not sure why you are arguing with a Leaf fan about this. He has been tried at center last 3 or 4 years and it has lasted a game at most (this year it was like first 3 days of camp). Neither Keefe or Berube think Nylander is a center.

The only way they use him is on strong side draws and after he immediately switches back to playing wing

:devils

Needs:
#3 center
Middle 6 winger

They need someone like Coyle, Dickinson, Nelson, Backlund, Laughton, Cates, Pageau or Gourde. And one winger who can play in the second or third line.

Trade baits:
3 x 2nd (EDM, WPG, NJD)
3rd (VGK)
Cam Squires, Matyas Melovsky, Topias Vilen, Chase Stillman or other b/c prospect

Trade baits for a scoring winger or center who have term left:
1st (2026)
Dawson Mercer (only for upgrades)
Seamus Casey
Lenni Hämeenaho
Arseni Gritsyuk

In order
Someone who doesn't suck at defense to play next to Slavin
A 2C

Trade bait:

Probably the usuals who were in the Vancouver rumors. KK, Roslovic, draft picks depending on incoming player. Maybe a forward prospect, again, depending on the incoming player.

I could see something along the lines of Laughton+your middle of the 3 1sts+2025 3rd for our 2026 1st and Cowan
The way I see it break down is Laughton+2025 3rd for our 2026 1st and your middle 2025 1st for Cowan

JGP for some form of a draft pick.

I don't know if the wants or needs of the Flames even match up. No matter what we do, we're drafting too late or not early enough after the TDL.

This is a year to bottom out, draft top 10 to give Montreal Florida's pick and our young guys including Wolf decides they're going to be awesome.

:avs

Needs: (1-2) Defensemen, (1-2) Top-9 Forwards
Trade Bait: All Draft Picks, Ivan, Malinski

2C is a need up front, but Mittelstadt has been better lately, and I'm not sure how easy it will be to find a clear upgrade.

3W is what I would call a desperate need, but likely requires Wood (4yrs rem.) being shipped out, which will be difficult.

4D would be ideal and may reduce the need to one, with Manson bumped down. Two 5/6D to stabilize the third pair may be more realistic.

Sabres: (in order)

- New Arena
- New Owner
- New GM
- New Identity of what a Sabres player is
- New Media Broadcast Team
- New Address

Totally Okay with Packaging those needs together.

Lacombes rise imho means zellwegger is for sure used in a trade for forward help.

And Helleson. With him looking like a solid bottom pairing guy, the organization being high on Luneau, and Solberg providing an element the Ducks lack... that probably leaves Zellweger as the piece to move (also assuming that Mintyukov will eventually be the #1 D)
