24 year old RHD in the last year of his RFA deal. Scored 70 points last year on a team no one would confuse for an offensive juggernaut. Very bad in his own zone.

Islanders most likely looking for a hockey trade for a similarly aged and valued player, or slightly below with value made up by prospects/picks.
I can see it now...."Your teams best forward prospect, best d-man prospect, 5-1st round picks, +++++"

The Islanders aren’t offering their most overrated C prospect. That ask would be a Leafs/Habs ask for a future career AHL 13F.

assuming cbj moves provorov first with retention for a 1st, flipping that 1st (not their own) + jiricek for dobson sounds like it would make sense.

I dont think this does it for us. We still have Dobson under control. A RD who can put up over 70 pts. A rookie Dman who has a total of 11 pts in career and a mid to low 1st rounder doesn't work.

Isles would need to be blown away by offer. Odds are, the the isles re-sign him in the off-season for 8M

real hfboards moment here reducing a guy who is two years removed from being the #6 overall pick, and one year removed from being the AHL rookie of the year (at 18) down to just "a rookie dman"

if the isles are open to trading dobson, i assume it would signal a full rebuild. maybe i'm wrong in making that assumption. but if that's the case, adding a mid/late first + jiricek would be the best offer out there to jump start that.

jiricek also has another year on his ELC after this one + will likely be in line for a bridge deal after that, unless he really breaks out to earn a long-term deal (in which case he's basically a younger dobson replacement anyway)

Agree with you that trading Dobson would signal a full rebuild. However I think Jiricek + a late first is still a little light. I think you would have to include one of your younger players + a 2nd/3rd pick instead of the first. Ik it’s a lot but no matter what scenario the Isles choose to go Dobson fits it. The only way he leaves is if he wants like $10mil and other teams are actually willing to give it to him. Otherwise I don’t see the Isles actually making that move.

Jiricek is magic beans until he’s not. Dobson is already a proven scorer at the NHL level.

It’s a good beginning to a deal, but posters from other teams have been offering the equivalent of 4 firsts, so it would likely be outbid. I think another jackets fan made a similar offer but included Sillinger, and I think that would get it done.

Caufield for Dobson would bring HFboards to a grinding halt.

Fantasy trade thread....no way he is getting traded.
I would say that with each passing loss the likelihood goes up. I’d put it now at like…. 3%.

There’s been no info about contract talks at all, and a lot has been made about Lou’s cone of silence and using the time when you have it… but we usually know that they’re at least talking. In addition, Nelson and Palmieri have not been re-signed.

If the isles keep losing, now with a third coach of the same core, they’re going to at LEAST deal Nelson and Palmieri before the deadline. The cap space that opens up from those two should be just about (11M) what it takes to account for the raises due to Dobson, Romanov, and Tsyplakov… but then you have no money to make additions, and a pretty bare prospect pool. So you’re going to be worse next year no matter what. That makes this the optimal time to kick off the retool, and if you decide you’ve seen enough of Dobson then it’s almost dumb to keep him around
