I gotta say, I'm a little shocked to see so many Canucks fans offering up EP. What's going on with him?
He just signed a huge contract and looks like a shy 50-point player now. I'm honestly not sure there's much of a market for the guy until he improves his game. If you bet big on a guy and he doesn't progress as expected... that's a long time all of a sudden for a middling guy. The worry is they guessed wrong on him and fans have buyer's remorse. That, and the Vancouver market is a little nutty in the first place.

Dobson is clearly nyi best defenseman but man he does have a lot of brain farts in his own zone especially when the game is on the line or overtime

Weird thing with Dobson is he seems to play better if he gets like 25+ minutes a night(compared to low 20s)

I am actually a bit surprised. I thought when we drafted him he would be better defensively than offensively(which he has exceeded my expectations)

Petterson straight up for Dobson. You guys go f yourself, going by a 10 game sample size, and thinking suddenly everyone is better than Pettersson. F in hfboards.com the same clowns who think, Samuel Girard is as good as Quinn Hughes, brainless !@#56 kers. Straight up. Will entertain
Petterson and Hronek for Dobson and Barzal.
About 5 or 6 canucks fans came in here offering Petterson, not the other way around.

But seems like he’s been pretty bad since the all Star break last season. Is it the contract? The tendinitis? Both? His skate speed and shot speed are way down. You tell us, we don’t watch all the Canucks game

Montreal gives you Top 10 protected 1st 2025, Hage, Matheson.
Easy decline, not close

He’s also been better playing with a 20 year old rookie with 6 games of professional experience. Almost like if he gets better when he needs to pick up his teammates slack

I can't see him getting more than Brock Faber's contract, or less than Devon Toews extention. Somewhere in the 7.5-8M AAV range.
Great idea, let's give up 4 unprotected 1st round picks while being the worst team in the league. Can't see that backfiring spectacularly.

You're buying UFA years, not RFA years in this case, with a rising cap. You'd also have to put it out of the range where we would want to re-sign him, so an offer sheet only starts to work around 10M, which is 2 unprotected firsts, a second and a third.

It puts the isles in an awkward spot because they probably don't want to pay him that much, but that offer probably gets outbid by someone you can sign him for a little less - probably doesn't make sense in this case. A Dobson offer from the sharks probably starts with Dickinson and that first

Isles match and smile.
If it was that easy he would have gotten an extension offer by now, but it's pretty clear the Isles don't want to.

nobody is going to offer Dobson 10M+. Not even close. Like I said Faber got 8.5 and he's at least 2 tiers above Dobson, he'll be lucky to get 8.

I think the point is if you offer 8 or less the Isles will just match it

you're reaching. there are some things to work out with the isles cap situation and if I was Dobson I would probably bet on myself and try and hit 60+ (or 70) again. not a lot of consistent 60 point defensemen out there, I would say 8.5M is the baseline for that.

something like 10M could put the isles in a bad spot. that's how offer sheets work.

From Mtl, I would say Kirby Dach + Filip Mesar / Owen Beck + Justin Barron + 1st rd Florida

Newhook, Logan Mailloux and Xhekaj brothers could be in the mix,

24 year old RHD in the last year of his RFA deal. Scored 70 points last year on a team no one would confuse for an offensive juggernaut. Very bad in his own zone.

Islanders most likely looking for a hockey trade for a similarly aged and valued player, or slightly below with value made up by prospects/picks.

Dobson for Cowan & Rielly

I think Lou liked Rielly.
