24 year old RHD in the last year of his RFA deal. Scored 70 points last year on a team no one would confuse for an offensive juggernaut. Very bad in his own zone.

Islanders most likely looking for a hockey trade for a similarly aged and valued player, or slightly below with value made up by prospects/picks.

Why are the Islanders trading Dobson?
He's incredible offensively but there are those who think his defensive lapses outweigh his offensive contributions. There's also scenario where we go for a big shakeup this season and moving from Dobson might be one of the most effective ways to do it. The team is underperforming and filled with immovable contracts - Now we have Barzal, Pelech, and Duclair out long term. In addition Romanov and Reilly are out for a while. Despite Sorokin looking Vezina caliber again, we will likely be among the bottom teams after the first quarter of the season, and will need to make a decision on Palmieri and Nelson at the deadline (or before).

Removing those three players from the team should net us some valuable assets while making the team worse and increasing our lottery odds. Dobson is probably the player that gains us the largest return on the market. Dealing those three players this year allows us to significantly reshape the roster while kickstarting a re-tool and potentially puts us in the running for LI native James Hagens.

Well thought out and probably the right thing to do. However there is one issue that makes it unlikely to happen.

Lou. The Islanders will compete till he dies!:eek3:

NYI has mostly an older team, 30 and above, with their best younger guys Barzal, Dobson, Romanov. Wahlstrom, Holstrom haven't developed offensively to what they were expected to yet.

So, they need to figure out a direction of the team. Do they just unload their 2 soon to be ufas and then look to also offload JGP and/or Lee who are due up in 2026 as well? Have to figure out where the team is headed.

I wonder if EP40 straight across for Dobson could possibly be a old school traditional hockey blockbuster. EP is signed and maybe Dobson would agree to deal beforehand.
If Dobson is as defensively lapsing as they suggest wouldn't the canucks trading for him be a repeat of the OEL trade?

Dobson won't take Hughes off the PP1. so you lose value instantly.

I'll be honest haven't seen Dobson play in awhile but he was a stud RHD so what happened to him? Also EP has not been very good since all star break last year himself.

My best guess is that we will never be able to completely blow the team up and do a full rebuild because Sorokin keeps us in games on his own. Letting go of Palmieri, Nelson, and Dobson (and maybe retaining to move lee or Pageau) instead of giving them new contracts would be the closest thing we could do to that for the next couple of years.

If we're going to suck this is the year to do it - it's hard to see them moving on from Dobson rather than trying to fix his defensive inneficiencies... but it's be 5 years and 3 coaches at this point. If you decide you don't want to give him the 9M contract, you move him now.

I’d love to get Dobson on Anaheim
Mintyukov Dobson
Dumo Luneau
Zellweger Gudas

With solberg taking over for dumo at some point in the future

I’d do something around

Mctavish or zegras as main piece
Lacombe hinds Warren or dioncicio
+ some sort of add

Cowan, Danford, and a 2026 First Round Pick?

Marner 50% retained?
1 year of Mitch Marner not gonna do it

I think for all intents in purposes in this scenario NYI would be trading Palmieri and Nelson for futures and Dobson for roster players, so not super interested in the Cowan deal either

Dobson to sharks for Ferraro, haltunnen and 2025 first unprotected. Probably wouldn't give up more given where Sharks are but I'd imagine we would have interest in dobson

Maybe I'm off here but I think we'd be looking more in the Mctavish AND Zegras category than or. Isles could add something or other

Yeah realistically Mitch Marner, if being traded, is going in a sign & trade type of deal.

Pettersson is closer to being Huberdeau than Dobson is to being Ekman-Larsson

Oh absolutely no to an unprotected 1st this year. We're a year away from being ready to trade for someone like Dobson. We need another core piece before it's time to load up. We can't give up Hagens or Martone plus more for a defenseman who is not very good defensively and about to need a huge contract.

Something like your deal for Dobson during this upcoming summer with a top-2 protected 2026 1st would be more reasonable for the Sharks.
