Recently here because there was a lot of good for a long time. Now we're paying for it
1) 2024 Playoff stretch meltdown...
From Feb 13th (2nd game back after ASG weekend) to the very end of March, the team went 9-10-2. This includes a 0-7-0 streak where they were outscored 36 to 12. Ultimately, they end up missing the playoffs on a tiebreaker where Philadelphia pulls their goalie with the game tied against Washington, the very team Detroit loses the tiebreaker to. Washington scores and Detroit's efforts, despite winning in exciting shootout at that exact moment in time, were ultimately futile. The playoff drought sits at 8 years, and the team has shown its struggles early on this season
2) Drafting the faller "Filly Nets" ahead of a University of Michigan star defenseman...
2018 draft had its surprises at the top but it was Filip Zadina falling and beyond-wore-out-his-welcome Kenny Holland jumped at the chance at drafting this enigma goal scorer from the QMJHL. Little did he and the staff care (or know?) about, an explosive, fast, talented young defenseman playing college hockey directly in their backyard was right there on the board. Considering the team had zero top pair D prospects at the time, Quinn Hughes was the logical choice. Instead, Zadina was picked 6th by Detroit instead of 3rd by Montreal, the projected slot he was to be drafted at. He famously quotes "I'm going to fill their nets with pucks". He quickly showed he didn't have the hockey sense nor goal scoring prowess to cut it in the NHL and has now fled to Europe at age 25. Hughes was your 2024 Norris winner
3) 2009 Stanley Cup Final blown 3-2 lead...
Detroit relied heavily on their big stars who played plenty of minutes. Crosby played 9:59 that game. Fleury makes a buzzer beater diving save on Lidstrom. The darkness that set in for the franchise since that very game still looms 15 years later
