If a Dobson trade can be worked out for a reasonable cost that's a no-brainer. But would much rather trade Danielson than ASP in that exchange.
We'd obviously be loaded up on high-end RDs but that's not exactly the worst problem to have. Worst case scenario, you can move one of them down the line for a haul to shore up another part of the roster. At the end of the day, I think Danielson has the higher floor but ASP is a safer bet to be a high-end player in the NHL. What is a star, other than an individual who distinguishes themselves as a cut above their peers? ASP has done that much more decisively thus far, and his comparables at the same ages in the same leagues are legends of the game, like Erik Karlsson for example. Danielson just doesn't have those bona fides. I don't have any hard data to back this up, but my feeling is that superstars at the junior/college level (or promising NHL prospects playing with men in Europe like ASP) turn into stars at the NHL level much more reliably than those players who did not distinguish themselves in that way at the lower levels.
Besides, Kasper's showing this past season has made Danielson's success less vital for the team. Still an important piece, but we at least have another young C who projects as a top 6 C. We don't have that equivalent fall-back option for ASP.
