Your Rebuild Opinion? Next Move Coming?

He is not going to be free agent yet, he is a junior (D+3) next season

also he's a Goalie

nobodies fast tracking a Goalie if they aren't ready, you can't hide them at the bottom of the lineup with low minutes the same way you can another position and they're way easier to ruin as well

Fodder for all those, who are on the Gavrikov train with me. +14,3 is the best defense rating in the league. We need to get our hands on this guy.

He'll be a fascinating one to watch. No doubt, he fits the Red Wings roster like a glove.

On The Athletics' model gives him a $9.5M market value. A bidding war above $9M with term for a 30 point dman is a pretty dicey area for me.

On the other side of the spectrum this Kings blog has him at $6.2 - $6.7. Id take that any day, so would probably 20+(all?) NHL teams.

FWIW, My understanding was he and the Kings were both interested in an extension.

Like I said in another thread, getting Gavrikov would be like adding our McDonagh.

I’d go as high as 6 years 8.25 mil. With the cap increases we can afford a defense corps of Gavrikov, Edvinsson and Seider making 8-9 mil each. ASP won’t make big bucks for 3 years.

I did think hughes was a goner after what the canucks gm said. If they are going to trade him now and to like a contender like vegas as suggested what can they get? They only have Connelly

What Would be something they might consider ... a 2026 top 10 protected 1st+ wallinder+ rasmussen+ berggren+plante

I know theres no big name ... thing is what if its known he wants to leave in 2 yrs ?? Would we part with a nygaard etc.. I cant imagine any team would give up a top prospect unless it's a 25-32 team

Anyways if its the quantity type move that can make it happen I'd so it for 2 yrs and hope we can convince him to sign a 3-4 yr deal and delay meeting up with his brothers

Think hes gone 100% this summer. Canucks are screwed... maybe wilander should be someone we can get if he can play the left side

I think if you are trying for Quinn you obviously will know where you are picking by that time and you are giving up the 12th overall in the deal. I'd pay a lot to be honest, he's a norris guy and Wallinder+++ other Wallinder types doesn't get it done. You'll have to finally make that hurtful decision of actually trading someone with value like Ed or ASP.

That's without the brother stuff, with the brother stuff I dunno. You'd really screw up if you traded a couple big pieces and he's a Devil in two years.

that's why no one will give them an Ed or ASP level piece in a deal. Unless your cup window is the next two years, and you have a young kid like that to blow on the possibility of winning it, I don't know how any team would justify such a cost with such a likelihood that he just walks.

I'm not advocating this move. Just showing an example where the money works out and the assets exchanged MIGHT be in the realm of discussion.

TO DETROIT: Elias Pettersson ($800k retained by Vancouver), Quinn Hughes

TO VANCOUVER: Dylan Larkin, Ben Chiarot, Justin Holl, ASP, 2025 1st round pick

The Wings make a huge splash with Hughes and take a gigantic roll of the dice with Pettersson. For those buying into the current Larkin drama, it also emphatically shuts the door on that topic.

The Canucks get out of the Pettersson drama while acquiring a very good two-way center, a decent defenseman, a Hughes-lite defenseman about to enter the league on an ELC, and a decent draft pick.

Aside from whether the trade itself is balanced, my one question is whether Yzerman would have any interest in Pettersson.

A few issues,
  1. It looks like Pettersson's NMC clause kicks in this summer. That would seem hella risky.
  2. Is Hughes signing an extension in this scenario?
Beyond those key items, I don't know that Yzerman wants to add any drama and that's what you'd potentially be signing up for with Pettersson.

Well that’s why I’m saying no one will trade anything major if they know he’s leaving 100% in 2 yrs . Zero chance in hell we’d deal a Kasper, edvinsson etc.. no matter how good Hughes is

No team will either ... it’ll probably be a cup contender who’d go for it and they’re picks would be later and prospects not as good. I can see Vegas giving up Connelly for 2 yrs of Hughes but they’re already stacked at d but it’s vegas so they don’t care

What top teams would give up high end prospects? Tampa would move hoaward but he won’t sign probably. Florida haven’t had high picks lately. Anyways your right Hughes would garner a major return but not for 2 yrs if he’s 100% certainty to leave

Connelly +2026 1st which would likely be 27-32 + 2nd + Hague ?? Would probably be the best type deal the Canucks would get

Larkin wants to play in the playoffs 0% chance he waives for Vancouver so it’s pointless

I wouldn’t even deal larkin if I knew Hughes would leave in 2 yrs . Cool we got Hughes for 2 yrs now we have Kasper copp compher down the middle. Won’t do squat in those 2 seasons

Indeed. He is exactly what the doctor ordered.

I'd be willing to give him 7yrs and 8.5, just a tad below Mo. Prob with a little shaky hand on the pencil while signing, but if that is what it takes, so be it.

Gavrikov and Seider pairing would be such a treat to watch, just make it happen Stevie.

This will be one of those contracts that won't look too hot the last 2 years. But it'll be worth it, imagine 4 years of what could be a top-3 pair in the league.

It sounds like he may not make it to free agency, but if he does I hope we make a strong offer. No idea if he liked playing for McLellan, that could be a factor as well.

That's a shame in that case, haven't followed the story so closely.

But it makes sense, King's will be able to give a very generous offer.
