Your Rebuild Opinion? Next Move Coming?

I would be very nervous about Nurse at any cap number. We have taken a few hated defensemen by their last team and it hasn't turned out too well. Let's aim for better than most hated Dman by fans on his last team.

Duchene is ok at 64 pt pace for his career, but Larkin is the one struggling with the exact same pt average? Larkin has played enough games for that 64 to mean about what he is. Not saying Larkin can't have high expectations, but he has only hit actual ppg once in his career and a couple close ones, other than that 65ish pts is about where he lands, given that most seasons he will miss 1-15 games.

You are also pointing out too high of expectations for Duchene as a 3rd overall, while Dylan was a 15th overall (so lower expectations presumably), so him having the same career average and arguably better compete level should be considered pretty good.
Once Larkin hit his prime, hes been a point per game player for roughly 3 seasons now. If you want to count 30 point 21 year old seasons into your expectations for Larkin right now be my guest but I wont do it. Larkin hit 25 years old and became a point per game guy, pretty simple

And yeah 64 point pace for Duchenes career, in over 1100 games, where he hasnt been in his prime for a while now. Duchene in his 3 or 4 best years? I bet his point pace would average out somewhere close to 35 goals and 90 points.

I'm not saying Duchene is better than Larkin, I'm just saying some posters are too hard on him in this thread. He had an objectively really good career and would be by far the most decorated current red wing

The more I think about it…. There’s just nothing about keeping Larkin and DeBrincat that makes any sense at all.

They both have 3-4 yrs of prime left.

It’s going to take 3-4 yrs for us to get TO our sc-competitive window.

And these guys are going to be overpaid, over-the-hill 3rd liners FOR our sc-competitive window.

Wouldn’t you rather have four 1st Rd picks entering their primes on the team for our SC-window?

*************************

We’d have like $40M in cap space after trading them. It wouldn’t be hard or at all detrimental to get 3-4 solid vets to come here on 3yr overpay contracts and to make the playoffs next season.
OMG...

Every thread with this delusional nonsense! Really?

Nurse is @9.25 until age 35.

Do you want aquire that?

No, but we'd probably be demanding some sort of retention unless the cost to acquire is crazy low. And maybe he gives us an in with McDavid :naughty:

He got the Kenny Holland Special!

He also has a full NMC thru 2027 which he'd have to waive (it turns to a 10 team modified NTC after that), and his contract is structured to be buyout proof. Starting in 2027 the lionshare of his salary is in the form of signing bonuses.

So Nurse only comes here if he wants to, and if he turns into absolute garbage in the next season or two there will be virtually no cap savings from buying him out. The Wings would be stuck with that AAV.

Duchene would also have seasons with lower pt totals, why does it matter if it was at the beginning-middle-end of career? They both have 64 pt averages for their careers, regardless when it happened, but you are defending Duchene while somewhat calling out Larkin.

The more I watch Sam Bennett(C 28yo), the more I want him on this roster. He is at $4.4 today. He is 28. $8x7.

Toss in Ekblad (RHD 29yo). He is at $7.5 today. After the PED incident, I doubt he gets more, but round it up to $8x6

I take these two over Marner and another vet or journeyman.

Here is Pete's post broken down w/ rumors.

Here are the key rumors from the summary:

1. Steve Yzerman may step down as GM and become President of Hockey Operations, similar to what Jimmy Devellano once held.

Kris Draper is rumored to be the likely candidate to become the new General Manager after the 2025 NHL Draft.

This move could buy the organization 2-3 more years to complete the rebuild.

2. Detroit may intentionally take a step backward next season to allow more rookies to develop and position themselves for high draft picks in upcoming strong drafts (2026–2028).

3. The front office expects more Top 10 picks over the next two years before making a major push in 2027-2028.

4. Speculation about Dylan Larkin possibly wanting out, though no credible sources confirm this yet.

If Larkin requests a trade, teams like Columbus, LA, or Carolina would need to pay a massive price.

Some in the front office preferred to trade him last year rather than re-sign.

5. Detroit could target arbitration-eligible defensemen like:

Cam York

Dylan Samberg

K’Andre Miller

Bowen Byram

These teams might be forced to trade due to salary cap issues.

6. Yzerman is rumored to want out of the media spotlight, and the President role is seen as a safer, long-term position without the pressure of being GM.

I guess if yzerman gets promoted to president role, then we know why.

You guys talkin about adding Duchene and Taveras? No thanks! We need to add a LW with some sandpaper and some scoring to the top of the lineup. I clear out the bottom 6 of Rass, Motte, Smith, Burgers and buyout Compher or Copp. Maybe a 3rd line of Danielson, and add a player that is hard to play against winger with some offense and Mazur. A 4TH line of Copp and a couple high energy good penalty killing wingers who like to play like Maltby/Draper. And add a LD next to Seider.

Doubt it happens but another name came to me to help the d core ... Alex Vlasic , if the hawks end up taking Schaefer they’ll have ...

Schaefer levshunov
Korchinski rinzel

Even if they dealt Vlasic ... depending on who’s there at 12 they can grab a forward they need +wallinder/buium+ a kiiskinen/plante ... or dare I see elmer if they want help right now.

I don’t know what it would cost but a d core of the following .... yes pls

Vlasic seider
Edvinsson asp
- Johansson
