Your Rebuild Opinion? Next Move Coming?

Toronto has enough CAP space to sign all of Knies, Marner and Tavares. No way they let Knies go.

They've already got 7 D and 2 goalies signed at least through 2025-26.

It really all comes down to whether they can win in the playoffs. If they can't one of Marner or Tavares will become the sacrificial lamb ... the blamed.

Also, not sure if this is the correct thread, but the odds of Vancouver being able to get Quinn Hughes to re-sign there must be incredibly long after the nonsense of this season in VAN. I think the odds were long before this season.

I still can't ever get the sight of Holland taking Zadina over Quinn out of my mind. It will haunt me forever.

the good thing about a tavares is short term . we could over pay but only for 3 years so hit would be out of the way when we need the space for young guys getting established by then . then as opposed to being on the hook for marner big coin we'd have solid coin to offer our own draftees as they develop into nhlers , so we could pay them solid long term coin like just happend with sides n rayz = the newbies happy to be set for life + the wings possibly getting huge contract discounts in the future . i like the thought of yzerman sitting there a few years from now with the space to feed eddie n marco 8 year terms instead of being broke paying marner forever , be loyal to players = players loyal to organization !!!!!!!!!!!!!! REWARD YOUR OWN DRAFTEE'S + BUILD BOTTOM HALF ELITE DEPTH WITH BIG BODIED D & C (two way centers) TO PREVENT BEING ABUSED ON THE ICE AND SCOREBOARD ! FIND UNDERSIZED TALENTED RAT WINGERS IN LATER ROUNDS

Maybe if we can get rid of Copp AND Compher because adding Tavares even for 3 years BLOCKS a roster spot.

I'd be shocked if they move Pettersson. They have two more seasons before Hughes can walk as a UFA, they have to sell him that he should stay and that they'll be competitive. Maybe if next year goes all to hell they will sell both the following season to kick start a rebuild, but I have to believe they will try to right that ship at least next season.
For the record I agree, I dont see them moving him, but if I'm Stevie I'm picking up the phone. 1C's like that rarely become available. I understand many are against this (see responses to my post), but sometimes you have to take a chance, you can't be a successful GM in the NHL if you are scared to ever do something that "could" go wrong. The upside is worth it IMO.

If we were giving up primarily futures I'd be more on board with taking a chance on EP. Something like a couple of 1sts, Lombardi, and some mid-level roster guy. The sort of deal you see when teams are dumping a guy and rebuilding. I don't want to give up Kasper, Danielson, ASP, or MBN, though. Or Buch, really.

With how so many of our prospects developed this year, I'm more interested in seeing them in Detroit than taking a home run swing on a guy like EP. Especially since I think if wait a year, the price will quite possibly be more of a futures package than a "help us now" package.

Why the hell do people act like Draper has no say In our EU picks? The guy is the director of amateur scouting, his opinion has the most weight outside of yzerman. There is no such thing as “hakan picks” and “Draper picks”. Draper is the head of amateur scouting, they are all his and Yzermans.

I’m OK with swapping Rasmussen for Jeanott 1 for 1.

Boeser - Larkin - Raymond
DBC - Kasper - Kane
Soderblom - Danielson - Zetterlund (find a way to trade for his rights) or MBN (depending on how he looks in AHL postseason and NHL preseason)
Jeanott - Copp - Mazur

Byram (Trade 2026 or 2027 1st for him) - Seider
Edvinsson - Johansson
Chiarot - ASP/Fabbro
Merril (bring back the mullet!)

Talbot
Cossa
Mrazek (you know he’s going to get hurt)

Waive/trade Holl, Gus and Tank, Rasmussen, Berggren, Compher

This gives the team an easily interchangeable top 9. Keep the bottom line as your shutdown line. Eventually swap out Copp for a scrappy, mean 4th line center type and you have a shutdown and agitator line.

@Henkka , about how many points does this team put up if healthy when you run your JFresh standing points above replacement analysis? (I understand rookies rank in at zero points but we know Danielson and Mazur will provide some positive value)

Jeannot is a UFA, so that would be trading Rasmussen for his rights.

Can someone explain why Justin Holl is in the lineup over :

#4 Antti Tuomisto

#5 Eemil Viro

#8 Shai Buium

#20 Anton Johansson

#22 William Wallinder

I don't get it?
If you're planning to dump a player with a trade clause, it's usually better not to piss them off by sending them down.

It helps the player for another contract.

If Holl gets bought out, that's easier to explain, a cap move.

If Yzerman keeps nailing his 1st Rd picks like he has been we’re not going to need to worry about replacing aging players.

They’ll be pushed out
The team only gets one first round pick every year, all of those contracts will expire by the time those kids are ready. It also takes 19 years to replace a team with only first round picks, and NHL careers don't last that long.

I'd love to have Merrill back purely for that stache and greasy flow.

Between him and Bertuzzi no longer being on the team, I miss having players who look like they're hanging out in Westland mall circa 1978.

We need the mullet goal celebrations again. This team has not been the same since.

Jeannot is a UFA, so that would be trading Rasmussen for his rights.

He is? I thought he was RFA for some reason. Get him now!

Capwage is projecting $9 million for 7 years for Boeser and $6 miliion for 6 years for Bennett.

This team desperately needs the snarl of guy like Bennett, but siignings like these won't come easy or withough significant risk.

I will accept this as fact and go for Bennett. I don't like 6 years, but $6M is a solid price and really gives the Wings a great line up down the middle. Larkin - Bennett - Kasper - Copp/Compher. If they get Sam and Eklad that would be awesome. It will be tough to pry them both out of sunny no tax Florida but Ekblad is from the real East Detroit.... WINDSOR! hahaha. Resign Kane and put MBN on a wing.

Your D pairs are awful. Seider and ekblad both shoot right. Ed and chiarot both shoot left. Why is chiarot even in your top 4 in that situation? No way does poor ed get stuck playing with that pylon over asp. Ed makes everyone he plays with look better so stick asp with him and let him cook.

Point taken on the shooting hand. Mix and match as you like I was just looking for 6 D who could play in the NHL. Chiarot.... I'd like to pencil him as gone, but the D dump list is Holl, Petry, Gustafsson and then Chiarot. I just can't see them dumping 4 D. In that group, Chiarot stays. All Bsing aside, I think he is better than Ajo (who is getting pushed around in the last 15).

From most reports Ekblad cant skate and that's in a warm climate. Bring him up to Michigan and sign him long term and his legs may crumble.

I have to believe the ice temp in Florida is about the same as it is in MI. I mean unless I was higher than I thought during school.

Not sure where you read he can't skate, but his TOI indicates he doesn't need double runners. He's also a 2x all star.
