Your Rebuild Opinion? Next Move Coming?

Hagens at 1? Why you think that? I’d be shocked considering I keep seeing hagens now at 4-5 on so many lists

Center depth?they also need Dmen. I could see them going with misa but I think Schaefer is the smart move for them
I mean, their top 4 of Pelech-Pullock Romanov-Dobson is solid. I get having too much depth isn't a thing, but why not add some offense to that team? They haven't had a true game changer since Tavares.

Misa is my personal choice, but to have a home grown guy after the debacle that was the JT saga seems a little too obvious. Even if they have to trade down a spot or two to land him.

Isn't 2 of those 2men 30+ already?? Schaefer is a legit #1

It's a cool story home grown kid but you should always pick the best player and hagens isn't. I wouldn't want larkin over someone better cause hes a local kid

I don't thin they go with hagens when it's all said and done

And will also piss the locker room and many many fans off to no extent. We keep getting hosed in the lottery anyway, so we could go 0-82 and be outscored 645-105 and still only get 3rd overall.
That locker room probably already pissed at Yzerman . I hope not, but sounds like there are some , we could only speculate

Probably no news is good news. If there was an actual rift between Larkin and management you would think something else would have bubbled up by now. He likely saw the Yzerman quote and realized its best to get to work on the off season and hold any further comments. If he wanted out or change, I am sure some twitter account or "insider" would be leaking something immediately.
By October we will know, playoffs still going on

I actually still think Hagens is the third best player in the draft. However, he is a clear tier below the top 2. You don’t reach with the #1 pick, my guess is the top 2 will go with who we expect.

I am curious who takes over in Long Island because if they tear it down they have a lot of players that should generate interest around the league.

A rift amongst the players and management will likely increase our chances of becoming the Sabres part deux.
That's why I don't see a rift between Larkin and Yzerman as anywhere close to likely.

Larkin wants this team to get over that hump, and I really don't blame him. But I also don't think he has insight on the business side of things. I got the impression, when Stevie said he and Larks talked abut it, that Stevie gave him a peek behind the veil of the business side of things.

I could be wrong, and it wouldn't be the first time, but that's just my impression.

Ken Holland currently the top choice.

AFP came out with their FA projections. Site is fairly accurate with as many low as they have high. Got Mo's contract real close (7x8.127) and were off a tad with Ray (7x7.75). Gav's projection is 7x7.6. No need to go 8x8.25. Ehlers projects at 6x8.1. Take both those in a heartbeat. Buyout Tank and you have 4+ to go after another D or F of your liking. Bennett is 6x6.6 if that's your liking over Ehlers. Donato 3x4.2 would be a nice upgrade over Tank to fit in on line 3 or 4, idc. This team would definitely be a playoff team by adding Gav/Ehlers or Bennett/Donato. And be set for a minute or two. I don't think SY is dumping Tank to probably just Gav/Ehlers or Bennett. Still like that lineup a ton.

EVERYONE will be ready to spend 7.6. You need to outbid the rest, and that’s why you have to spend more.

Nah.

I think a 2nd plus Wallinder would do it.

Howard might be a Jonathan Drouin at the next level. I don’t think he’s going to be a true 1st line level talent though.

That's my preferred package but I don't think its a winning offer. I think another team beats it.

Without knowing that you can sign him? I mean, you can't negotiate with him.

I'd take my chances with his FA next August.

Teams often are granted permission to pre-negotiate contracts once the framework of a trade is agreed upon.

If he said, "Yes i will sign with you" would you be willing to pull the trigger for 13th?

The questions I have; are the players I’m looking at equal to or better than Howard? And are those players better fits for the locker room?

If yes I don’t move. Howard also gets to make his choice which makes me think his value is lower.

I wouldn't personally. If I'm trading 13 overall it's for an established NHL defenseman. Ike is really good in college, but Jimmy Vesey was really good too, and that guy is a career 4th liner. Hardly worth a 1st rounder.

Another angle is that we know Howard has developed well and is 3 years older. In theory, if he is legit, he will make an impact sooner.

Overall, I agree with you, 13th is probably too steep. I would definitely do a 2nd + Wallinder.

I'm not familiar enough with Howard's game, but recent Hobey Baker award winners have almost always been great NHL'ers. So based on the track record I'd give it a lot of thought. For Vessey, he played in the ECAC, which is not a great conference. Howard also played for the USNTDP so there should be a lot out scouting and good feel for his game.

Cole Caufield seems like a good comparable, both smaller wingers who won the Hobey Baker in their second year in the B1G conference. They also had similar production on the USNTDP.

If Caufield is a good comparable, it would certainly seem to be a good bit of business to fill a need for a scoring line LW who will be plug and play fairly quickly for the 13th overall pick.

List of Hobey Baker winners. Not as great as we think.

I mean, going back from 2015-2024, half the players have gone on to be NHL stars. Eichel, Maker, Caufield, Fantilli and Celebrini. But the other half, woof. Vesey is quality depth, but Butcher is out of the league already, Gaudette JUST found another gear this season, Perunovich is AHL fodder and McKay never made the show.

It really seems to be a boom or bust type of award.

Berggren + whatever , Tampa gets a cost controlled player able to plug in immediately and a pick or prospect. I don't think its worth giving up a 1st rounder knowing Yzerman and Co. have a good track record in the first. If he wants to only be in Detroit, let the clock tick and see how cheap you can get him.
