To NYI: Isaac Howard, Michael Hage and Kirby Dach

To MTL: Bo Horvat

To TBL: 17th overall in the 2025 NHL draft

This is a conditional trade on two conditions: Any player with a NTC/NMC has to waive obviously, and Howard has to agree to sign with NYI

Why NYI does it: They get two good young forward prospects to add to the foundation alongside Schaefer this summer

Why TBL does it: asset management and gets their disgruntled player out of the division

Why MTL does it: they get a very good top 6 center

Id do this as a Habs fan (im a big Horvat fan) I think the Isles are paying too much for Howard though.

Do the deal straight up with the Habs, keep the 17th and offer your later 1st from the Avs trade for Howard.

I don't think there's 17 prospects in this year's draft I'd want over Howard, so I'm fine with the proposal as is.

I'm more interested in keeping the 2026 Avs pick over the 2025 17th overall. Colorado is a huge wildcard next year considering the state of their organization.

Dor some reason I thought thay 1st was this draft. My mistake

Really not sure TB is jumping on a pick in a weak draft that is not going to help them for a really long time in all likelihood. The real cause of Howard not getting a good return would be that a team would not be sure if he would go there. If he's agreeing to sign with other teams, I bet TB could get a prospect that they would like more.

Beggars can't be choosers. Tampa's in line to get a future like 60th overall pick if he walks for free.

If there's an opportunity for them to get a mid first rounder, they would be dumb not to jump on that opportunity.

Market values change. You see what Nelson returned a few months ago?

Nelson returned a late 1st and a prospect who was drafted in the late 1st?

The habs are giving up far more than in your proposal.

Also unlike Colorado, the habs are not in their cup contending window. Trading two of their best non-nhl assets for a player who has only a couple of good years left makes no sense.

There's no guarantee where the Colorado pick will land.

And both Ritchie and Hage were picks in the 20s.

It's your choice whether you want to do it or not, but that's the FMV price of a top 6 center now a'days.

I think this is pretty solid deal for all 3 teams.

Addresses Montreals immediate need for a 2c.
Islanders add 3 forwards (on younger side) to their line up.
17 is prob the highest offer tamapa will get for Howard.

I think the only question is would MTL feel comfortable trading 17th + Dach + Hage for Horvat.... i think Montreal might need a small add.

Yeah, I think we need to bring in a roster player for Howard. Even if it's not a great player, it has to be someone we are sure will make the team, thus making us better now.

The only reason to trade for a pick, in the here and now, would be with an intention to flip it, thus making this a 4 team deal.

answer is no, imo

I think theyd strongly consider it.

the 17th isnt going to do much for Montreal, and they are clearly pretty close to contending.
Dach is more or less a cap dump, baggage for montreal
Hage is a solid piece...

Horvatt wins face offs, and will likely get a jump in production playing on a Montreal team rather than an offensively anemic islanders team

the issue is Hage. I'm in the habs faction that believe he's an untouchable. His family story is incredibly sad but he was drafted by his childhood team.. He's also a terrific player who probably should've gone top 10.
I'm ok with 17th and Dach, but not Hage. Would have to be another piece.
It's so funny how no one knew who he was outside the draft, and now he's wanted in every habs trade. I guess that's a good thing lol

Which is fair, i think the canadians have a lot of other pieces to make a trade work here tbh.

I def think the Horvat to montreal idea is good tho.... i think if you had a legit 2nd line center in the playoffs you mightve upset Washington.... Horvat is prob as good of a 2c as your going to find.

I do agree with you, but Horvat (30) also doesn't really
fit into a rebuilding timeline. Hughes and Gorton said as much yesterday.
Habs had miraculous run to make playoffs in their last game -and maybe they're a little ahead of schedule, but they shouldn't be sacrificing too much young C depth for a guy who arguably, won't be a 2C in 3 years.

I'd put Hage in a trade for someone younger - but as I said, I think habs look very bad for doing it - after trading up specifically for him and helping his family realize a dream

Doesn't matter where the colorado pick lands, its worth was that of a late 1st round pick when it got traded.

Hage is a much better prospect than Ritchie.

Nobody is giving up the equivalent of two mid 1st for Horvat.

You know the Colorado pick isn't the 2025, right?

Hage is much better based on what?

Okay, you can have your opinion but at least one MTL fan in this thread disagrees.
