There are sources. Nobody said they WILL trade them, they’re saying that’s the ask that’s holding the deal up. Why would all of these people be making it up?
They can ask Luke. even Jack. But they will not get Nemec or Mercer. You can use it as a source. I made right prediction about Palat, Brunette, Smith trade as a thing, Zacha trade as a thing, not sign of Johnny Gaudreanyee in the same offseason. And I`m telling you Fitz will not trade Nemec or Mercer, because he is Fitz.

I don’t disagree. I never said the Devils will or should give up Nemec or Mercer. That’s just the price from the Sharks to get a deal done. I wouldn’t do it either.

Pens look like they could be in free fall.

Caps have been in free fall for a while now and lost to the DUCKS of all teams.

The Ducks ain't won in a while and it's pretty hard to only score 2 goals on them and not at least 4 or 5........
Pens are now out on points percentage. Your two wild cards by % is Detroit and Buffalo!

The Caps have now fallen behind the Senators as well.

I think everyone but the execs at ESPN (God their coverage is awful) cant stand him. He gives off the vibe because he is the guy. He someone survived a sexual harassment allegation a few year ago. Go look it up it involved him sending shirtless photos to a young woman,
So the vibe he gives off checks out.

this is bidding wars. They will agree on lesser compensation if some gm will not offer something big. 2st from blues is a compensation, but if sj has faster plan to retool(sounds strange because noone should trade Meier in retool situation, but who knows) than they needs more more nhl ready players.

And I`m not so far away from idea to trade 1st, Holtz, Shakir\Casey. Not a fan, but I can live with it. Blues cant overoffer it. Only with Snuggerrud, but they will not do it. The only team who can overoffer it is Buffalo.

I don`t believe in any trade for young and working player for this team. Perfetti, Jarvis and Mercer are roster players, closer to top-6 or top-6 players. It`s doesnt help to trade assets like this, it`s a bad management. Devils should think about their depth because outside from 86-13-63 we have only Mercer for now, Carolina should think about their cap and Jarvis is under control, Jets should think about the control of player - they have all the years of Perfetti and I didn`t hear about big wish to sign with Jets before. And ofcourse cap situation is important for every team too. If someone is ready to make this big move - I understand it, but it`s just not the move that smart gm will do. Meier is in Debrinkat\Fiala league, his price is lower. I understand that he is very classy, we don`t have a lot of lots of his level, but everybody knows they need to move him and it looks like he don`t want to sign with them. It works in two directions.

And of course if someone could be ready to move 20-21 yo workng nhl player, there would be no talks, trade would be done.
I couldn't agree with you more on virtually everything you're saying here.

I'd also like to add that if the Devils were willing to give up Dawson Mercer (which I'll also add would be a monumentally stupid decision), the trade would be done already. Sharks' GM Mike Grier is no dummy, he wants to "win" his first huge trade, which he clearly would if he got Mercer-plus for Meier. But Devils' GM Tom Fitzgerald is also a smart man, and he's not trading a guy who could be a 30-goal scorer next year on an ELC for a guy who will score 10 more goals for $9 million dollars more per year.

Simply put, you don't really move the needle by trading your 4th best forward for a player who would be your 3rd best forward. When you factor in the difference in age and pay scale between Meier and Mercer? Well, the idea just gets dumber and dumber the more you think about it.

I'd still say the Devils are the front runner for Meier, because quite frankly no other team in the running has a better young talent base to trade from. The Devils can give a 1st and multiple players who would immediately become the Sharks best wing prospect (Holtz, Gritsyuk) or best defense prospect (Mukhamadullin, Casey) or in the running for top 2 defense prospect (Bahl, Okhotyuk).
