On defense I went with right shooting defensemen only for the right side. There are a few better left shooting options available.
I feel like I overlooked a couple of forwards.
*Haven't seen them play in so long, so I am not entirely sure how their development has been going.

Its actually the worst age group for us to make a team I would say lol. Necas, Chytil, Zadina, Blumel are 24-25 so too old, and the interesting prospects except for Kulich and Jiricek are still too young. In that 20-23yrs range we are pretty much shit without any NHLer lol. Its sad, but it is what it is .

Edit: well not as much like shit that would be an overstatement, more like we lack some complete players other countries have. Still most are getting there and waiting for proper NHL chance.

But if I have to I will try for Czechs:

Kulich (2004) - Sapovaliv (2004) - Melovsky (2004)
Rychlovsky (2001) - Becher (2004) - Sale (2005)
Najman (2001) - Szturc (2003) - Chmelar (2003)
Brabenec (2003) - Mysak (2002) - Jecho (2006)
Rymon (2004)

D. Jiricek (2004) - Spacek (2003)
Tichacek (2003) - Svozil (2003)
Hovorka (2001) - Dvorak (2005)
Hamara (2004) - A. Jiricek (2006)

Suchanek (2003) - Malek (2002) - Hrabal (2005)

You have 8 guys from 1st or 2nd round ... would say (wont count it personaly lol) that majority is top 100 of the last drafts. So its not terrible at all, but at the same time there is not a single player here who made some serious impact or even became a regular NHLer yet. So more of a promising for the future team, then some actual powerhouse right now lol

Thats probably what I would say .. what do you think?

Beauty job!

I think today they lose but in 2 years this is a very good group. I find it very promising on D and G. I find the forwards very intriguing. A lot of these guys won't age out next year.

This is our promising generation which follows our shitty generation. That black hole between 20 and 28.

I cannot remember the last time I saw this many Canadian kids bursting out of the gate.

A U23 Team can include players who have already had their 23rd. birthdays....it's a matter of when in the calendar year this hypothetical U23 tournament takes place. The annual IIHF U18 tournament in April has loads of players that are 18,

A better way to phrase would have been Team Rosters for players born in YYYY (birth year) and younger. 2001-2006. I guess that would give us a roster of players from 18 to 23 years old.

The amount of Top 6 Cs Canada produces is just stupid. Their demise as the premier hockey producing country has clearly been exaggerated. But the blueline & goalies are a concern still. The Yanks & Swedes and maybe even the Russians have definitely closed the gap in those departments. But up front, it’s still no competition.

Something like this:

Lafreniere Cozens Bedard
Byfield Johnston Jarvis
Fantilli McTavish Guenther
Celebrini Greig Mercer
Stankoven

Harley Byram
Power Drysdale
Guhle Zellwegger

Levi

It's a low point for Canada in the last while. I don't think the goal is just to be competitive with other countries, Canada should try to match what it has done until someone comes along who can beat that. Goaltending is inexcusably weak, defence has been inconsistent for quite some time. Even just putting myself in the mindset of ten years ago, Canada's forward group from that time decimates the forward group right now in terms of where those players stood in the NHL at that time.

Hall Duchene MacKinnon
Skinner Seguin Schenn
Schwartz O’Reilly Johansen
Kane Couturier Foligno
Kadri

Defence and goaltending wouldn't have been very good though. The good thing is that with goaltenders you just need to hit once or twice and you can be covered at the top level for a decade. The group of the last few years may turn out well, but they haven't burst out of the gate for the most part even if there are signs of quality there.

The goalie situation in Canada makes NO sense. If you can provide an explanation and a cure, Hockey Canada is listening.

As for the forwards, I have been following Canadian hockey for a long time and, I agree, the up front talent Canada has cranked out since 2000 is (beyond) "stupid". I've never seen anything like it. I guess all the <bleep> Canada put out from the 2016-2019 drafts has been turned into fertilizer because we've been blessed.
