Your biggest "Blew it" player predictions.

I WANT the Devils to BE one of the teams where Andy Greene would be something like at least a #4. Hopefully a few of Larsson, Gelinas, Merrill, Urbom, SOMEONE, will take a spectacular leap forward in development and fill the gap.

I absolutely agree, and I think with the number and quality of young D we have, there have to be a couple of really good players there. Larsson is a top-4 D IMO already, and this year will be huge for determining whether he really can hit that top-pair, or even franchise D mark. Below him we've got Merrill, Urbom, Gelinas, Severson, as above-average prospects and Burlon, Scarlett, Helgeson and Santini as solid prospects with a chance at the big show.

Basically, if you count Greene, Fayne and Larsson as all already capable top-4 guys, then we only need two of the prospects to make it in any big sense to have a very solid D-corps. If Larsson and one of Merrill, Urbom or Severson really excel, we've got one of the best D-corps in the league.

At one point during the lockout shortened 1995 season, I was afraid Marty would possibly be the next Sean Burke. Having an awesome conference finals playoff run in their rookie years and being hyped and then plummeting.

A pretty underwhelming regular season before having a huge 95 playoffs. Possibly just a sophomore slump. He also revealed after the Rangers game in 11-12 that he shut them out with an injured ankle the last period of the game, that he had suffered an injury to his leg/ankle in training camp in 95 and it was taped up during games for most of that season.

I also thought Scott Pellerin (Patty's linemate in Albany) would be a regular 25 goal scorer for us. He wound up being nothing really, but he did have one 20 goal season in St Louis, as well as 3 seasons where he was a couple over or under 40 points.

Not much different from what I said. I said Andy Greene isnt the "building-block" you create an NHL team around (I seriously cant believe I have to actually type that), and I figured he'd be a 5/6 on maybe 9 or 10 teams or so (yes, including the Rangers).

Actually, I never said that, but I'm getting more and more used to be taken intentionally out of context on this board, especially by you. Such it is with talking with teenagers I suppose.

you essentially did, yes. you said something like "Gillis thought Garrison was worth paying $6.5 million for (or whatever) so therefore hes better than Greene."

and I am 27 years old, but thank you for flattering me. you probably do well with the ladies!

I legitimately thought that Hot Rod Pelley was going to be our 4th line center for years. Still am a fan of Rod, but boy, was I way off there.

Maybe because I was younger and just had a fascination for his name, but I really wanted and hoped Brad Bombardir would make it.

i was on the david hale hype train back right after the lockout, looking back i have no idea why.

The sky is blue.

There, now you can go say the sky is "red" just because I said it. You're welcome.

please explain this post:

Garrison is slated to make $6.5 Million next year.

But sure, your hockey valuation is much better than GM Mike Gillis.

REALLY?

Is this board REALLY having this debate?

It's honestly necessary to debate that in some ulterior universe Andy Greene is better than Jason Garrison?

I was defending that Garrison is obviously evaluated as a very good player and not merely a journeyman specialist for a GM to pay him so much. Obviously I wasn't saying you can simply look at who makes more money to see who is a better player (which I also already said).

That said, all things being equal, salary is typically a fair indicator of a player's general worth (which is a Captain Obvious statement).

But of course, you already know this and are just being argumentative for the sake of being argumentative.

And yes, in this case, Andy Greene ($3M cap hit) isnt as good of a player as Jason Garrison ($4.6M cap hit), and in this case their relative salaries properly reflect that.

Ideally, Greene is a #3 or #4 defenseman.

He's done a solid job for us the past few seasons but he should not be a 1st pairing dman.

can you name 60 DMen in the league better?

if not (I don't think you can), he is a 1st pairing DMan.

This is the absolute stupidest game that is played on these message boards...

Instigator 1. "Name Him"

Dupe 1. [Names Player]

Instigator 2. "LOL, most ridiculous thing I've ever heard"

Dupe 2. "Yes he's better look at his points per game"

Round and Round and Round we go.

Nah it's over, I already won. My 60 defensemen were unequivocally and unquestionably better than Andy Greene.

I remember when we used to have the same exact arguments on this very site about Paul Martin and Brian Rafalski before that

I believe Steve Bernier should be a 3rd-line player, rather than 4th.

If you disagree, that's perfectly fine, but I demand to see your list of 270 NHL forwards who are better.

Steve Bernier was better than Kovalchuk.

oh here we go!..... martin and rafalski in the same breath is an insult to raf.

i may not have the best defence for greene over martin but ill take andy any day. just my preference.

i hated charmin with passion.

Charmin? Please telling me you are referring to Rafalski? Because behind the net and along the boards I'm not sure the devils have iced a softer player in the last 20 or so years...

Talk about benefiting playing with great players, here is Rafalski's career in a nutshell... Stevens made him look decent, Niedermayer made him look decent, Martin exposed his weakness a bit, Lidstrom made him look decent....

If Johnny Oduya had those partners for his entire career people would think he was good too.
