I wish this whole team was rookies because it wouldn't bother me at all. There is not a single veteran on the team i would keep. Just completely terrible leadership by veterans that should be ashamed. We need to trade Jvr too. That guy has no passion whatsoever. All he can do is jam in garbage goals and play one way hockey and brings ZERO leadership.

Babcocks is a tool the way he is running this **** too. These lineups babs is so adamant about are ill-conceived and torturous too. He doesn't look like all the super coach hype to me right about now. Bozak is a loser and just so there is no Kadri arguement, kadri sucks too. The veterans on this team blow.

ANOTHER GREAT GAME BY MATTHEWS AND NYLANDER.

MARNER HAD I COUNTED AT LEAST FOUR TIMES HE COULD HAVE ALMOST SCORED.

WHO CARES ABOUT THE LOSS. OUR CORE ARE PLAYING WELL.

WOOO GO LEAFS go.

You know that counts for literally nothing in professional sports right?

Look at the bright side. We've only lost one game in regulation. Sigh.

The lone game that we defended well in the 3rd period was on home ice.

How does Babcock not call a TO after the 3rd goal?
Bozak, Polak, Hunwick... quite the shutdown group.

He could have, but would have given away a coaches challenge.

I know that the one he called was grasping for nothing. A time out wouldn't have done much for the team. They were being pressed by some of the best in the NHL.

a team rebuilding that most would want to be 0-5 is 1-1-3 and battling Chicago IN Chicago. I'll take it. Would I like wins? yes. but it could be worse

Maybe someone out for griffith next game holland or Marner or brown. I would add nylander and Matthew but the are scoring and we need that

Marner had an excellent chance to score a goal which would have made it 5-2 but instead passed it off and then he could have cleared the puck just before the tying goal. He will learn.

They were 17-1-4 when leading after 2 periods last year.

There's a big difference. That team was full of veterans who knew what to do on the defensive side of the puck. They knew how to win. Where to be in the defensive end. The little things.

We've replaced them all with superior offensive players, but ones that don't know what the veterans did. They don't know how to win at the NHL level yet. Key word being yet. It will get better.

edit: Think about this too. We only had 22 leads out of 82 possible games in the 3rd. We're already at 4 3rd period leads? That's a really good sign.

This team is beautiful, exciting and incredibly disheartening at the same time. We actually looked like we had learned our lesson, pushing them and not letting them have anything in most of the third. And then we just stopped, again.

They'll learn. Eventually. And when they do, it'll be a beautiful time.

Andersen needs to be better. He's not playing his game, he doesn't look at all like he usually does.

Gardiner needs to be better. I talk about judging defense by what they do in the large mass of events, not just the ones that are standouts. But that works when there's one or two bad plays in a game, Gardiner had like five or six this game.

Hunwick looks like half the player he was last year, and in ways that annoy me. I'd be fine with him, as the character and leadership guy, if he was struggling due to being overwhelmed physically or by skill. That's not the worst problem. He's just playing a badly structured game. Example, the Panik goal. When Keith takes the shot, Hunwick is on the outside of his man turned towards the board. What on earth is he doing there? Defending the linesman?

Kids are alright, so was John van Bozdiek.

I think I'll probably stay off the boards for a while. I have a feeling that people will be freaking out left and right, and I'm not sure I can stand it.

I completely agree with your assessment. We will learn from these 3rd period gaffes. Every game is exciting and the kids are playing well, which to be honest was what I was hoping for this year, given playoffs are a longshot.

The only "pain" Babcock apparently was referring to was having to listen to a bunch of losers repeat his line after every loss.

You don't lose games like tonight regularly, not even last place teams lose games like this regularly. It's something else, either goal tending, bad personnel choices, or something in between but something is very wrong when you throw away 4 of 5 games regardless of how you are expected to finish.

No they don't, but you don't usually have a team with this many rookies at one time either.

And we haven't lost by more than 1 goal. It's not like it's 6-1 every game. We've been in every one with average D.

Call Winnipeg and see what they want for Trouba. If you can get him without trading one of the big 3 and Rielly. Than go for it. Gardiner and Top 3 protected 1st RD pick get it done?

Are people really upset? Are people THAT short-sited?

What we have shown in the first FIVE games this year is VERY promising. We are giving ourselves a chance to win every game, and thats the best you can ask out of this young group. They'll learn how to close out games and play better at all ends of the rink... just give it time.

Also, I think people seem to think that all breakdowns in the defensive end of the rink are Andersens fault.... well... there ARE 5 other players that play in front of him...

If you don't get upset with losses, I don't know what to tell you. I was upset with losses even when we tanked. It sucked to lose but I understood why we lost...we didn't have talent on the team and it was a team built to tank.

This year, I don't expect the playoffs but I do expect this team to close out games that they have a lead in...so far we have 1/5. Lots of teams don't lose more than 2-3 games a season leading after 2.

Rookies are good, we have no vets.

It's all a part of the learning process yet it seems like they are learning nothing as they rack up the blown leads.

I don't really care about the loss, but I just don't want all these late game breakdowns damaging our young core's psyche

Whether it happens in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd period, the defense simply isn't good enough

Good enough to compete for a playoff spot? Maybe not. Good enough to not blow 4 of 5 3rd period leads? Yeah, most AHL defenses could handle that
