I'd encourage Preds fans to watch the head to head shifts of Demidov vs Surin in those games. That's two ultimate competitors who love to battle. They went back and forth at each other in a lot of shifts.
That really overstates his defensive shortcomings. He has some details to pick up but if anything he could become a great defensive forward in the NHL with his hard forecheck / backcheck, has great defensive reads, and can battle anybody.
I also had him #15.
I don't think his physicality is exaggerated, he loves to go over the edge with hits. But people should talk more about how good he is in puck battles.

Looked really really good today. Most physical player on the ice, confident with the puck, 1 g 2a and one of those assists was probably also his goal. Very impressive

Surin had his first preseason game yesterday, when Lokomotiv won 4-1 over Kunlun.
Surin played as the 2LW and had two primary assists in the game. Certainly encouraging given his spot on the roster in the KHL is all but guaranteed. If he gets the spot, he will most likely start out as a winger.

It is pretty rare for an 18 year old to stick with the KHL team. Last year only 12 players played 30 or more KHL games and were 18 or younger. 39 played atleast 1 game. Out of 800+ KHL players. I hope he can stick. He plays an heavy game and has a good frame so he should be able to hang.

His teammate Daniil But (12th OA in 2023) played 55 games in the KHL last season even though putting up "just" 1.00 PPG in the MHL a year before. Surin was 1.24 PPG in the MHL in his DY.
I do agree, though, it's not highly likely but certainly possible.
I hope he does make the KHL and he tears it up. I think his attitude will help carry him. We will see though. Statistically, it isnt likely but i think he has a decent shot

If that's his thought process and he doesn't become worried about the money he's heading in the right direction. Seems to be some guys now want the money before they do anything, when generally the best players just play the game, they know the money will come.
He is getting tips from Radulov as well. Hopefully, Radulov has matured enough since his first and second times here that he is giving solid advice.
