Was there anything new in the Lebrun article for those that have the Athletic sub?

-ghoste

All points from Zito's mouth.
-Q decides lineup
-strong possibility Yandle isn't in opening lineup
-Zito said they gave Yandle heads up about possible scratching early in camp, told him the direction they're headed

-difficult decision when Ironman streak was brought up, they respect it and don't take it lightly but they have responsibility to put best team on the ice, sometimes forced to make tough decisions
-has not asked Yandle to waive NMC

Yandles agent:
-doesnt have anything to do with performance
-this is GM putting pressure for Yandle to waive NMC.

I mean it's pretty damning when the GM says he is looking for accountability, effort and determination to win, and then in the same breath says Yandle might be scratched for the opener. Writing is on the wall imo.

Also, to be fair to Yands, there was a time in his career where he use to throw a mean hip check. Doesn't even do that anymore.

EDIT: There was also this one I'm sure we all remember:

It’s funny how Brian Campbell was so highly regarded for being basically the same player Yandle is but Yandle is universally hated.

Campbell was overall a better player. Top pairing. Yandle isn't. And Campbell was hated by quite a few. Especially in his last season. Pretty ridiculous considering he is up there as one of the best Panthers defensemen of all time. I also think the backlash against Yandle is way overblown as well. But a lot of people are jumping on the Yandle hate train. I hope he goes to Tampa and wins the cup and conn smythe.

I looked for Keith Yandle hit on YouTube, but only videos of him getting hit with the puck in the face :toothlesscame up. I did find this video though:

I vividly recall when he took Pirri out, and this whole board wanted Gudbranson to beat him up. But yes, he is not known for his massive hits. Doesn't mean he has never hit someone before.

I realized that. I just couldn't find any video evidence of him throwing a hit.

I also think it's funny how he kind of runs away from the fight.

I challenge you to find even one time he hit someone in his Panthers career.

Why?

Cold Cat posted saying he couldn't find any youtube videos of him making a hit.

I stated he has hit someone before, and gave him hitting Pirri as an example. As that is the one that I recall most vividly. I also said he is not known for his massive hits. Or indeed really hitting anyone at all. Doesn't mean he has never hit someone.

If Yandle was making significantly less than 6.5, he would be fine as a 3rd pair power play specialist.

Unfortunately, being a power play specialist isnt enough to help you win these days. You need someone that can play 5 v 5

He’s not a bad add. I don’t know when the narrative around here became “Yandle sucks”, because he doesn’t.

He is what he is, an aging offensive dman who declined significantly in the second half last year, useful on the powerplay, is a net negative in the defensive zone, and the softest player to play against in the league. So yeah...he kinda sucks.

edit: forgot to mention he gets paid over $6M a year and has a NMC so would need to be protected in next year's expansion draft. not sure how that's not a "bad add" for most teams unless we retain or give up some other assets. If Zito can do it without either...I will consider him GM trade god

Why? Because Yandle isn’t worth what he’s paid and because many are challenging the notion that he isn’t all that bad, give him a chance.

He is bad, and a big part of the reason he is bad is because he stays away from physical play, which is a cornerstone of hockey.

Doesn't answer my question why I have to look for Yandle making hits in a Panthers jersey.

Everyone knows, including people who like Yandle, he isn't a physical defenseman. He never has been, and never will be. Me rating Yandle as a decent hockey player has nothing to do with how many hits he makes per game.

Cold Cat posted a video and noted he couldn't find a video of Yandle making a hit. I responded saying I do recall him making a hit on Pirri. And I even stated he is not someone who is know for making massive hits. Again, everyone knows this.

He is an offensive defenseman who scores a lot of points and is incredibly beneficially in the offensive zone. That imo, makes him a decent hockey player. Brian Campbell was also a player who didn't hit that much. But he was terrific player. Better than Yandle. Everytime someone was his partner in defense, he elevated their play. In other words, you don't have to make big hits to be a good player. You don't think Yandle is a good player. That's fine. I doubt me finding a couple of videos of him making a hit in a Panthers jersey is going to change your mind. I do think he is still a decent player, and the backlash is overblown.

If only you were the GM of an NHL franchise, I would marry you for thinking Yandle is useful... ;)

Wasn't the 52-Bomber Campbell's defense partner when he was in Florida? I don't think Garrison was ever the same when he left Florida. He played like an All-Star that one season. I think he touched 20 goals? * edit it was only 16 goals.
