He's a very useful player but $14 million in contract for him does seem hefty.

I would assume he gets a commensurate bump in usage with that money - he was really strictly a 4th line type player for Colorado but he did play 15-16 minutes a night in Nashville...and if that is the case, the AAV looks less unsightly.

You have to live with the fact that he's not there for offense so of course this will look bad if you are just showing AAV next to "Points". He's also not unskilled though, he's got decent hands and should really be more of a consistent 15-20 goal guy IMO.

Damn, wanted him back but 3.5 is too much. Cs are a premium though and physical ones are even more of a unicorn.

Seems expensive, but he should be utilized better in Minnesota than he was with the Avs.

Guess I see why Jeannot still costed a 2nd+ if this was the alternative.

The guy averages 14+ minutes p/g. He isn't a 8-10 minute 4th liner, like some MN was trotting out at the end of the year. As the cap goes up, and MN's cap penalties go away, this will seem like a moderate contract. Size and hitting is a skill, and you have to pay for it.

Please, no NMC's or NTC's!
This deal feels similar to the Beck Malenstyn trade where everyone was shocked by the return. Seems like the NHL is really starting to value these tough defensive specialists who can handle 14 minutes a night of tough deployments and PK duty, and how they let you shelter the other lines by soaking up all the DZ shifts.

The fact that Trenin had no acquisition cost also factors in his price. He cost the Av's a 3rd for a couple of months.

I like that he is still in his 20's for most of this contract, and hopefully won't break down like some others that guerin has signed. MN is lacking hefty players in their prospect pool, so they have to go out and buy them.

Couldn't even leave the division?!?!?
too much for the Avs for sure and I don't think even if they could have afforded that he was a good enough fit to pay that

A rossi trade would make sense with Trenin adding some center depth to cover.
