Yakov Trenin breaks Derek Forbort's orbital bone while prone

Forbort threw two punches he shouldn’t have, and Trenton threw one he shouldn’t have

Neither worth a suspension in my view
Even as a Canucks fan i agree with this. Fighting is already a penalty. So now there's degrees of fighting?

Sure it goes against the code to punch a guy when he's down, but I'm pretty sure the rule book doesn't seperate 'fighting' from 'fighting once a player has fallen to the ground.'

Dirty but not the dirtiest punch I've ever seen. That probably goes to Probert on Maguire. Chara's jaw breaking sucker punch on Ivanans is up there too.
Yeah, Chara on Ivanans, the linesmen were both in there, Ivanans basically stopped after he and Chara hit the deck, it was a total cheap shot.

This is asinine. The rule book obviously has rules for fighting. Can players pull hair? Poke eyes? Choke?

None of those things you listed fall under the classic definition of fighting in the nhl.

Definition of a fight:
A fight is defined as at least one player punching or attempting to punch an opponent repeatedly, or two players wrestling in a way that makes it difficult for linesmen to intervene.

It doesn't say anything about standing, sitting, falling, etc. But it explicitly states repeatedly punching, which is what Trenin ultimately did.

We've seen plenty of more heated fights where players keep chucking them even when down. Unfortunate injury but it's always a risk during a scrap

There is a reason why refs tell combat sport athletes to protect themselves at all times

I liked Forbort as a Bruin and hope he's okay, but this doesn't seem as egregious as the title makes it seem. It's just the last punch thrown in a fight as both guys are falling. It's not like he was pinned down by the lineman and he got suckered.

Like it was stated above, if the league wants to have fighting, they can't get mad when someone gets hurt from it.

Edit: The full speed replay has me questioning it, it does seem like a late and undefendable punch from that speed. A rare instance where slow mo made it look less bad.

Some of you people really have no idea about the real world, and just shout from some morally righteous place.

In real time, you could see, Forbort was throwing punches as Trenin was off balance and falling down on all fours. In a matter of a second, less then, he on instinct, defends himself punching the very guy trying to do the EXACT same thing to him less then a second ago.

Unfortunate injury for Forbort, he's a tough guy, and will be just fine. The consequences of his own actions.

The dirtiest thing ever seen in the game? Rick Tocchet "agrees" Rick Tocchet did some insanely dirty shit in his time hitting vulnerable folks.

Get off your high horse.

Real world actions have real world consequences.

...dirty move...Jebus only knows what Parros'll do, though...might be 5, might be a Rempe, might be a fine... :dunno:

Since you brought Rempe up. It's interesting that he got 8 games for a hit on Heiskanen who missed a shift or two and wasn't injured and here is Trenin breaking Forbort's orbital bone and Parros decides that's okay.

I know Parros is trying to send Rempe a message but there are others who he can message too. When it comes to his judgements there really is no rhyme or reason......and it's been that way ever since DPS came into existence.
